Zatanna stared intently at the boy that floated
over her head— picking up books from the shelves and putting them back. He seemed to be searching for something but was not succeeding.
He seemed too endorsed in his search to realise that she had been standing there for quite a while now.
As he looked through the upper shelves and couldn't find the book that he was looking for, he descended to the ground to look for it.
As he landed, he saw her standing there and that made him take a step back.
"Oh, pardon me. I didn't see you there."
Zatanna was a little annoyed by his lack of consciousness but she hid her displeasure as the boy seemed to be the one that she was supposed to look after.
"It's alright." She said while giving him a smile.
"I believe you are my nanny?" He asked. "Considering you were able to enter the mansion without anyone stopping you, that seems to be the most plausible reason."
"I am. I got special instructions from Dr. Fate to look after you."
She said as she examined Lucien. 'He seems too old to have a nanny but the fact that he was flying means that he is a supernatural being and Fate would have never chosen me to look after him otherwise.'
As she was judging Lucien, Lucien was doing the same with her.
'A magician and a strong one at that. But her aura is far less domineering than Fate.' He thought. 'Quite interesting.'
Lucien gave Zatanna a smile. "Forgive me for not introducing myself. My name is Lucien and I will be in your care. And since you have been chosen by Fate, I believe you have already told about my story."
Zatanna nodded as she remembered the contents of a letter.
'The boy is special but lacks common sense. Help him understand the good of this place but do not offend him. That is a warning.'
The content was quite simple but equally vague. The letter gave her the information that the boy was special with high authority and so she couldn't offend him. And he seemed to not be from here hence the lack of common sense.
But that was all she had to work with.
'That's why I hate that bastard Fate…' She sighed internally as it was not the first time that Fate had given her the bare minimum of information to work with.
But what she didn't know was that Fate was forbidden from giving her much information this time around.
"Zatanna Zatara, a sorceress and your nanny from now on." She said while maintaining her smile. 'He is too old for a nanny so I am basically his caretaker.'

She is gorgeous, far more so than the maids of this mansion. And that's saying something considering the maids were handpicked by father.
Her dress is questionable to say the least but I am not complaining.
"I was given a basic summary that you were new to this place and needed help with its culture."
I see… So, Fate omitted almost every detail. Not that I mind but it would have been better if she was given a little more information.
"Since you are a sorceress, how much do you know about different dimensions?"
My question made her put on a toothy grin.
"Space-Time magic and dealing with creatures from other dimensions is my speciality." She answered. "So, I know quite a bit."
Now it makes sense that Fate chose her. Not to mention it makes explaining things far easier.
"Seems like Fate excluded a bit too much." I said in an intentional mumbling tone. "I will have to explain quite a bit, so get comfortable."
I pointed at the couch.
I appreciate the fact that father furnished the entire mansion with couches in almost every room.
"So, to put things simply… I am not from here, I am from another dimension."
This little revelation made her widen her eyes.
"Now it makes sense that Fate chose me." She mumbled and I nodded.
"It does. But since I am not originally from here, I needed someone to help me explore this place. My father had to leave for another dimension and since I didn't want to waste my youth in an empty dimension, I was sent here."
I left out the upper realms, my true heritage and other important things as revealing those would be stupid.
"Empty dimensions… I have heard of such dimensions and the fact that beings born there often go insane because of solitary." She looked at me in surprise. "It's a surprise that you managed to live in that place for so long."
"Well, father was also stuck there so I wasn't totally alone. But that's pretty much my story."
"You must be quite special for Fate to send me." She smirked and even without trying, she looked seductive. "So, you are not going to explain that part?"
I laughed. "Unfortunately not. Maybe in the future but not yet."
There was no point in babbling about being Lucifer's son.
She furrowed her eyebrows for a second but ultimately gave up. "Fair."
"Well then. Should we discuss your pay?"
That made her perk up. "Sure."
Now, what's a good pay for a caretaker?
I stared at her once more. She was a sorceress so she should definitely earn more than the normal folks.
"How does twenty thousand dollars a month sound?"
That made her widen her eyes. "Pardon?"
"Is that too little? I can do twenty-five. That should be a fair price." I hummed. "Do you accept?"
.
.
.
"Yes!"
Well, that was easy.

Fate frowned as he stared at the Metropolitan High. Floating in the sky with Lucien's admittance papers, he sighed at himself.
When he informed Lucien about Metropolitan High, he forgot to consider one simple detail.
The students that studied there.
Heroes.
He forgot to mention the heroes.
He cursed at himself for forgetting such an important detail.
Metropolitan High was the school where most of the teenage heroes studied. Batgirl, Supergirl, Robin, Speedy, Kid Flash, Aqua Lad, Wonder Girl… were just a few of them.
And amongst them were villains as well. Terra, Jinx, Seymour and many more.
Fate knew each of their identities, his powers made him see through each of their disguises and that also included the identities of the older heroes and villains. But since he was not involved in fighting them and was mostly responsible for protecting earth from beings of hell and other dimensions— he didn't bother with those heroes.
The only times he associated with them was when they got tangled in dimensional travels and demonic rituals.
He knew how prideful heroes and villains were. And worse than them were the teenage heroes and villains.
He feared that if someone offended Lucien, the boy would retaliate. And that would start a fight between the kids… And if somehow Lucien was hurt.
All hell would break loose.
He couldn't disclose Lucien's identity. So, he could only inform the Devil's son about them. It was a bad choice but still better than letting the world get destroyed.
"I can only hope that the kids would have a little self-control…" He sighed. "If not, it will be a big problem."
