I think it is interesting to keep in mind who her muse was for each song: Only Living Girl in LA - Marilyn Monroe Ego - Dolores O'Riordan (of the Cranberries) Dog Years - P.J. Harvey Letter to God (1974) - Cher Panic Attack- Stevie Nicks The End - Joni Mitchell I Believe in Magic - Linda Rondstadt Letter to God (1983) - Bruce Springsteen Hometown - Dolly Parton I Never Loved You - Kate Bush Darwinism - David Bowie Lonely is the Muse - Amy Lee (of Evanescence) Arsonist - Fiona Apple Life of the Spider - Tori Amos Hurt Feelings - Halsey Lucky - Britney Spears Letter to God (1998) - Aaliyah The Great Impersonator - Bjork For me, Halsey's P.J. Harvey homage jumped out immediately. It sounds a lot like P.J.'s song "This Mess We're In." Likewise, "Letter to God (1983)" reminds me a lot of "I'm on Fire." I enjoyed "The Great Impersonator," but I can't say it evokes the spirit of Bjork for me. There were several women who put out amazing, challenging albums this year, and I'm so pleased that we all get to enjoy one more.

2024-11-03 18:45:43 +0000 UTCthis album broke me ngl… I’ve always loved halsey and followed her since debut. even before she officially released music we were tumblr mutuals 💀 she posted a lot of poems as ashley and used them in her future releases and I love how she did it again for some songs on this album. despite how open she is in her songs I always think we don’t know much about her private life. then she releases new music and its almost shocking how honest and vulnerable she gets… I also feel like everyone has that one special song on this project that just hits the hardest. for me its “arsonist”.. the song makes me so devastatingly sad for her. being chronically ill and having to live through it with her ex aka a “narcissistic liar” as she calls him… the song is creepy and sad and is one of my favorites but I cant listen to it everyday like “ego” “lonely is the muse” or “panic attack” overall her most honest and niche project. and thats a crazy statement considering “If i cant have love i want power” was already all of that and more. she really wrote this album for herself and I feel like music like this doesn’t come around often these days. especially from “pop stars” like halsey herself. also… im never killing a spider again.

2024-11-03 04:02:46 +0000 UTCAlso just fyi I'm not there yet but 'the great impersonator' is the final track, 'alice of the upper class' is part of a bonus series that was added recently, I think their gearing up to release a full deluxe version soon, yeah so that's why it might feel outta place, you should deffo react to the other bonus tracks when they're released on streaming, they're so good!!
