To me Elvis is just all just a fabrication with no real musical substance or intention. There's not a single thing about Elvis Presley that isn't fake, including his hair color lol.

For really similar reasons....the global impact of Michael was insane and he ruled supreme for multiple consecutive decades. When you think of the artistic impact he had with eras like Thriller, and Bad, I think his impact has more of a staying power than Elvis' did. The 80s to present day is a gap of 40 years, the same as from the 50s to the 90s. Elvis was uber successful at his peak and certainly a phenomenon, no doubt, but ultimately very much of his time. His personal status was severe, and I think that (along with the whole cultural movement away from his style of sound) meant he deteriorated pretty alarmingly. And TBH, I think it's worth mentioning, in terms of artistry, Elvis was also a notorious thief too, unfortunately. Regardless of that, and other issues, those 3 (The Beatles, MJ, Elvis) simply have to be considered the 'Big 3' I think.

Not only in terms of raw manic success (they're sales continue to this day btw - the Beatles were the best selling artists of the the 20th century and are the SECOND best selling artists of the 21st century, behind Eminem!) but more importantly they were innovators. The Beatles CHANGED the landscape of music....literally INVENTED new sounds, recording methods and techniques, and carved out an entirely new culture. Their impact didn't just span the world, it spanned across genres too. Literally no other artist even has a hope of comparing to what they achieved...

His stage presence and energy was really in his younger days, and he went downhill pretty rapidly (as far as I know). But it's funny how you mentioned MJ right as I was thinking about a particular comparison between the two.....MJ was HUNTED and HOUNDED by media on speculation of paedophilia and those accusations continue to haunt his legacy to this day.....but I never ever hear about Elvis, the literal KNOWN paedophile, literally repeatedly known to have prayed on 14yr olds as a full grown as man...his wife even detailed how he raped her and multiple women detailed abuse they suffered at his hand, including BEING SHOT AT WHILE THEY SLEPT. He was a creep, and a bastard. And he gets away with far too much - this man's legacy should be in TATTERS and burnt to a crisp....yet it's not, and no one talks about it...

The assassinations happened right during the civil rights movement. He was truly upset about it, I believe they were friendly. Not to mention MLK was shot in Memphis (Elvis's hometown). Elvis wanted to send a message against the hate in the way he could. If you'd left it a second you would've seen him retreat and seem exhausted. That's why his voice wasn't as smooth, he was fighting his emotion. Not that it has to change your opinion. Just thought you'd like a little backstory. He wasn't necessarily the greatest singer but at the time he was probably really bridging the gap between cultures, opinions and outdated traditions

Elvis was 'shocking' because of the passion he seemed too let ooze through his performances. Are there better voices? Yes, but at the time no one was singing like him or expressing themselves like him. Plus his personality was charismatic.

He was, and likely is, considered one of the most beautiful men in music history appearance and voice. Stevie finding something about his story and fans, Elvis changed the world in many ways. The 50's was different times for middle class white people and this man was their world. SO much change came from this man's music history and impact.

Eminem, as a white guy, even knows this and his impact. I remember catching this back on the TES being impressed as a new listener: "Though I'm not the first king of controversy I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley To do black music so selfishly And use it to get myself wealthy (hey) There's a concept that works Twenty million other white rappers emerged But no matter how many fish in the sea It'll be so empty without me" and "Little hellions kids feeling rebellious Embarrassed, their parents still listen to Elvis" All facts! Elvis is the 'king of rock and roll" only cuz he's the first do it, for white people. Often Elvis was only televised from the waist up because his hip gyrating on stage was considered inappropriate, he was too sexy for TV in the 50s🤣. His fanbase was INSANE in old footage! BUT to me '70s rock was, and is, the best genre of Rock

He was the shock artist of his time I think. There was also the whole bit about Elvis stealing his music style or whatever from Black people. You will hear about this in some hip-hop songs like Eminem's "Without Me".
