BTS | MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 | Full Album Reaction

Comments

j-hope has 136 credits to Suga's 141--it's not THAT much less experience. And he's been doing it for 13 years now. He had registered credits before Suga even (2012, pre-debut for Jo Kwon's Animal). So I just don't think it's fair to put out there, to people who are just meeting BTS, that kind of misleading information.

SNBangtan

I hope you are doing well. It’s been a week since the 2022 Festa dinner and hearing Namjoon tearfully express how they had planned on a world tour after On and then taking a break to work in solo stuff. I was actually shocked at my reaction and for a day I was truly upset. But I do trust the boys when they say they are committed to BTS, but they need to recharge. Now I’ve been able to listen to MOTS 7 again but it hits differently now. I think Black Swan was a hint about what RM and Suga were talking about. It makes sense to me that they would tackle Carl Jung’s theory about individuation as they questioned who they are as individuals. It was nice to hear your reaction again through this new lens. I’m excited for the solo work and JK’s new song with Charlie Puth is coming out Friday (June 24 and I’m not a huge fan of CP, I think they sound good together). And then J-Hope’s new album will drop mid July.

Yukari

If you like lyrical rap, Agust D’s D-2 is wonderful mixtape to listen to. It’s one of my fav albums ever <3

I know I'm late to this, but I'm binging your BTS reactions after I binged your Taylor ones and I think you'd love their concerts. MAP OF THE SOUL: ON:E was just released to Blueray and you can find tons of their concerts on their Weverse/V-Live apps. They're just on a whole other level. They're like Taylor Swift in the greatness, but in completely different ways, if that makes sense.

Janet Michelle

I think we are bulletproof: the eternal is a song for ARMY and for BTS themselves

This comment :::chef's kiss:::

Kiki Meowzilla

yeah I agree, the who is bts video really isn't one I'd recommend, I feel like it really generalises the members and makes them out to be really like one sided if that makes sense and some facts are wrong as well.

Hannah

You really should check Suga's solo mixtape! Agust D - D-2 Probably top 5 albums over last 5 years for me

Oleksandra Yakubenko

I second this! These THREE videos REALLY captures everything you'll need to know about BTS for a beginner.

Pakjira Areesomboon

"The Introduction to the 7 Members of BTS (2021 Update) By Ida S" is the best BTS introduction in my opinion, its updated and it really showcases their talents, vocals, raps, background. Here is a link to the video (https://youtu.be/kGRlqyuky2s) if you are interested :)

Pakjira Areesomboon

I think the “Who is BTS?(The Seven Members of Bangtan) is a little outdated. I think a better, updated one that shows their AMAZING talent is “The Introduction to the members of BTS (2021 update) by Ida S". This one really shows each members vocals, talents, their background and each of their roles in BTS that shows how all 7 of them are EQUALLY important to the team. Here is the link (https://youtu.be/kGRlqyuky2s)

Pakjira Areesomboon

“Introduction to the 7 Members of BTS 2021 Update” by Ida S (https://youtu.be/kGRlqyuky2s). This video is PERFECT for someone who is starting to get into BTS because it shows each individual’s roles in music and personalities. It is an updated version. Some are recommending the “Who is BTS?(The Seven Members of Bangtan)” but it is too outdated, made 4 years ago and doesn’t really show the each members specialty music-wise.

Pakjira Areesomboon

I love your reaction to this album, it was the first bts album I bought and I love going back and listening again because you always find bits that you didn’t notice before either production wise or lyrics that suddenly click! Also I noticed you mentioned the dumplings in the “Friends” and in their carpool karaoke with James Corden that topic is brought up between Jimin and V jokingly, so if you haven’t already I’d definitely recommend watching it!

mel

Hi! Could u pls include the lyrics video in the inferior part of ur reaction? So we can read and know what part of the lyrics u are talking about 😁

Clareth Fajardo

one of the coolest things about BTS is that every single rapper has a record setting solo album, every single vocalist has record setting solo songs, and together they're setting world records. Every single member of BTS is exemplary, and BTS as a whole is unprecedented in the music industry.

RinM

Hi! I love your reactions! I can't believe I watched it all 😂 but I was enjoying so much! 💜 I'm your new Patreon too, just subscribed to watch more uncut BTS reactions from you. I also just wanna say that Agust D is totally different from Suga. So Agust D's songs aren't in any BTS albums, but he's got his own mixtape called Agust D and another one that's called D-2 💜 Suga is really amazing when he raps in his different personas. The vibe he gives off rapping as Suga from BTS is different from the vibe that Agust D gives off. Same with that one song that he did with Halsey. I believe it wasn't his Suga persona that was rapping on that particular song, it was Yoongi (his real name/who he is behind the screen) 💜 anyway, I can't wait for more BTS contents from you!

Rane May

Would really recomend the on mv (kinetic manifesto film) . It really shows off their dancing/performance.

Hello! I just wanted to say that I have really enjoyed watching your reactions. They seem truly genuine and I love how you really pay attention to the deep meaning behind the lyrics. BTS are absolutely known for for their lyricism, even since their debut in 2013. It is the main reason that I became an ARMY, and once i started to learn each of their personalities I was all in! They truly are very kind, compassionate and hilarious once you get to know them. I saw in this reaction that you are interested in checking our the Love Yourself series. It is a three album series that covers the stages of falling in and out of love. "Love Yourself: Her" was released in September of 2017 and focuses on falling in love with someone. "Love Yourself: Tear" was released in May of 2018 and focuses on heartbreak and the loss of love. "Love Yourself: Answer" was released in August of 2018 and focuses on the fact that you cannot love someone else until you truly love yourself. If you decide to dive into these albums, I would highly recommend doing them in order so you can experience the journey through their lyrics and story telling!

Ryanne

Turned up *way* late for this reaction, but ooh boy, a doozy! Thank you so much for ALL of this. I have to say your reactions were like mine in so many places. I love this harmony. I love this lyrical depth, and on, and on. I don't have anything to add that hasn't already been said, except to strongly encourage you to see ALL the available videos. I have a serious interest in seeing your reaction to Black Swan by MN Dance Company: https://youtu.be/vGbuUFRdYqU (was released first) to BTS own MV for the same song: https://youtu.be/0lapF4DQPKQ Though this (obviously) wasn't part of the Musem showcase Connect BTS, it is also another art form that connects us as audiences. Art has no limits. I also think you'll get so much mileage out of the other MV's from the MotS: 7 album. Quick thought on We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal. This is the 3rd "We are Bulletproof" that BTS has done. Yes, this one is for the fans, or as I call them, BTS encouragement/love songs for ARMY. 2! 3!, Pied Piper, Magic Shop, Mikrokosmos, Answer: Love Myself Oh, I guess the last bit of info. IF you are on Weverse Shop you could buy the ON:E concert. ;) Jus' sayin.

-Mac-

“After seven winters and springs” - We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal, just hits home for ARMY. For an album made by 7 members to celebrate their 7 year anniversary, this song was just the cherry on top that had me ballin. I’m glad you are enjoying their music.

Mae

Be sure to check out the songs Mikrocosmos and Home from the Map of the Soul Persona album, the rest from the album you just heard. There are a few singles that got released with their Japanese albums like Your Eyes Tell and Stay Gold.

So if you wanna get into their personalities and dynamics here's a list of content since a lot of people have already answered regarding music! Official content: free -they have a variety show called run bts (can be watched on the apps vlive and weverse), it's a fun sort of 'gameshow' that posted pretty much weekly when they're not doing official activities like comebacks, it's very funny and showcases their comedic sides a lot, it's a very fun show and again free (but there are behind the scenes for each ep that you can pay to access), the show goes back a good few years! Official content: paid -they have docuseries and movies that really focus on their lives when on tour and the realities of it / the struggles they go through to put on their shows, it's very raw and really shows just how hard they work and very difficult things they go through whilst touring as well as delving into their mindsets and thoughts on certain deeper topics as well as showing some of the fun/chill behind the scenes stuff they do on tour (if you're interested then start with the docuseries "burn the stage") -bon voyage is a travel variety show in which they have 4 seasons so far, basically they travel to different countries and do fun activities, it can be super chill and relaxing, super funny etc. It's one of my faves! The production gets better and better with every season as they get a bigger budget etc. Since the first season was back when they still didn't have a super big budget for stuff. It's cool seeing their dynamics when they travel, it really feels like just seeing a bunch of friends go on a trip together it's lovely! -in the soop is kinda an unofficial season 5 to bon voyage almost? Due to the pandemic, they couldn't travel out of the country so they did this show in which they went away for a week to another place in Korea, this show is VERY healing and relaxing, it's my absolute comfort show. It features a lot of cooking and down time, it's seriously so chill it really warms my heart, there are some very heartfelt and personal moments in this show, it really shows their dynamic as a family and kinda what they each like to do during their down time. I can't stress enough how healing it is! Unofficial content -there is a YouTube series created *by armys* (bts fans) basically documenting bts' whole journey, it's good because you also kinda learn a bit about the industry in general! They use a lot of official clips from things such as bangtan bombs (short clips uploaded on bts' YouTube channel) etc. I think they're very good as far as I've seen, it really shows you their journey from the beginning and idk how much you know but the beginning was VERY different to now, I think you'd learn a lot and find it interesting! It's on the channel TheRiseOfBangtanOfficial ! -I don't know if they have but people may have recommended a video called "who is Bts? The 7 members of bangtan (introduction)" by the channel suga & spice, it's not a bad video however it was made 3 years ago and is pretty outdated at this point, I wouldn't recommend watching it (at least definitely not before you see other stuff), a lot of people wanting to get into bts get recommended this video as one of their first but yeah it's outdated and I truly wouldn't recommend it at this point, I think there's better stuff for the present day! They have A LOT more content where they showcase their personality, truly the amount of content is overwhelming, so this is just a few things I thought I'd recommend that I think are really good for learning about bts as people and as friends! As for where to upload, most of it would probably have to be for Patreon only especially paid content as YouTube is quick to take it down, however fan made stuff like the series I recommended is perfectly fine to be put on YouTube if you wanted to do that! Hope this is helpful and not incredibly overwhelming lol, just thought I'd mention it since you said you would be interested in learning more! :]

Gurocandii

I just read through all the comments here. I don't have much to add except that Agust D is Suga's name that he uses for solo projects. My favorite of these is Daechwita which is an absolutely astounding rap music video written produced and performed by Agust D (Suga)

Mark W. Ballard

So glad for you to be back reviewing a BTS album. The first time I ever listened to you was for the album BE. It was so great that it led me to become a patreon supporter.

Mark W. Ballard

I started to watch this on YouTube, but then I just went and subscribe to Patreon to see full reaction to one of my favourites albums! I gotta support your hard work reacting to the whole mots7 album! Thank you so much, I enjoyed your review and listening an album with you! 💜 BTW: did you notice how much you can also learn with BTS, like who's Dionysus, what is the meaning for Jamais Vu? Also the Carl Jung and the whole psiholoigcal concept of Map of the soul: persona, shadow and ego? That's just one of many reasons why I will always love BTS, improving and moving your mind and soul! BTW2: song ON is my anthem of motivation, specially in the gym! 😂 Can't wait for you to dive more into BTS rabbit hole! Much love! 🤗

Ana_989

BTS lyrics and concepts are so deep you have no idea! I want to give you a bit of context for the overall themes and structure of this album. Because this album marked the 7th year since their debut, introspection and reflection are a huge part of the album. The title Map of the Soul comes from a book of the same name by Carl Jung, a Swiss psychologist and psychiatrist who founded analytic psychology (very well known in the field of psychology). Jung believed that the human psyche had three parts: the ego, personal unconscious and collective unconscious. Jung's theory of the human psyche is what informed the structure of this album. The tracks Persona, Shadow, and Ego are a direct link, but the album as a whole also reflects this theory. The PERSONA (or mask) is the outward face we present to the world. It conceals our real self and Jung describes it as the “conformity” archetype. This is the public face or role a person presents to others as someone different to who we really are (like an actor). The members of BTS mentions their struggle between their persona and 'real' self multiple times. SHADOW. This is the animal side of our personality (like the id in Freud). It is the source of both our creative and destructive energies. The shadow exists as part of the unconscious mind and is composed of repressed ideas, weaknesses, desires, instincts, and shortcomings. The shadow can include everything outside the light of consciousness and may be positive or negative. Jung talk about confronting the shadow, and that we must take on all elements of it, and learn to accept them but channel them for wholeness and not allow them to take us over. Suga talks about this in his solo track, about his fears and struggles. But in the end, talking to the shadow, he says "I am you and you are me". He accepts his shadow as a part of who he is. This concept is also repeated in other tracks in different ways. EGO. To Jung, the ego is the center of the field of consciousness, the part of the psyche where our conscious awareness resides, our sense of identity and existence. This part can be seen as a kind of “command HQ”, organizing our thoughts, feelings, senses, and intuition, and regulating access to memory. It is the part that links the inner and outer worlds together, forming how we relate to that which is external to us. How a person relates to the external world is, according to Jung, determined by their levels of extroversion or introversion and how they make use of the functions of thinking, feeling, sensation, and intuition. Some people have developed more of one or two of these facets than the others, which shapes how they perceive the world around them. This is the ego J-Hope refers to in his track.

Cat L

It has been a real joy to listen to MOTS:7 from Persona to Ego with you and see your reactions. I am really appreciating the passion and care you put into what you do! It's great to see the details you noticed, and the threads that run throughout this project from start to finish, without even knowing a lot about each member or their history together. I kept thinking while watching about how much work went into this album (I think some of them have alluded to the project being more difficult than they imagined) and then how much work went into preparing to tour the album just as the pandemic was starting. The members talk often at how hard it was to suddenly have no tour and no way to bring these songs directly to fans face-to-face. The BE album was an unexpected result of all of that. Hearing this whole album again deepened the perspective for me of how tremendously hard that must have been for each of them, because this album has so much of their souls in it. Looking forward to the next album series, and if you get a chance to listen to HOME and Mikrokosmos first, they are both wonderful, too! The joy and brilliance of this group is that there is something for everyone--voice, genre, songwriting, music, production, dancing, videos, live performances, variety show, tour documentaries, travel shows, behind-the-scenes, VLives. I'll be here for whatever journey you share with us. BTS is joy and comfort to listen to alone, but even better in community 💜

jennptx

I'm adding my vote for you to watch DKDKTV's explanation of UGH! It's such a deep important song.

Cat L

I’m so happy you did this! I’ve been so excited for more since your BE reaction. I love it and j can’t wait to watch more of your content! 💜

Shay

The part where you said V's deep voice on Dionysus was actually Jin.

Ophelia

It is also necessary for you to watch the DKDKTV explanation of UGH and Boy with luv mv and the Persona comeback trailer, and then do the bookish theories explanations for the music videos for the songs ON official mv (this is a 27 mn long video but worth it), Black Swan mv, EGO comeback trailer, Shadow comeback trailer (which is divided in two parts one part focuses on the initial lyrical analysis and mv and the other part focuses on the art that is featured in the mv), the bookish theories explanation for the songs jamais vu, make it right and dionysus, and then my time and moon. Hopefully you get to watch those because they provide a lot of context into the themes, symbols and concepts that the boys use in their music and the music videos. I do recommend you watch the music videos for the songs that have them (Persona, shadow, ego, ON mv, Black Swan, we are bulletproof the eternal) first before watching the explanations and I promise you are in to be mindblown

Gaica

yes I agree on the most beautiful life goes on!! the others are so outdated and maybe burn the stage and the other series

Stephy13

if you wanna watch an intro video I recommend 3 of them they all have different information in them. 1st one to watch is This is BTS by xceleste, Introduction to the 7 members of BTS 2021 update by IDA S and BTS hardships 2013 to 2021 by xceleste.

Gaica

Im so so happy for this. Thank you! And please I vote (kkkkkk) the series burn the stage 💜

Fabiana Souza

Thanks for this! Love this so much, it’s pretty much all been said, so I can’t wait to watch more BTS reactions, and their MVs and performances that are really mind blowing!

Claudia

just joined today! loved the reaction cant wait for more videos of your bts journey

Stephy13

thank you so much for such an insightful reaction. Appreciate you ;) , also jin was the high vocal at the end of Dionysus!

lau

Didnt see someone comment this, but BTS have fan songs, songs written exclusive for there fans. Moon is a song that Jin wrote to talk about his love for ARMY (there Fans). These songs are extremely special to ARMY and to BTS and usually bring alot of crying at concerts or in general. This album has 2. Moon and Eternal. Also songs for ARMY are usually the last song they sing at there concerts. Eternal was suppose to be the closer for the 2020 tour. Mikrokosmos another ARMY song from the album before Mots 7, was the closer for the 2019 tour.

Ninzie

Thank you so much, I loved this reaction! I can’t wait for more BTS album reviews and I hope you can react to their music videos and live performances someday! Also, some cool MOTS:7 videos I recommend checking out are the BTS ‘ON’ Commentary Film: Dialogue(It’s behind the scenes making of this album). And the Answer: BTS 3 Units(Which are kind of like behind the scene stories for the 3 units songs) for ‘Jamais Vu’, ‘Friends’ and ‘Respect’.

DanielleM

yay more bts! i really love their recent wired autocomplete interview to kind of get a teaser for their personalities. then you can dive in deeper with intro videos that have been reccommended and run bts too!

turtlenecksok

Love this reactions and your appreciation of good music. It’s ok to have a favourite that’s called having a bias and usually everyone has a bias and one his wrecker mine is Jimin but Jhope is my wrecker. I would maybe start off at their first album and go from there this way you understand their growth. Their documentary series are great to watch as well as for consent their Run BTS series. As RM said their English songs were traps that throw you down the BtS rabbit hole and it can take more then a year to watch everything. I’ll continue to support your channel because you seem really genuine 😬

H

If you wanna just feel the chemistry of the members themselves, I recommend watching ARMY CORNERSTORE on their youtube channel BANGTAN TV. It's just them talking about memories and honestly a great way to get to know them, their personalities and dynamic! https://youtu.be/wRWMeT6ykFU

Laura

In case you wanna watch an BTS documentary I recommend The Most Beautiful Life Goes On: A Story of BTS (2021 Update!) by The Asian Theory - https://youtu.be/48Tc_Y2U0Tg and in case you want to dive REALLY deep into their story from the beginning there is a high-quality fan-made doku series on the channel TheRiseOfBangtanOfficial https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-SW84yQryPIFDwBX--YMxw which is absolutely amazing...it's still on work bc their story is long but it's so worth it to watch these ^.^

Saskia Voigt

If you are going to react to the love yourself albums I highly recommend to listen to them in order because there is a set of 3 albums that tell a story...it begins with love yourself: her, then love yourself: tear and finally love yourself: answer - you can see the 3 albums as a story but their music videos and solos also are part of a way bigger story, the story of bangtan universe...I suggest you not to dive into the bangtan universe yet and it's not necessary at all to understand the story the album set tells.

Saskia Voigt

First of all: I loved your reaction, especially your happiness when you realized you get a solo from every member :)

Saskia Voigt

It's so cool that you made a comparison between 00:00 and fresh snow falling cause that was exactly what had inspired RM while writing the lyrics (which he mentioned in a livestream)!

janagabrielles

In terms of getting to know the origin story of both the band and the members, I would recommend "The Most Beautiful Life Goes On: A Story of BTS'. However, to dive into their personalities, I'd agree with a lot of the comments that their reality TV shows like Run BTS are great. There's A LOT, of episodes though, so unless you wanna go the whole way through, I'll let you know that episodes 24, 33, 83-85, 97 and 132 tend to be fan faves :)

fpty

Oh gosh your comment section is holding it down!! Just want to say I’m looking forward to your reaction to the rest of the discography and please look forward to the wings/you never walk alone installments which include solos of all the members, it really is amazing how talented these guys are together and on their own. cheers!

Kat O

I loved this so much, I will comment more when I can think properly. Thank you for this video! <3

Abi M.

I just wanted to comment on UGH!, on top of getting the translation from Doolset, I highly suggest you watch the DKDKTV video explanation of the song (it’s in their Youtube channel). Reason is because there are so many cultural references that would definitely got missed out on pure translations only. Aside from that, AM SO HAPPY you reacted to this album! Drink hot lemon to soothe your throat, stay well!

ojochan

Personally, I think "Who is BTS? (The Seven Members of Bangtan)" is a bit too outdated at this point, it was made 4 years ago and the members have changed a lot since then and have gone through so much career wise, although it does do a good job at introducing their personalities. Also, as you've noticed while listening to this album, they often reference their past and the hardships they've dealt with, especially at the beginning of their career. I highly suggest the video "BTS HARDSHIPS 2013-2021 | Racism, mistreatment, accusations + more | Struggles throughout the years" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdY6wnLsetQ) which I think does an amazing job at explaining everything they've been through. I'd love to see your reaction to it!!

SB

There's so much I could say, but others have covered a lot of it already. Thank you so much for your wonderful reaction. It's a real treat to watch someone who loves music so deeply experience a new album for the first time. The solo tracks for BTS are so special, not just to highlight the different members skills and voices, but you really do get to see their personalities shine through. For instance, Intro: Persona has RM's philosophical POV, asking questions and searching for answers while Interlude: Shadow has Suga exploring his emotions and all of the vulnerability that comes with that and finally J-Hope, who tries to find the positive in life, even when darkness exists. Each speaks to their individual ways of viewing the world and processing emotions and experiences. You showed some interest in getting to know the members better. You're going to see some people reccing content that I personally don't think is the best. "Who Is BTS? The Seven Members of Bangtan" is constantly recced but in my opinion while it's fine, it's extremely outdated at this point. A fan made it in early 2018 and people change a lot in 3 years, plus it's told from the viewpoint of the fan and how they perceive the members rather than from the members themselves. If you're looking for a deep dive, The Rise of Bangtan series on youtube is excellent. It's very well put together, uses their own words and interviews, and covers their entire history in depth, but it is long (and still going). You could also watch the official release Burn the Stage documentary series. It only covers a particular tour but it could give you a good feel for their personalities and thought process. My personal favorite thing BTS has put out is BTS: In The Soop. You will learn nothing about their history in it, but it's a fantastic look into their friendships. It's just the 7 members spending a week together by a lake hanging out. Thanks again for the wonderful reaction!

Lisa

also!! if you’re looking to find out more about the members’ personalities (which i highly recommend— it makes the listening to their music even better than it already is), you should watch “Who is BTS? (The Seven Members of Bangtan)” !! the video is a few years old but it honestly does the such a great job of introducing all the members and touching on some of their history as well!! just a thought it might be helpful in the future!! :)

jay

hey beveraggi!! i’ve been watching your videos since the beginning of this year and just wanted to comment to tell you how happy it makes me that you’re starting to get into bts!! i joined you here on patreon for taylor but it has been so much fun to see you react to some of my favorite things like olivia, hsmtmts, hamilton, and now even bts?! it’s all of my favorite things in one place!! this video made me especially happy because it really reminded me of when i first got into bts myself (isn’t it so cool that we get solo songs and different combinations of members on these albums?!?? your reaction to finding out that jungkook had a solo song made me smile so much!!) i don’t usually comment on videos but i just really wanted let you know how happy it makes me to be able to witness your bts journey! thank you for the awesome video as always!! keep being you!!❤️

jay

don’t worry, there’s plenty of content out there (like… so much it’s overwhelming lmao) where u can learn more about them personally !! there’s so much to dive into with them. what i love most about them and what made me fall in love with them in the first place is the way they all love each other. they truly cherish one another like brothers and i hope that’s something u can see more of with them in the future :,) thank u for reacting to this !! cant wait for the next one 🤍

amanda

Okay last comment lol Yes, they were nearing their 7th anniversary when this came out and 7 is a big number for them because of the 7 members and it's also a lucky number in korea (The cover of the album has 7 number 7s layered over each other, each one represents a member) The whole MOTS era also pays homage to their early work, mainly the School Trilogy, which were their first releases. Intro: Persona samples Intro: Skool Luv Affair, from 2014, while Boy With Luv is a shout out to their single Boy In Luv (the ending/starting pose for the choreo is the same!) Interlude: Shadow samples Intro : O! RUL8,2, from 2013, and ON is a shout out to their second single N.O (they even recreated the teaser from back then for a performance last year) And finally Outro: EGO samples Intro: 2 Cool 4 Skool, their first ever release in 2013. It first came out on the groups' teaser before debut (it's where the 'ready, set and begin/bighit exclusive' bits come from) There are music videos for: Persona, Boy With Luv, Make it Right (remix with Lauv), Shadow, Black Swan, ON and Ego and live performances for all of the songs except Louder Than Bombs and WAB: The Eternal. They performed everything else on either TV shows or on their Map of The Soul online concert. I'm loving watching your journey with BTS and can't wait for you to discover more and more about their work and eventually also how incredible they are as people as well

Giu Bressani

I loved getting your thoughts on this album! If you’re wanting to watch any further content for these songs, you can find music videos for Boy With Luv, Shadow, Black Swan, On, and Ego, and you can find live performances of all of those and also Persona, Make it Right, Dionysus, and Filter! Thank you so much for taking the time to do these reactions! I love how much you appreciate music and hearing your thoughts.

Jenna

Man, it's been over a year and a half and I still can't listen to The Eternal without crying lol It is a song for the fans (they have many in their discography!) They went through a lot of hardships in the beginning of their career and it's about how now we are millions walking this path together. There's a beautiful music video for this song that touches on their story and it might not mean much to someone who doesn't know everything that happened in the past, but it's really emotional for the fans lol Also, the name is a shout out to their debut, when they had a song called We Are Bulletproof. Also, their name in korean means Bulletproof Boyscouts and they got a lot of hate for the name, so when RM says "The name that everyone laughed at, that was once embarrassing, this is the iron proof, “Bullet-proof” it really means that they're now immune to anything because of their fans and what they've conquered

Giu Bressani

In Dionysus, they are equating the act of partying to that of art, instead of getting drunk off alcohol they are getting drunk off music and art. It's an interesting concept if you think about it. Just to clarify, as many others have already done, Jin does a lot of the high notes in this song, that high belt you heard was him. Thank you for asking instead of assuming like others have, almost everyone says it's Jimin. If I remember correctly I think J-Hope actually had a larger hand in the creation of this song but don't quote me on this. Interlude Shadow is another interesting concept. When you asked what did they bleep out, the answer is nothing. They didn't bleep out a word. I think they left it blank because Suga is listing all the things he wants, there is legit an endless number of things he could want. They did it again with what he needs, I think it's to show that it could be everything or nothing, the possibilities are endless. The opening of Black Swan wasn't J-Hope, it was Suga. Black Swan is very much like the movie/ballet. It's talking about how when they lose their passion for music, it will be their first death. The song is dark but beautiful in the wordplay and harmonies. I would def suggest watching the MV for this one, I mean, watch the MV's for all the available songs but this one is definitely just as beautiful. You mentioned Love Yourself, Just a side note that I am sure others have already said, Love Yourself is a trilogy. It starts with Love Yourself: Her, Love Yourself: Tear, and Love Yourself: Answer. Each album has a different vibe whereas LYS: Answer is more of a compilation of the other two albums. Answer does have some new songs on it and longer versions of others that came from the previous ones!

BTW the name in Korean is 'Chingu', which means a friend of the same age. In korean, you have different ways to call friends who are either older or younger than you, so that's the word to call a friend without any kind of hierarchy. In the group, only Jimin/V (1995) and RM/J-Hope (1994) are the same age and call each other 'chingu'

You're right about Inner Child being V (Taehyung) singing to his child self and also Friends being about Jimin and V themselves! They are very close in age and really call each other soulmates (like in the song) and this is a song about their friendship. A little fun trivia is that they asked RM for help to write some lyrics but he said no one could tell their story but themselves They joined the group only some months apart and went to high school together (since they both moved from their cities to Seoul to join the group) so they grew really close since then (late 2012)

I love your reaction! I highly recommend a video UGH! Explained by a Korean. When I say there are levels to this song, that’s an understatement!

The high note in Dionysus was Jin! They had just finished recording vocals and their CEO was just like “Jin why don’t you just come back in and give me a nice scream?” And he just went with it 😂

okay a little context! Maybe someone already talked about this? But oh well SUGA (real name Yoongi, you'll probably see the name around) was an underground rapper before joining BTS and he left his parent's place and moved to Seoul because he wanted to be a producer. He once said that he really just wanted to make money and never had the desire to be famous. He also used to suffer from bad social anxiety and talked a lot about it in the past and his first mixtape. His solo work and most of his verses tend to be very introspective and sincere and sometimes sad and angry. Meanwhile, RM (Namjoon) was also an underground rapper and was the first to be signed to BigHit when he was around 16 and the whole group was kind of formed around him because the CEO really thought it would be an waste to let that kid debut. he is a lot more focused on lyrics than SUGA (tho they both produce and write a lot) and I think you can really tell by his verses and solo work how much of a lyrical genius he is. He never fails to blow our minds with word play, references and creativity J-Hope (Hoseok) joined as a dancer and he didn't rap at all before meeting the boys, but out of three, personally, I think he's the one with most character when he raps. He has so much personality and you will never ever be bored by whatever he does. He's the one with less writing/producing experience, but also has a solo mixtape and some solo songs and you can always tell his style is fun and different

High note on Dionysus is Jin! Such a hidden gem and underrated vocals in general, but he always kills those high notes. Also Dio was the opening of their last tour Speak Yourself and yeah, it is crazy live! You should definitely eventually get to their concerts, it will blow your mind

The sea/desert is a reference that BTS's been using for many many years, comparing their struggling years desert until finally finding the sea (happiness/sucess/the love from the fans/etc) so you will find it in many lyrics. Also, this album doesn't have two songs that were released on Map of The Soul Persona, which are HOME and Mikrokosmos!
