EMINEM - OLD TIME SAKE - RELAPSE ALBUM REVIEW

EMINEM - OLD TIME SAKE - RELAPSE ALBUM REVIEW

Comments

I'm wondering if your fan of horror movies and familiar with Hitchcock movies? I asked that because I see the theme very clearly through MTBMB

Toni-Ann

TES is the album that got me hooked so it'll always be my top album and then of course MMLP. Relapse used to be at my bottom but over the years it has moved up my list. I now love MTBMB a/b so it might have moved up to my #3!

Toni-Ann

Not MGK 😭 I didn't want to sound like him. Normally when I listen to Em I need to focus more, English is not my first language if you add to it constant yelling I am done, migraine till I go to sleep. I think 'Won't Back Down' is the worst offender I can't listen to it 😂. The best/ top album objectively will be MMLP, or TES depends on the day you ask me, probably I am leaning more towards MMLP tho. The fav is Relapse, i know it's not his top album however I love it more than other . I mean I listen to Relapse album as a whole the most but my top 10 songs are from MMLP, TES and Encore . What's your top album?

cathy

Yes there's a lot of yelling with his flow on that album hence MGK's reference... obviously suggesting Recovery was the last album he listened to..lol What's your top album?

Toni-Ann

Recovery was good almost no skips however I can't listen to it at once cause the flow gives me headache. I wish he wouldn't yell at every single song but concept is great. For me Relapse theme is clear, not like his last album tho. Lyrically/bars yeah MTBMB is better but overall when I listen to it as a whole I don't feel the theme, when comes to Relapse even with the tracks where Em only flex rhyming skills you got that dark/ serial killer vibe .

cathy

Relapse was my least favorite album at that time so my knowledge of the lyrics isn't as in depth as other albums

Toni-Ann

And thanks for your feedback cuz you did offer the interconnection between the abuse leading to the serial killer a bit more vivid for me

Toni-Ann

Yes you're right, I didn't mean to imply all songs, should have said not as many. I agree the tracks around his childhood abuse and serial killer themes are there. Just overall the album isn't as layered as others, Recovery has a more concentrated concept an interconnecting themes running throughout the album. Imo

Toni-Ann

Toni-Ann I don't agree this album have a lot concept tracks however some songs like this one are little bit out of place. Album have serial killer concept - starting with songs about traumatic childhood which lead Em to becoming 'serial killer' at the same time we have drug addic concept too My Mom/Hello/Must be a Ganjia/ Deja Vu/ Beautiful/ My Darling if you listen to those songs in the order you get the addiction story, mom introducing him to drugs, partying, depression, overdosing, trying to get clean and end up relapsing.

cathy

You're not tripping with the pronunciations of words and rhyming Eminem said himself bending words to rhyme was what he needed to do to make Relapse so it's full of accents. The accents allow him to maneuver the words to his liking as his creative process wasn't fully recovered yet. There's not concept tracks cuz this is the album he had to learn how to rap again. Literally since he did lose his fine motor skills

Toni-Ann

what's the creative process behind making a song like "Hits From The Bong"? Sometimes it's just fun to make a song about chilling and smoking weed!

Mister Lou

The difference between this em and recovery which came out the next year is crazy. Like a whole different rapper

Mike

Em wrote Dre’s verse in this one and you can hear it

Tom Zoeter

One of my favourites on the album.
