About polls

So I’ve made a post two days ago about improving my tiers rewards—I’ve read all the comments, by the way, I’m just really busy, so I couldn’t really answer everyone—and the most suggested reward by far is poll privileges. I won’t lie, I have quite a few reservations with the idea of polls determining contents in the game. I’ve voiced often that I wouldn’t let anyone decide what I write, so anything story related would probably be off the table. There are also a few technical issues that come with making polls which are particular to my situation. Still, if people are fine with very occasional polls that are more on the esthetical side, then I don’t mind at least trying.

When it comes to the story

As I said, anything that involves influencing the story is a big no-no for me. But you could give an argument that certain things—like the location of certain events, for example—don’t change the story much, and I can agree with that. But one thing that needs to be understood is that a larger part of the story is already written—that’s one of the multiple reasons why I’m able to keep releasing updates every month. So if I started making polls for that kind of content, it would be for part of the story that is farther away in the future, and that would probably be a lot less engaging in that sense.

A few technicalities

One of the details I don’t mind is things such as which outfit Laura would wear during a sex scene (or just for corruption purposes). That you guys decide on that type of detail—unless I have something specifically planned—doesn’t really bother me. The thing is, I don’t have dedicated artists per se. I can’t really ask one of my artists to draw multiple sketches, wait a few days for the poll to end and then make him draw the final product. They need to make a living, and it would be pretty hard to set up a working space where they have to sketch multiple different scenes, for example, so they can keep getting paid while waiting for the result of a poll. Maybe that kind of set-up could work if the poll lasts only 24 hours, but then some people wouldn’t have the time to enjoy their privilege. Another thing, the artist who drew the sprite of APBLU is often busy, so I can’t just ask him for one single outfit at any given time.

So yeah, my biggest concern is that I might end up only being able to make that kind of poll every two months, and maybe those polls would be underwhelming. Maybe I’m worrying for nothing and I could find more original ideas to keep you guys involved, I just don’t want to promote a feature that ends up barely existing.

If you guys still believe that adding poll privileges as a reward is worth it even while taking all of those issues into consideration, then of course I don’t mind trying. As long as people keep their expectations in check, then I’m open to try lots of different things.

Yes. In Aya's path (in Laura's route) and Aya's route, there will be threesome scenes.

Will Luca get Laura and Aya at the same time ?

I honestly don't think you need any polls are anything similar in terms of story content. Keeping the updates and art flowing smoothly it already a lot of work and I don't really think you need you need more to distract from those. In terms of piracy, I'll just say the truth on that. I only found your game because of piracy when I was looking for more anime hentai style NTR/Corruption/Rape visual novels to play. I had played your TheEdgeOf game and felt that the story was decent. However, I felt that it cut off to soon on Beth's corrupted perspective too soon (I felt that we should have had her perspective, and full sex scene art, for the whole game instead of cutting off before she transitioned in the full long blond haired slut outfit). Thus, I never looked further into your work until the A Promise Best Left Unkept popped up one day on one of the pirate sites. I tried it out, was hooked, and said to myself that I better support this as it was quite good. So long story short, yeah I think piracy is a double edged sword for you. However, overall I think it likely ends up ok as you are in active development of the game. If it was completed then yeah it would just be lost sales. But since there's the promise of more of the game to come, then that makes it an enticing prospect to potential backers. It also helps that the art gets better with the more backers that support the project. Well that 's my 2 cents for the little it's worth.

Definitely keep any polls you decide to have compatible with your way of work. Let story beats and directions be true to your vision, unless you want to gauge interest in future project/route themes or something like that. When it comes to polls, they are always neat, but they have their own limitations. I feel people who care about them will be happy with however small scale or occasional they will be. Polls and their topic are a chance for people to interact with the project and the other followers; it provides a chance to have a discussion about whatever is the topic. Some people like just talking about your game with all the speculation, peer opinions and wondering it entails. I feel providing more rewards of substance becomes easier with bigger budget. And building a follower base as large some other big creators will take time. You just took this all up as your main employment relatively recently, and needless to say we are not living the best economic times around the world at the moment. Best of luck no matter how you evolve your system from now on.

To be honest I'm glad you're not making polls to change/influence the story. One of the main reasons I'm a patron is because of your storytelling, and compromising your vision isn't something I want. With regards to the polls for drawings... I can see it either way. I care more about ensuring you have enough artwork in the game itself (i.e. the drawings you need for all the scenes you want) and I wouldn't want resources taken away for something else. But I understand if you need polling to up the monthly payments and I would much rather it be for the drawings than the story. Maybe have polling for what part of the game you develop next? I know there are several different areas you have planned and I don't know if there's a required order, but it could be something you can poll yet doesn't change anything about the final state of the completed game.

Honestly since you don’t draw the art your situation is one if a kind. It’s a very complicated situation. I proposed additional scenes for higher tiers but that has its risks too.
