2025-08-14 06:27:09 +0000 UTCthe actors playing the hobbits were close to their characters' ages in the books, though there were some minor discrepancies. Elijah Wood, who played Frodo, was 18 when the movie was filmed. The character Frodo was actually 33 at the start of the quest. Dominic Monaghan, who played Merry, was 24 when the movie came out. His character was 37 by the time of the War of the Ring. Billy Boyd, who played Pippin, was 23 when the movie was released. His character was 29 during the War of the Ring. Finally, Sean Astin, who played Sam, was 30. Sam's character was 39 at the time of the War of the Ring> In the book, Frodo is 33 during Bilbo's birthday party. He actually doesn't leave with Gandalf on his quest many years later when Gandalf finds the truth about the ring. Frodo is 50 when he leaves the Shire.

Or straight up missing the exposition on Boromir's motives that are explicitly shown in Two Towers extended. In Return of the King theatrical, you straight up miss the end story of some side characters. And if this is all peak cinema, it's not like the extra is filler.

Its not about being a superfan, there are a couple short scenes that we could do without but the good scenes way more than make up for that. There is a CRUCIAL scene in the extended that even the director regretted cutting. Its already a long movie you might as well watch peter jackson's version. split it in two if you have to lol
