DC: The Sorcerer System Chapter 14

Chapter 14: College ain't too Bad

[June Moone]

June was not used to being around so many people, at least not after the change that she went through. College was more of a chore for her, something that she had to complete in order to score a good job in the future. She was not as free spirited as the other heroes and villains of the school -yes she knew that there were heroes and villains hiding in the school and they were not very subtle, which surprised her since they still managed to stay hidden from the public eye- and she had to look out to not get noticed by the wrong people.

Her powers were troublesome to say the least, mostly because if she went overboard, it would release something that she would rather prefer to keep hidden.

“Class, we will be welcoming a new student today and I hope you all will welcome him with open arms.”

It was way past the time for new admissions which made her wonder what a new kid was doing at this time of the year.

‘They didn’t even say that he was a transfer student.’

It was weird but she decided not to think about it. Not like he was going to talk to her, they never did.

She didn’t notice nor did she pay attention to the guy that walked into the classroom. But she noticed a lot of gasps from the girls and guys alike which made her wonder if it was a foreigner.

She sat towards the corner end of the classroom, away from the loud bunch.

“Hello.”

She heard the voice speak and surprisingly, she liked it. It was a deep yet soothing voice.

“My name is Lucien Dawns and I hope we can get along well.”

The awes and the gasps finally raised her curiosity to see who the guy was. From the end of the corner, she peeked at the boy. And she immediately understood why the crowd of students were so interested in the new arrival.

‘He is handsome.’ She thought, staring at the blonde boy. ‘But… something is off about him.’

She couldn’t put her finger on it however she felt something amiss about him.

“Well, there is a seat to the right.” The teacher pointed towards a seat that was a little far from her. “Why don’t you take it?”

The boy looked at the room and the available options but decided to settle for the one that the teacher decided on,

“Alright.”

He casually walked towards the seat as the girls stared at him. And it would be a lie to say that she didn’t do the same. The only one that she could think of right off her head… that was in his league was probably Grayson, one of the kids that she never spoke to. And just like every other girl, she admired his good looks.

He passed by her seat, giving her a nod and a smile as he went to take his seat. And again, she felt a weird sensation.

‘What is wrong with me…’

[Lucien Lemuel Morningstar]

A magic user…

Maybe I underestimated just how many supernatural beings are in here. The essence of magic was faint but I could feel it from her.

But thankfully most of the other kids felt normal.

So then, who is she?

<<Devil’s Eyes>>

{{Name: June Moone}}

{{Title: The Enchantress}}

{{Tier: 5 (Grade E)}}

{{Race: Human (Possessed)}}

{{Ability: Mana Manipulation}}

 {{Class: Sorceress}}

This was… impressive.

Excluding Zatanna and Fate, she was the only human that seemed to be above tier 6.

{{Quest: Befriend the Enchantress.}}

{{Reward: 1× Escape Rope}}

{{Additional Quest: Find the truth about her powers.}}

{{Additional Reward: Enchanted Sword (Rare)}}

Would you look at that…

The rewards don't appeal to me that much but they still seem sweet.

'Accept'

{{Quest Accepted}}

There doesn't seem to be a time limit, which is pretty good.

"The next is gym class, so everyone get ready with your gym clothes."

Huh?

I didn't know that colleges had gym classes. I thought college was just a place to study, well it doesn't matter. Physical activities are more preferable for me.

[Room B-204 (Department of Psychology)]

"Everyone get ready for gym class."

Gym class was taken together with two other classes. So, it was always three classes together. This was mostly done to ensure a competitive environment during the activities. Each class wanted to prove that they were the best and for that they worked hard.

Many thought of this as genius while many believed it was a total waste of time.

Richard Grayson was the former and Barbara Gordon was the latter.

"And you still don't think it's fun?"

Both of them were extremely athletic and if they wanted, one of them alone could take down everyone on the other team with ease. However, while Richard preferred a fun and entertaining challenge, Barbara liked a more smarter but effective way.

"Isn't it better to set another goal… like additional marks on a test if they do well on the gym class?"

Richard knew that she had a point, a pretty good one actually but he knew that she forgot to consider one very important factor.

"Not everyone cares about marks like we do, Barb."

Richard didn't pay as much attention to studies as Barbara however he was still an elite student. One of the three toppers of his class to be precise, the last one being Kara who called in sick.

Richard's statement made Baraba pause for a second. "Maybe you are right."

Richard shook his head. "The geniuses always look over the small things." He smiled. "Well it doesn't matter, but we should reach the class before the instructor arrives. He has a habit of nitpicking."

"True."

It hadn't been long since both of them expressed their feelings. However, neither of them were certain about forming a relationship for the time being. They flirted, enjoyed each others company and were extremely close yet they were afraid of committing.

Both of them had their issues, their secrets and their insecurities. They couldn't reveal their secrets to one another and that made them afraid. They feared if the other person found out it would destroy whatever they had…

And neither of them wanted that.

A relationship when both the partners were untruthful never lasted.

"Are you going to continue astrophysics?" Richard asked. "I feel like you are forcing yourself with all these subjects."

Barbara smiled a little. "I wanted to get into astrophysics just never got the chance before. So, it's alright I can manage. Besides, it's something that I enjoy." She noticed that Richard was doing his best to adjust his pace to match hers. This made her smile on the inside. “And thank you for caring about me, Dick.”

Richard chuckled. “Don’t think too much about it, Barbs.”

She didn’t, but she noticed the little things he did for her and to her those little things meant a lot.

Sometimes she just wanted to say fuck it and tell him everything about her… But she couldn’t. For her sake and for his.

“Hm?”

She looked to find a curious Richard staring towards a bunch of girls flocking around a boy. They couldn’t see his face as he stood with his back facing towards them.

“Is that a new kid?” Richard asked to which Barbara hummed.

“I don’t know. Maybe it is.”

Richard chuckled. “Well if it was Kara, she would have known. She knows of every boy in the college.”

And it was true. Kara didn’t particularly hold interest in any of them but she knew of all the boys in her college.

But they didn’t have to wait to see his face as the gym instructor decided to call for everyone.

“Good Morning everyone.” He said, garnering the attention of everyone around. “I hope you are ready for today’s activity.”

Richard and Barbara noticed the boy turning towards the instructor, which allowed them to see his face.

“I can see why the girls were flocking around him.” Richard rolled his eyes as he saw the guy. However it is because of the predictability of the girls rather than being jealous of the blonde.

“Mhm.” Barbara agreed but unlike the other girl, she wasn’t interested in him.

“So, our activity for today will be… basketball!” The instructor said excitedly however, the class didn’t seem excited in the least.

“How unexpected.” Richard sighed. “I guess it will be never anything other than basketball and dodge ball.”

“I guess…”

Not like she cared either way.
