Good Omens Season Two- Thank you so very much for all of your fabulous reactions to Good Omens Season Two, Jay! I absolutely loved watching this new season of a show I really love again with you! This show is so, so fantastic, and both David Tennant and Michael Sheen as the demon Crowley and the angel Aziraphale are incredible! I absolutely love these two main characters throughout this show, and I love everyone else in this show as well. Especially Gabriel (both as Gabriel and as Jim) and Beelzebub.
In regards to there being a season three for Good Omens... I absolutely hope so too! I want more Good Omens so badly!! Especially after such a heartbreaking ending to this season, leaving Crowley heartbroken and alone, and Aziraphale very sad. Season two ends on such a sad note. Plus... Thankfully, we have a season three turned into a movie to look forward to, that will end this series for us so that we will know what will come of our two favorite characters... Crowley and Aziraphale! I'm sad we won't be getting a whole new and final season, because of the trouble surrounding the Neil Gaiman. But at least we have a little more to enjoy.
Every Day- First and foremost... Crowley and Aziraphale are fantastic characters whom I love very much throughout this series! They are, and will always be, what I love most about this show!! Personally... I preferred to see them just as best friends like they are throughout season one. I absolutely love, love, love, their friendship!! And I am not quite as happy to see that for this season, the writers chose to make them a gay couple. Don't get me wrong... I still absolutely love their relationship, and I really love that Crowley declares his love for Aziraphale in the ending of this season's final episode. I think this whole ending between them is absolutely beautiful and fantastic! And maybe the writers always intended for Crowley and Aziraphale to both be gay all along, despite them only being just the best of friends throughout season one. If it was always the plan for them to be in love with one another, then that's great, and just fine with me. However, I am not a fan of shows and movies, when characters are written to be straight originally, only for them to later be written to be gay when there was never any previous establishment of them being such. This happens all the time nowadays. Including in Once Upon a Time, which makes me sad. But that's not important. In my opinion... Crowley and Aziraphale were originally just two guys who were best friends in season one. There was never any indication that they were in fact, gay. Most, if not all, fans of this show liked to see them as gay, because we are all used to seeing at least one gay character in every show or movie nowadays. Even when it makes no sense. And this is because there is so much pressure from everyone to everyone who makes all these shows and movies for us, to include gay characters. And this is very sad to me. Because it's very wrong to force this political agenda on everyone. Now... Like I said, I do not know if Crowley and Aziraphale were always meant to be gay characters, or not. Personally, I would have preferred to see them remain just close friends. After all... What is wrong with two guys just being best friends? Or two girls? Sadly, this seems to be more and more frowned upon today. However, I do like seeing them as a couple as well. Because a romantic relationship between these two really works well. And this whole ending scene between them is absolutely beautiful. I love it!
The whole ending scene is fantastic, thanks to David Tennant and Michael Sheen! This ending leaves us all heartbroken upon seeing Aziraphale break Crowley's heart when he chooses to return to Heaven as the new Supreme Leader over him. And my heart breaks for both of them. Especially for Crowley. I absolutely understand Aziraphale's side, and his longing to remain an angel. He loves Heaven and he has a strong faith. Faith in God and in all that's good. And there is a small part of him that does sadly see Crowley as evil, simply because he is a demon. Even though it's clear that Aziraphale loves Crowley just as much as Crowley loves him. Even if Aziraphale has a harder time admitting it because they are an angel and a demon. I understand Aziraphale's way of thinking and his desire for Crowley to accept the Metatron's offer to make Crowley an angel again. However, I absolutely do not trust the Metatron, or any of the angels in Heaven. After all... Heaven has become corrupted, and they are not pure good like Aziraphale is longing to believe. And yes... What's stopping the other angels from eventually turning against Aziraphale, as they turned against Gabriel this season too?
And Crowley is absolutely heartbroken, because Aziraphale makes it clear that he can't accept him fully in his heart because he is a demon. And while Crowley hates that he fell and has become a demon, he does see Heaven for what it's truly become. And we see this in Crowley's brief conversation with Gabriel in the previous episode, when Crowley becomes very angry with Gabriel, or Jim, as he reminds the archangel about what Gabriel had said to him back in season one's finale just before Gabriel demands that Aziraphale step into the pillar of fire. Gabriel just didn't know that it had actually been Crowley disguised as Aziraphale. Crowley hates Gabriel for threatening Aziraphale and for being so incredibly rude to him when he tells him to shut up, and step into the fire and die. Yes... Crowley sees the corruption in Heaven, that isn't much better than Hell. And he tries to help Aziraphale to see it too. But sadly... Aziraphale just can't.
We see that Crowley isn't really evil. Yes... He is a demon. And he does do bad things because it is what is demanded of him. However, as we've seen throughout all the many flashbacks between Crowley and Aziraphale all throughout history, Crowley also does so much good too. And his evil deeds are weak because his heart isn't in causing pain and suffering. He just tires to hide the good in him and deny that he's done any good deeds. Because I think that a big part of him does sadly believe himself to be evil too. But Crowley has said a few times now that he never meant to fall. That he wasn't always a demon. And he hates Hell as much as he hates Heaven. Crowley winds up falling, because he questions God and Heaven. Because he can't understand why things have happened the way they have, regarding the events in which both Heaven and Hell are directly involved in. Job and his wife losing their children and all their possessions, the great flood that wipes out everyone on Earth except Noah and his family, Adam and Eve being forced to leave the Garden of Eden upon partaking of the forbidden fruit, etc... Crowley doesn't understand how God and Heaven can allow so much pain happen to people in the world. Just like we often question too. Whereas, Aziraphale simply accepts that God and Heaven have a plan that is for the good of humanity, and he goes along with it without question. And sadly... Crowley now believes that Aziraphale will never be able to accept him for who he is. Crowley can't become an angel again, because he doesn't believe in God's mysterious ways or in Heaven's path. He doesn't want to be a part of Heaven or Hell, because he just wants to be happy with Aziraphale. For them to continue living together on Earth, just as they have been since the beginning of time. Where they can be who they are and who they want to be, without the corruptions of Heaven and Hell influencing their lives in any way. So, so heartbreaking. But I love it! I love this finale's ending so much!
Next... As season two reminds us a few times throughout this season, the actress who plays Beelzebub here in season two (Shelley Conn), is a new actress and not the same actress who plays her throughout season one (Anna Maxwell Martin). I don't know if it's because Anna Maxwell Martin just couldn't return, or chose not to, or if it was the writers' decision to change the actresses up. Either way... I really like that they wrote how Beelzebub just felt it was time for a new face. Which gives a creative explanation for why she looks different this season. In my opinion... Shelley Conn plays this character best. I like her more than I liked Anna Maxwell Martin in season one. But I do enjoy both actresses.
Another surprise to me... We actually get to see an actress playing one of the characters in season one, return here in season two, but as a completely new and very different character. In season one... Miranda Richardson plays Madame Tracy, Witchfinder Sergeant Shadwell's neighbor and soon to be girlfriend. However, Miranda Richardson returns in season two as the demon Shax, the main demon always working against Crowley and Aziraphale this season. It's wonderful seeing this actress return for season two, and it makes me wish that more of the actors and their characters from season one returned as well. I would have especially loved to see Anathema Device (Adria Arjona) and her boyfriend Newton Pulsifer (Jack Whitehall) again. I loved their characters. And I love Adria Arjona, and have ever since I first saw her throughout the Star Wars series... Andor, as Bix Caleen.
And then... I quite love Gabriel's and Beelzebub's relationship revealed for us here in season two's final episode.
And lastly... Personally, I love season one a little bit more than I love season two. Partly because of my mixed feelings towards Crowley's and Aziraphale's relationship. But mostly just because I love season one's overall story arcs and storylines a little more than I love season two's story arcs. With the exception of Gabriel as Jim, who is absolutely hilarious and adorable!
Thank you very much once more, Jay!! I am so happy to see that you have truly come to love Good Omens as much as I do!! And I truly love and appreciate all of your insights you have shared with me in your commentaries. Especially here in your reaction for this season's finale. I completely agree with you about everything. Your insights regarding Crowley's and Aziraphale's relationship and their feelings are spot on. I definitely feel the same way. :)
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Heidi
