You have to watch mononoke princess next ! I love gibli, every movie it’s full of wonders , I must admit it kinda hurt to watch it dubbed 😅 they changed so much, but I also feel like they also explained a lot more, maybe they were afraid it wouldn’t make sense if you don’t know a bit of Japanese folklore, idk, it feels a little like understimating the audience too. Anyway loved watching it with you again 💕 it’s a movie that lets me discover something new every time I watch it again

I know you loved the dubbed voice actors, but I'd recommend rewatching in the original Japanese at least once, it does loose something in the translation that you dont get here. Also if you can find it, watch The Kingdom of Dreams & Madness documentary. Its about the studio, how they come up with ideas and how they hand draw the animations. In all Ghibli movies you'll find a lot of Japanese culture and Shinto beliefs (the spirits, statues, gateways ect), all have a big element of humans impact on nature and the environment. Which Spirited Away really has with the stink/river spirit being clogged up with human fly tipping and Haku being a great lake that was filled in and built over, displacing the spirit

Len’s voice actress is Meg from Hercules lol and that’s all I can hear 😭

Princess Mononoke was always my favorite too! With Castle in the Sky coming in as a strong second. I always found Spirited Away to be scary as a kid 😅

I was told once that in many Japanese films focus on the emotions/feelings of the character and let that move the movie along, while western (or at least American movies) are plot focused and I think this movie really showcases that. Stuff certainly happens and has a storyline but it’s really focused on the growth and emotion which makes the plot rather than the plot making the growth and emotion … if I described that well 🤔 My absolute favorite is Princess Mononoke. One of my favorite movies of all time honestly. Stunning visuals and probably a bit heavier on the ‘plot’ side though still has that Japanese movie feeling to it and very heavy on nature and animals which always increases my interest in something. Lol but my main attachment to it is it’s wonderful depiction of the layers and complicated nature of humans and their choices/way they are

anytime i watch this i'm just reminded that the woman who voices Lin also does Meg in Disney's Hercules lol

Amber

off topic sorry but the Stranger things videos are missing . I just finished season 3 and now it's gone. so are these and others not available forever? Was enjoying them. please if anyone has an answer will be glad to hear from you.

Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki films are such a comfort place. They’re so beautiful and even though they can be heavy with their content, they’re so feel-good.

Heather

I'm with you. Howl's is my favorite of all time. But this is still pretty feel-good. <3

Iva Morris

no rush or anything but just wanted to let you know, i started watching your squid game reactions and the last two videos don’t seem to be working? maybe it has something to do with vimeo 🤷‍♀️

I remember watching this movie when I was a kid and being terrified of it. I revisited a couple of years ago and loved it so much. It's pure comfort (and it's still kinda scary tbh). I love the way they take time with each passing moment and you get to feel so present and immersed in it. I recommend When Marnie Was There, I loved that one as well. Also, I lost it with the Hillary Clinton lmaooo

I'm here for a Studio Ghibli series. I love them so much, and it's hard to choose a favorite. I really hope you watch more of them.

OMG, yes!!!! Please watch more Studio Ghibli movies!!! Howl's Moving Castle is my favorite!💜

Can you believe Jungkook’s childhood dream was to be Haku? He mentioned in an interview that when he was in first grade, he thought ‘I must be Haku when I grow up!’ because Haku was so cool and could turn in to a dragon lol

One of my favorite movies of all time honestly. This and The Cat Returns were my entire childhood, I was (and still am) so in love with these movies. I'm always surprised that apparently most kids got scared of this growing up, but I don't think I ever was tbh. I was more so fascinated and Haku was one of my favorite characters growing up .

What a damn movie, this was a lovely surprise! Everyone has their personal faves when it comes to Ghibli, but the most popular answers are definitely either Howl or Spirited Away (I fall on the side of the latter, but make no mistake Howl is a fantastic movie!). Kiki's Delivery Service, Ponyo, Arietty, Princess Mononoke and The Cat Returns are all beautiful, iconic, whimsical Ghibli productions and I'm excited to see if you continue this journey, wherever you go!

@beth I'm exactly the same actually, and I think Ghibli definitely have the most consistent/best dubs in anime! Spirited Away is the first movie I ever remember watching, and I have seen bits of Ghibli movies in Japanese since but since the dubs are so good in comparison to other animes that it just feels very right in my own language (maybe with the exception of Princess Mononoke?). Any anime *series* and it's best in its original language, but I think maybe the Studio takes extra care with its casting for voice actors out of respect to Miyazaki's great Disney influence. Even though aesthetically and thematically they are incredibly Japanese, you can definitely feel the Western influence on the movies, so it would make sense to me that they'd cast so many prominent/good names for these dubs (Liam Neeson, Christian Bale, Susan Egan, Jean Simmons, Patrick Stewart, Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman, Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamill...!)

Eefa

As a kid this gave me nightmares of my parents turning into pigs 😭😭

Vanessa

Is the score different because it is a dubbed version? Or am just imaging it? ok let that go. let's enjoy the journey .

Nadilynn

i get u about the nostalgia part! i grew up watching ghibli english dubbed so i tend to be more biased toward it and can only ever rewatch the films with dub as a result lol. i tend to forget not everyone has the same experience 😭

Beth

Ok you’re watching the English dub😅 I always watch things with the original audio, unless I grew up watch a Disney movie dubbed then it’s because of nostalgia.. but I’ll survive lol
