2023-03-02 07:16:07 +0000 UTCYou've mentioned a couple of times that the show manages to make blind jokes funny, and I think that's something that these writers do very well. The writers have a sort of inclusivity built into the narrative. Jokes about Tophs blindness almost always come from Toph and they are always on her side. They never put Toph down and they make a point that she is not weak or less capable than anyone else. They treat Toph as a whole person which, unfortunately, is so rare in media, especially in almost 20 year old media. I love this show because it's a fun story and characters. But more importantly it deals with real life and complex morality but at a level that is accessible to children. The writers seem to believe in children's ability to understand more than their often given credit for. It's refreshing. The head writer for this show, Aaron Ehaz, also created a more recent show for Netflix, The Dragon Prince. That is one of my favorites shows of all time for some of the same reasons. They do storytelling very well.
