I can't help it, I'm rewatching all of these again. A thought just occurred to me: Halsey & Taylor Swift are basically the same artists, just with different origin stories. They're both such storytellers, so talented with the lyrics and melodies, but I feel like the difference is that Taylor grew up feeling like she had to be the good girl, and leaned into that, like she touches on in the Americana doc, but Halsey was raised being told that she was already a bad girl, so she may as well be the baddest girl, and it's very clear in her debut album that's how she felt. I also think it's telling that even though they both achieved great success, Taylor is at a level I don't know if Halsey will ever reach, and that it's unfortunately likely that part of the reasoning is that Halsey never pandered to those people who thought she should be the good girl Taylor was always seen as.

This was a great reaction! I don’t know you if take suggestions or even like musicals lol, but if you do there are some great musicals from starkid productions on YouTube. They write and pro form they own stuff and it’s actually so professional they preform in theaters. There are so many great singers and original songs. Even if you don’t post a reaction you should definitely check it out they are great!

Me too, she is so good, feel like Michael would really like her, she is really similar to Taylor swift with her songwriting and her cheekiness and quirkiness in her lyrics, hope we can get him to react to it

Thanks for reacting to Badlands!! It is very different, but it was such a moment for so many of us. Check out her videos for each era too!! Halsey's videos are amazing.

Off topic, but you really should listen to the debut album by Maisie Peters - it’s called You signed up for this, it is really good, she is 21 years old and she was signed by Ed Sheeran to his own music label, Taylor swift is also a big fan too

you should listen (either on the channel or on your own time) to halsey's song nightmare. it's another completely different style that she's never hit before but it's my favorite song of hers by far.

so glad you checked this out!! I listened to this project shortly after it came out and fell in love with it and Halsey. Roman Holiday is def my fav. It reminds me of summer when my mom, sister and i would blare this song in the car with the windows down. ALSO if you were looking for new girl bands to get into you should definitely check out Boys World, they have an EP and just released a new single!!

Halsey used to be so indie lol... especially when she came out with this album. I didn't really listen to her when she became mainstream, no fault of hers, I just loved this sound and album so much

The “I hope you make it til the day you’re 28 years old” make me think of Cobain and the 27 club. seeing that she references him in New Americana that would prob be pretty familiar with that pop culture reference

Loved it! This reminds me of 2015 (when it came out)… that year marked the beginning of the alt / indie pop girls era. Cry Baby came out that year too… everyone was deeply immersed in tumblr culture lol. They were some of the albums / musicians that I believe really set the stage for artists like Billie to be warmly received in the mainstream. Speaking of, would love for you to react to K-12 by Melanie as well, since you already did Cry Baby!

If you ever feel like listening in your free time, this performance of Colors is one of my favorite performances of hers because her vocals in the last chorus never fail to give me chills: https://youtu.be/nejOZXqgWvw

This has remained one of my favorite albums for the last 6 years, and it's so cool to see someone just listen to it for the first time. It's also interesting seeing a different perspective, as this is my favorite Halsey album and Manic is my least favorite. I'm super excited for If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it & the short film.

You are just reigniting all the nostalgia with this latest round of reactions... this album got me through college. I love this and consider the deluxe one of my fave albums of all time. I cannot wait to see your reaction to Colors and I Walk the Line...Gasoline, Control...lolz They're all bangers with strong lyricism. I cannot believe you avoided New Americana. She blew up after that one. It was everywhere early 2010s. Idk if you're doing Halsey music videos so I won't spoil Color for you, but it explains it soooo cinematically. The twist endinggggg.

So I wrote you a tweet about this, but I think I should write here too, I met Halsey before the badlands era, when she realized her first EP, called Room 93 (you should react to that too) and I remember that I was madly in love with her and the fact that she was only 2 years older than me, made me feel so relatable and I listen the EP over and over and I also listen to colors and I remember that it was a version recorded live in on of her gigs and someone on tumblr try to clear it out a little but there was a lot of screaming of the fans, but when I finally listen to badlands it was just a masterpiece, it's my favorite album of hers and I'm really happy that you enjoy it, you made me go back like 7 years and it was kinda nostalgic, it made me miss it but at the same time I realize that I grow up so much and Halsey too, that we both evolve for the best and I'm proud of being her fan, lots of love xx
