Wow! Im a bit shocked by that reaction! To me, this is their second best song, after For Whom the Bell Tolls, and one of my top 5 favorite rock/metal songs. I think the guitar playing in this is transcendent, and it brings so much emotion to the dark story that James is telling.

2022-07-13 17:56:02 +0000 UTCSo the deal with this song is they wrote it during a tour, someone stole all their band equipment and it made them really depressed at the time. They wrote fade to black as a way to relate with someone who is really depressed, even to the point of being suicidal. Anyways they put it on their “ride the lightning” album and it’s mostly appreciated for the guitar solos and riffs. As a guitar player that’s why it’s my top 5 favorite of theirs
