3:30:25 Speaking of Michael Corleone: "Not that he's bad - but he IS bad!" Say again?

DJ Marquis Marc Rambeau du Tacoma

P.S. I just wanted to say I love that you both take notes and it’s not distracting at all. It shows how invested you are in these films and it’s refreshing to see. Please keep doing it and keep up the great work!

Ok, here are my thoughts: I see a parallel here between “Star Wars”. George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola are friends and Lucas actually directed the newspaper montage from the first “Godfather”. Michael is like Anakin Skywalker. Starts out good. The prodigal son. He is a hero who has many people seeing big things for him in the future. Loses a parent and a wife. Is betrayed by a brother. He is slowly consumed with power and the good man that he once was is destroyed. I’m always amazed by John Cazale who played Fredo. An incredible talent and one of the best actors who had a tragically short life and career. He did 5 films: both “Godfathers”, “The Conversation”, “Dog Day Afternoon”, and “The Deer Hunter”. All of them nominated for Best Picture. One of the things that bothered me and it bothered my ex-girlfriend, too, was why didn’t we ever hear what happened to Apollonia’s killers? If you watch “The Godfather Saga”, you will find out who ordered the hit and what happens to the man who ordered it, Fabrizio. It’s fascinating stuff. Most parents will tell you they don’t have a favorite child. Some of them are lying. 😉 Sonny was the oldest and he was very protective of his family, but a hothead and full of himself. Fredo was the middle child who was often sick as a baby. He’s like that uncle who never gets married or has any kids who’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but has a good heart. Fredo was meek and weak. Can you imagine him staring down Solozzo and McCluskey? “Now, you guys better stop messing with my pop!” Michael was the baby after Connie the only daughter and he was the perfect combination of strength and intelligence yet honest and faithful. Sonny and Fredo couldn’t keep their dicks in their pants. Michael never cheated. Yes, he did fall for Apollonia, but can you blame him? LOL And, he did marry her and I believe he truly was in love with her. I also have another theory and this is just pure speculation, but I believe Apollonia was pregnant with their child. This is one of many reasons why I think Michael reacted the way he did when Kay dropped the bombshell about her “miscarriage”. Michael was I believe what most women and men want in a partner. He was confident, not cocky. He was loving, but faithful. He was his father’s son, but over time he transformed into this unrecognizable monster. Without Vito there to guide him, he was lost. I can only imagine how disappointed Vito would have been. Michael told Kay in the first film, “That’s my family, Kay. That’s not me”. Yet he becomes the head of the family. He was smarter than Sonny, stronger than Fredo, but one quote always comes back to me: “It’s not personal, Sonny. It was strictly business”. Michael took everything personally. If someone wronged him, they had to pay for it with their life. As he says to Tom, “I don’t feel I have to wipe out everybody, Tom. Just my enemies. That’s all”. Contrast that to Vito. “Your father did business with Hyman Roth. Your father respected Hyman Roth, but your father never trusted Hyman Roth”. Yet Roth was still alive. It’s a fascinating contrast of two powerful men. A phenomenal sequel and an amazing reaction and review from both of you. 👍👍

Always thought that Tessio and Clemenza got a raw deal. Michael took care of family business, but he also left a mess they had to deal with when he moved to Nevada. The aftermath in N.Y. is part of this story and why they're possible suspects for Michael's assassination attempt.
