You always seem to really understand where he's coming from Michael, and I love to see you breaking it all down. I love this new sound, and I love that he put this out for himself, friends, and family without worrying about chart performance. It's one of the best albums of the year for me. He's said recently that he doesn't totally relate to some of these songs anymore so I'm hoping that means that he's healing.

As others said, Shawn talked at length about the stories behind the song The Mountain in his interview with Zane Lowe. If you haven’t viewed them yet, you may want to also check out all the videos Shawn put out on his YT page with behind the scenes glimpses of making the album in the studio. Also, check out the live versions of Nobody Knows and Heart of Gold from The Clubhouse, which was the very first performance Shawn did of the album for fans in a secret listening session before the music was released. He tells more stories and the live arrangements of these songs are out of this world. You’ll be blown away, I’m sure. So, yeah, give yourself the gift of watching all those videos related to the new music. They show even more of Shawn’s heart and his journey. It’s even more amazing when you know that he was not even sure if he would ever make music again after he canceled the Wonder tour in 2022. He talks about that a bit in his interview with John Mayer in Interview Magazine. I’m guessing you’ll appreciate reading that as well. If you were so inclined, it might be lovely to see you react to some of the behind the scenes and live videos related to this album. It’s been four years since Wonder, so those of us who love Shawn as much as you would be happy to share that experience with you. Either way, sending you love and peace. I've stanned him for so many years now and saw everything that he went through, honestly after the tour cancellation there was a point where I thought that he wouldn't come back, so I'm insanely proud and happy to see him doing what he loves the most again and that he's in a better place and healing. Answering your question, heart of gold is about a childhood friend who passed away when they were teens, Shawn never really processed his death, but it hit him while he was making this album, it's such a beautiful song, definitely in my top 5 favs

2024-11-15 22:25:49 +0000 UTCHeart of gold is about his friend who unfortunately passed away when shawn was 18 or 19 I believe. He said in his family and friends movie that he didn’t really process his death until the making of this album, and this song is a letter to him.
