I was holding my breath the whole last 20mins!!! the goosebumps!!! definitely my fav ep of the whole series.cant wait for them to all be together. the stress of all of them in different places and different situations is killing me!!

El chose to stay with him ultimately so that she would regain her powers and to save her friends, not because she was back tracking after everything that has happened since she escaped the lab. They relationship is super complex since he is the one that she knew as a parental figure during her early developmental years. He's selfish and power hungry and I am glad that she has been shown that she does not have to settle for his mistreatment of her--there are other people in the world who will care for her in the way she deserves.

2022-08-24 23:54:57 +0000 UTCI've said it once and I'll say it again, it was a crime for Sadie and Millie to not have gotten Emmy noms for their work on this season it's just absolutely insane. Everyone said everything I wanna say except a small detail about El's note to Mike. In a previous episode, El was sad that Mike never said he loved her and pointed out that he always signed his letters "From Mike" while she signed hers "Love El" and she signed the letter from this episode "From El" and it just breaks my heart a tiny bit because it makes me think about her writing that letter and having to consciously think "I shouldn't write love because he doesn't write it" and I think anyone can relate to that feeling of doubting yourself. Also I was so happy you shouted out Joseph Quinn's (Eddie) acting skills I think he played this role perfectly I love him here so much.

Also that whole scene from episode 4 at the end with max, with her memories, running away from vecna and into reality with her friends, also iconic! It was amazing! It's so satisfying for her to go #1 on the UK charts (the oldest women to ever do so) and to have her first top 10 hit in the US with "Running Up that Hill." Kate Bush is somewhat reclusive. It is nearly impossible to see her perform live. She did a 22-night residency in London in 2014; she has only gone on tour once. Her SNL performance is 1979 is her only live US television performance. This lady keeps herself rare! She did one and only one interview regarding Stranger Things and her #1 with BBC Women's Hour. It is well worth listening to: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0018gqv There are no spoilers! As someone else mentioned, Robert Englund, who played Freddy Krueger, plays Victor Creel. According to the Duffer Brothers, he sent them an audition tape, which they took as a complete honor. This season is definitely influenced by the Nightmare on Elm Street series, so it is a crazy bit of synchronicity that Robert pursued the role. When we were watching Season 2, I talked about how Dr. Owen was a good man with few choices. He is back in the same position in this season. His choices are the end of humanity or team up with Dr. Brenner. Thankfully, he gave El the choice to go with him or not. However, he definitely should have warned her about Brenner. The Euphoria-like scene at the Beyers house was a one-shot take. It's amazing, and somehow the second greatest scene in the episode. Episode 4 is insanely good. There are a couple of pop culture references I want to point out. Jonathan calls the cops that guard them "Ponch and Jon," which is a reference to the TV Show "CHiPs." When Will and Mike call the phone number that makes a modem sound, Will says it sounds like "War Games," which was a movie with Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy. Never trust a guy who jokes his way through a ransom deal. As soon as Yuri offered them coffee, and was screaming "don't drink it!" When Mike threw away the note, he was taking Will's advice not to obsess over it. I don't think this was bad advice. Mike was clearly miserable just staring at it. While it's true that Will and Mike aren't saying everything, they are being more open and honest with each other here. Congrats on spotting Chekov's snowmobile in the last episode! You were absolutely right that it came into play here. Ella Fitzgerald definitely had the voice of an angel. I think her and Louis Armstrong's duet on "Cheek to Cheek" is one of the songs that could save me from Vecna.

She doesn't trust Brenner at all, but her main concern is getting her powers back and to save her friends. (Thats was her at the end that did that to the 2 guards) But what I think is that the other reason she stayed is because she did show that her powers are coming back and she does believe that Brenner can help her get her powers. Also, she does have some trust in Owen's. These 2 episodes are some of my favorites.

That montage scene of some of her memories of who she loves/who love her gets me every time. It truly shows that she’s finally choosing to fight for herself with the help/love of the group. I screamed at that euphoria ref because too true!! Dusty and Steve duo give me life. Cannot wait for your next reactions for ep 6&7. “If that’s papa I’m going to scream” me @ the whole episode once I saw him, I love the way the writers made dr. brenner (papa) and el’s relationship so complexly detailed. Sooo many unsaid things.

2022-08-24 02:18:44 +0000 UTCYes, exactly! and for so many years now, she has been the only thing capable of stopping the evil that's in hawkins and she knows it. she knows she has to stay with Papa because she wants to save her friends and their families in Hawkins, he's her only hope of getting her powers back. El and Dr Brenner have such a complex relationship. It's very nuanced. Because on one hand, she's been his prisoner and he's the reason for a lot of her trauma, and on the other, he was her first father figure. the father she knew for the first 8-10 years of life, from infancy to her escape.
Papa’s lip was bleeding because El hit him in the mouth with the defibrillator when she woke up. Her powers didn’t work on him because she didn’t have full control yet. He opened the door for her to “give her a choice”. She knows that she’s stuck in the middle of nowhere, and that Papa is the only one who can help her get her powers back, so she chose to continue training with him.

Max was depressed and contemplating suicide, and at the episode's final scene, she decided to live. The entire event is a metaphor for overcoming PTSD or despair because it is so symbolic. Either you let it devour you, or you keep battling. SUCH a powerful scene!

Her choosing to stay with him doesn't necessarily invalidate anything that's happened, but she realizes that she would be lost in the desert with no powers or resources if she refused his help at this point :/
