These episodes really show what I already wrote in the last comments: It is in it's style way more like an Edgar Wright movie and less like Steven Spielberg or whatever Season 2 was based on (Exorcist for one). In these episode we really get to see it. - The comedy - The over-characterisation (every character has a specific trade almost to an inhuman amount) - The transitions (pretty much every transition of scenes has some purpose or connecting tissue) - The dialogue (quick but precise) - The almost B-Movie logic at some points that somehow makes sense because of the world they build up (best seen with Scoops-Troop as the whole under-ground base makes no sense, has strange design and that nobody of the over 20 people noticed them in the open is stupid but we accept it because that is the world they have set up) - The Movie-References (specifically 80s movies) The Script-Writing in particular is really evident here to be more in that style as best scene in Episode 5 with Joyce yelling at Murry and how she quickly sums up the last 4 episodes and how ridiculous it all is and then ends with "...how he makes the magnets fall of my dam fridge" (still one of my favourite monologues in this show) I think the first 2 episodes were a bit less focused on a single goal because they wanted us to get used to the style before the season really starts. They showed every character and most important relationships we knew from the last two seasons and how they are portrayed in this new and more cartoony style so that we understood them all and didn't compare the plot that followed to the last two seasons. If that breather wasn't there it would feel extremely strange what is happening right now (especially the Scoops-Troop and their invasion of the Russian base) In the end, I think this style was needed at this point in Stranger Things because: 1. We needed a different tone from the first two who are both quite focused on Horror and extremely serious most of the time 2. This tone really helps with characterisation of all characters and to make us even more attached to them. Humour is always one of the best ways to characterise someone in a fun way that really connects the Audience with that character 3. It works quite well as the style for "the summer season" of Stranger Things

2022-07-17 17:15:12 +0000 UTCThe crazy thing about Nancy and Jonathan's fight is that they are both right. There was a good story there to pursue, and Nancy was being undervalued in the workplace. On the other hand, Jonathan really did need to keep his job to help support his family. When Episode 5 opens, Hopper and Joyce are at the Hess farm, the last property that was recently sold. Mrs. Driscoll's house is somewhere else. "You can't spell America without Erica." May be one of my all-time favorite lines. When Billy breaks down in the sauna, I think he might have been sincere in his distress. Even though he is not a good person, who wouldn't be scared to death? The Mindflayer used that moment grab the broken piece of tile. This is just my opinion; it could have all been a ruse.

Millie was so exhausted from the physical demand that the scene required that she genuinely couldn’t keep herself up and fell into finn, you can actually see finn look towards the camera crew because he didn’t know what was going on.

I love watching this show with you for the first time. I am waiting to see season 4 with you too. Can't wait. I only saw season 1 and part of season 2 before. I started watching this shoe because of Winona Ryder. She is the best always.

I may be watching on my phone but this totally makes the next few hours bearable again!!! Also completely understand your take on the first few episodes... love that its hit its horror swing now... i feel like this season has been focussing a lot more on interpersonal relationships alongside the terror where as the prior seasons i felt were heavy in the drama
