I second this!!

Bangtan is life

I bawled my eyes out at the end the first time I saw it because I loved these movies and was so invested in them, still get pretty emotional 😢 But after this I kinda wish someone could recommend the Camp Rock movies because I’m curious of what you would think of them 😄

Bangtan is life

um the music being better is such a stretch-

Okay so I just re-watched the 2nd half of your reaction to this one. Still throwing me off with locations being wrong (LOL) but anyways, not the point for this comment. When you spoke about the scene before Gabriella told Troy she's not coming back, the part about her smiling. Her little smile wasn't really a smile smile, it was more of a sad smile as she thinks about what she's about to do (call Troy). Also the "Scream" scene with Troy, he was actually at East High for the whole scene. The Julliard sign was just a sign hanging in the halls of East High reminding everyone that they were going to have guests from Julliard coming to see the show. What I also I love about that scene is he basically was walking through the same areas of the hallway that Gabriella did when she did "When There Was Me and You" in the first movie. I think I actually meant to write these comments in my previous comment but forgot (LOL). Anyways, glad I got to re-watch it again.

CGoerlich

I forgot about lemonade mouth, its also amazing. but I think he should do camp rock next the music its soo good

Yenelly Tejada

I think you should watch camp rock, you will probably like it just as much! the music is better in my opinion

Yenelly Tejada

They are actually not in salt lake Utah I think, HSMTMTS is based on the high school that HSM was filmed which is in salt lake, but the movie is set somewhere else

Yenelly Tejada

Victoria Chinaka

nayely marroquin

Your ranking is the same as mine. In terms of storyline, I liked HSM1 the most, but HSM2 and HSM3 have the better songs in my opinion. HSM3 was great but I agree with your commentary where it feels like some of it has been recycled from the previous movies already. To me, it was focused more on the production and musical aspect but doesn't make it a bad movie either.

Steph

This is my least favorite of the three but Scream is definitely one of the best songs and performances in the trilogy IMO. I also really like all the Troy and Gabriella duets in this one a lot. I’m glad Zac kept doing musicals after this because I love his voice, and he’s like the only main cast member who didn’t put out an album after these movies.

Jared

ommgggg Michael you should react to RENT the movie musical!!! one of my favs

Emma Mellin

The 3rd one is my absolute favourite because everytime I think of disney and childhood I think of that movie. I didn't see it in the cinemas but got the DVD afterwards and watched it over and over again. As for the plot: HSM is the proof that you can have 3 movies with the same plot and they all can be successfull. If you think about it in all the movies Troy has to decide between his future that others planned and what he wants. But I think because in HSM3 the topic is their future and college I think it's more meaningful. :) Anyways as others said Newsies would be my recommendation for another musical! :)

Stefanie

I actually hold the fairly unpopular opinion that this is my least favorite of the three HSM movies, but I think just mostly because it holds the least nostalgia for me as the first two aired in the peak of my disney channel watching so I love them (even though they are incredibly cheesy). Also, excited for more musicals! If you want to add to your list, Newsies is also a great filmed stage musical on Disney+ (the lead, Jeremy Jordan, is insanely talented), as well as the upcoming Dear Evan Hansen movie (which I have some mixed feelings about but will hopefully be good). Speaking of, it would be great to see your reaction to Ben Platt’s music (who plays Evan). His album Sing To Me Instead is so so good, and his second album Reverie is coming out in August!

megan

Yes exactly this!!

Mal

Yessssss!!! Urgh I cry every time I watch this lmao. I remember waiting in live at the cinema for the premier of this movie!! I get you when you say that the story line in this is one maybe not as well developed. But I do think for teens going through this time period of following their dreams and finding themselves at the end of high school its super relevant. I also think that you have to remember that when this one came out the trilogy was already super iconic and quite a few scenes in this movie are just fan fare. Stuff like Ryan and Sharpay's number, the junk yard number and the prom scene are pretty much just stuff we all wanted to see happen and don't exactly give much to the plot. That being said, I still love this one, its just not my fave. Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure is fun but personally I don't think its on the same level as these. Regardless, I'd love to see you watch it! I'm also very pumped for you to watch Hairspray and Greatest Showman!! Hairspray is one of my fave movie musicals and the storyline + the numbers make it awesome!!

Mal

Also can’t wait for you to watch Hairspray and the Greatest Showman (both amazing) . Like a few others I definitely suggest Grease Live and Rent Live — Vanessa Hudgens is in both and absolutely blows it out of the water.

Couple things: I love how this movie’s theme focused most on how seniors feel during senior year — scared, confused, trying to plan out life and make it perfect. It perfectly captured all those feelings for each of the characters (Troy confused at where to go, Gabriella confused as if she should stay instead of going to Berkeley, Chad confused as to why his friend was ditching the dreams that had been planned between them & their families for years) — it really shows just how terrifying it can be to jump into the real world. From the end of the musical to the graduation scene it is 100% guarantee that I’m getting emotional — especially when they all walk up for the title to come down. I do wish they added Kelsey to it but not sure if you realized it is a call back to the cover/picture that is on the dvd or that shows up when choosing the movie online — so it is them recreating the picture from the very first HSM and they are in the exact order. As for how Chad and Coach Bolton acted during the movie, I was never super mad at them (frustrated yes but not mad) only because it’s understandable to question/talk through the decision Troy was making. As much as I love Troy, him not talking to his dad about thinking of other colleges is unrealistic (since they are his parents and will probably be the people paying for his living expenses). I know its hard to talk about that (as seen in literally all of the HSM movies) it is still something super important. I give Chad less leeway though just cause its not as big of a deal as not telling his parents — though I understand having this plan since they were kids and then randomly changing without talking about it would be kind of a blindside. Also the biggest thing that’s unrealistic to me is the fact that his parents were super cool with letting their kid drive his crappy truck from New Mexico to Cali — like my mom would never be okay with that even if I had a nice reliable ride since he was 18 at best. BUT overall it is my favorite movie of the trilogy — for a lot of the reasons you stated but also because I just love how it captured the essence of being 18 and having to figure out super important things that will affect your life for years.

Virginia

Lol @ me getting so confused cause I thought it was in Cali but he kept saying NY 😂

Virginia

Love the reaction but have to disagree with you I think the point of the movie's plot was to be a picture of senior in the simplest terms so everyone can relate to choosing schools based on yourself regardless of others and how sad and hard that can be so I don't see the downside of this movie's plot yes it's not always presented in the best way but it WAS telling a story so... i mean the title is HSM: Senior Year so it really only gonna be about that lol

Sherelle H

I loved that movie! :)

CGoerlich

Ok I'm so glad this is finally up! I know you know I've been waiting for it LOL (cue to my tweet from a week ago). I am slightly disappointed that you weren't a bigger fan of this one but that's ok. We all have our favorites. Yes, I know, shocker that I'm letting that slide. LOL All right here we go with my long comment (are you really surprised?) I can definitely tell you got confused with where the schools were. I know there was already a previous comment letting you know where there are. But yes, I always wondered how he drove his truck from New Mexico to California bc come on, do you not see that truck??? LOL Here's a little background about a couple things in this movie. So the three new characters, Jimmie "The Rocket Man" Zara, Donnie Dion (his best friend 'kid who looks to be in 6th grade), and Tiara Gold were actually supposed to be the next group of Wildcats. Disney planned to do a 4th movie and this was supposed to be like a torch being handed over to them three. But that never happened (for good reasons). I definitely recommend watching Sharpay's movie. I've only ever watched it once but would love to re-watch it with you. Also, "that guy" you mentioned near the end of 'High School Musical' the song is actually one of Kenny Ortega's co-choreographers. He was in every movie which I absolutely love. I'd actually love for you to watch some of the Behind-the-Scenes stuff (btw are you still going to do the Julie And The Phantoms ‘Behind the Band’?). I'll always remember when I went to see this in the theaters, opening night, everyone freaked out during the part when the two boys came out from under the car. That was so cute. I think this one is many people's favorite (mine included) because of the emotions of it knowing it's the last one and the fact that they really were graduating from this franchise. I always get emotional at the end even after watching it over and over again. Now speaking about Vanessa Hudgens' career. So I believe her current boyfriend is from Phoenix so she's now a Suns fan which is why she was invited to sing the National Anthem. Other things she's done: she was on broadway a couple years ago for 'Gigi,' she's also done the Hollywood Bowl for 'Rent,' Grease: Live (which I totally recommend watching because she STOLE the show and was amazing in it because she had to do it the day after her dad died), Rent: Live (I'd recommend watching this, however, it wasn't actually Live and only a dress rehearsal due to one of the actors being injured), and she's done some indie movies and some other stuff as well. She's actually in Lin Manuel Miranda's new movie Tick, Tick, Boom...! which I'm very excited about. I enjoyed your reaction even though I'm still slightly disappointed you didn't enjoy this one as much as the other two. But thanks for doing the movies! Can't wait to see what you do next :)

CGoerlich

i also loved vanessa hudgens in the movie Beastly!!

Elisha Li

was waiting to see your reaction when you finally found our standford is in california not the east cost hahaha

Elisha Li

I think what this movie does is more like capturing a feeling, and not necessarily telling a story. If you let yourself watch it in the eyes of a teenager, fearing the adult life after high school… idk, you said it yourself- it’s sad. And scary and exciting, and there’re so many decisions to make. This movie was a way to process the complexity of saying goodbye to something good and familiar. It wasn’t my favorite either, but it’s the one I felt the need to return to the most.

ShayOhMy

god years later this movie still makes me feel emotional, I finished high school not long after this came out and getting used to not seeing my friends everyday mannn feels like a lifetime ago. Also can’t waittt for hairspray I was obsessed with that movie (still am tbh) so I can’t wait for the reaction!

florence

Can’t wait for Hairspray and The Greatest Showman. Please please please add Grease Live that aired on Fox to your list. Vanessa Hudgens turns in a spectacular performance especially when you consider what was going on in her personal life at the time

KyraB

If ever there was a day when I needed this today was the day. Thank You!

Allie Speed

This movie makes me emotional because where I went to high school we were also the wildcats. At graduation our valedictorian ended his speech with “like Troy Bolton said, once a wildcat always a wildcat”. It made everyone so emotional cause those movies were huge so watching this back is so nostalgic and relatable to the feelings of leaving high school and starting your future. I think my favorite song from this movie is scream for sure! The greatest showman is incredible and I know you will love it. Can’t wait!

Katey

You should watch Sharpays Fabulous Adventure. You won't be disappointed. As for the issue with Troy, people always think you choose where you want to go but some people have a school forced on them. Troy's dad brought him to U of A games since he was a kid, it was probably the only school he really ever focused on thinking he didn't have a choice to pick somewhere else. It's almost like U of A was drilled into his head. So when other schools reached out he didn't really think of it given they were probably all for basketball. When it came to knowing he stood a chance for Juilliard, I don't think he would have picked Juilliard at all but it it made him really think about drama. That's why he picked a school that gave him both. With his dad, you can expect it would be a bit sad when you and your kid talk about one school and last minute you find out they don't want that anymore. With Chad, they have been friends since they were kids, probably always on a team together. It's understandable he may not like the idea of being on different teams. It was just something he needed to get used to. This movie is by far better with cinematography. "Scream" was one of my favorites as it really shows Troy's confusion. As mentioned earlier, he's expected to play basketball at U of A, just look at the second movie. He became a jerk to his friends trying to get that scholarship. Yet his heart isn't in it 100% anymore. Drama has become a huge part of his life thanks to Gabriella.

Kunzite Blossom

you check out sharpy fabulous adventure

Alanna Smith

this movie will forever be my favorite of the 3 because of the soundtrack, sets, and choreo!! (i also think that zac efron looking exceptionally good in this movie probably has something to do with it as well i mean between him in that powder blue tux hip thrusting & the entirety of “scream” my pre-teen heart was in love lol!) it’s evident that they focused more on those aspects than the plot! i still think the plot is overall pretty solid & deals with the issues that high school seniors face with choosing a college, relationships, etc but they definitely had some plot holes/skipped showing moments to have time for all the performances the ending scene always makes me super emotional because i just think of how emotional it was on set for the core group of actors that day because the high school musical franchise changed all of their lives :’) the way they’re all tearing up while staring into the camera makes me cry lol i also really love how ej’s storyline this season of the series mirrors troy’s in the ~figuring out what he wants and going to the college he chooses not the one that his dad chose for him~ department

McKenna DeFranco

Prob my fave moment of the whole series!!

Michael Beveraggi

Omg I was thinking of UConn the whole time thank you so much for this 😭😭

Michael Beveraggi

I’m glad I wasn’t the only person who noticed this I was so confused 😂

Nicolett

With the Greatest Showman you’ll love the song Good Enough

Paige

I always enjoy your reaction! Do you think you could do an album reaction to Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves? One of my absolute favorite albums❤️❤️

Hannah Mclain

Yes do the greatest showman! My kids are literally watching it as I’m watching this reaction 😂

Ashley O

i’m SO excited for you to watch the greatest showman!! it’s up there as one of my all time fave movies & movie soundtracks!! i literally wrote my final paper in my college film class breaking down one of the scenes because the cinematography is stunning as well!!!!!

McKenna DeFranco

why am i so hyped?? As soon as Sixteen started playing, i was cheering in my bed. I LOVE this movie. It's my favorite of the 3. It's one of the first movies i saw in theaters where i was so excited and hyped up and i remember seeing it with my grandma, who adored the series with me as a kid. I was i think 12 when i saw it. So i was the perfect age. Some of my favorite songs and scenes are in it (Now or Never which i always called Sixteen as a kid lol, Boys are Back, Right here Right now, Scream, Can I Have This Dance, A night to remember...) i remember crying as a senior to the high school musical ending version....oof, this is such a good movie to me. Very well done. I remember when Gabirella came out singing TROYYYY the whole crowd was like AHHHHH LOL. It's so cheesy now but we all got hyped for her. I also had a huge crush on Rocket Man....idk why lol. Sadly his actor turned out to be an abusive bf but i loved him in this and Geek Charming until that being exposed...also always had a huge crush on Kelsi so i'm glad she shined more in this movie.

Angie

I’m one of the people that CANNOT WAIT for the greatest showman. Love that movie

T'rel Taylor

Thank you for completing the journey!! I‘m so nostalgic when it comes to the HSM movies, especially the third one, which will always remain my favorite. Honestly, I enjoy the more calm plot because all this figuring out your future was extremely relatable for me at the time it came out and also I was so emotionally invested with all the characters that it just worked for me. And I’m sooo happy you enjoyed Zac‘s amazing performance in the school as much as I did!! Now I seriously CANNOT wait to watch The Greatest Showman with you!! Zac and especially Hugh Jackmann really kill it in this one. Thanks for your amazing videos, you put the greatest smile on my face with this upload today!!😊❤️

Clarissa

I really enjoyed your reaction but your school locations were throwing me off the whole time lol. Standford is in California, Juilliard is in New York, and of course East High is in New Mexico. Granted New Mexico and California aren’t exactly across the country but still if you’ve never left it can seem quite far.

Qaiyah

cant wait for you to watch the greatest showman and hairspray!!

heather

this one is my fav bc the production is so much better but mostly because “scream” is in it & that’s just iconic

heather

Also, Sharpay's character has a lot of growth in her own movie. More so on her learning to follow her dreams on her own. (it's actually not that bad like you think it would be.)

Samantha

Eagerly waiting for Kiss Land!

Fern Silverman

Since were done with the movies you should react to Ashley + Lucus performing What I've Been Looking For as apart of Ashley's backyard sessions a few years ago (and possibly her albums?) especially Guilty Pleasure and Symptoms.
