"There are quite a lot of pathways," Jay was worried, "How will we make it out of here?"
Kento squatted down, and closed his eyes.
{Wind Manipulation}
Kento's control over the wind had improved so much recently, that he was able to focus to make it flow to long distances without losing control.
And that was exactly what he did.
He made tiny torrents of wind blow towards each pathway, getting them to move as far as possible.
Many of those pathways, however, ceased to produce a breeze after a short distance, indicating their closure and lack of any exit.
Kento kept going a bit longer, to check if any of them had openings.
For most of them, they closed off after traveling for a bit longer, but finally he found two pathways; both interconnected to one another.
"We will take the third path," Kento smiled before getting back up, "Or we can take the fourth, both of them are connected."
The trio was beyond surprised at Kento's ability, "Are you a scout?"
Kento chuckled, "Just an average mage with a few tricks up his sleeves."
Kento could see it in their eyes that they were impressed by his abilities, especially Riley. And Jay also liked it that he was helping them out.
However, he saw how Anita was still a bit wary of him.
'It will be difficult to complete the task because of her.'
But there was still time and he knew he would figure something out.
"How long have you been using magic, Riley?" He asked, wondering the usual age for dabbling into these arts.
"I started when I turned ten," She said, "Some start at 12 but they discovered my aptitude early that's also the reason I was made to start early."
"Riley passed the magic academy with the highest score," Jay grinned, "She is a genius, I tell ya!"
Riley blushed which made Kento smile, "That is nice."
"What about you?" Anita asked, "You seem to be the same age as us but you can already use wandless magic."
"Hmm… Let's see," Kento looked up as they walked, "I think I learnt I had the ability to use magic when I was eight."
This made every single one of them baffled.
"But I was told not to use my magic as my body was too weak to handle magic," He continued to make the story on the go, "So, I started using magic once I turned ten. And for the two years before that, I was so curious about magic that I read a lot of books about it. Trying to find as much information about it as I could. And possibly it was that curiosity that led me to reach this level."
He smiled, "But that's pretty much how I started using magic. There are quite a few parts missing in that story, but I hope you know it's not possible to elaborate everything at this time."
"Yeah…" Anita nodded, amazed by his story, "That is true."
"Eight years old…" Riley repeated Kento's words, feeling depressed at being two years behind Kento.
"Don't worry about it, I am just an anomaly, a weirdo that happened to be loved a little by magic," He smiled, "Or that's what I have been called."
"Hey!" Jay frowned, "You are a great guy, Kento. Although I had known you for only a little, you seem like a really nice guy."
"Y-Yeah, don't be affected by what others say!" Riley tried to comfort Kento.
"People say things because they are jealous, don't let that get to–"
Just as Anita was about to comfort him as well, Kento immediately launched his hand towards her face, before grabbing a speeding arrow and stopping it from hitting her straight in the face.
"Anita!" Jay and Riley screamed in horror.
The impact was strong, as the moment Kento caught the arrow, the wind blew Anita's hair back.
"T-Thank you…" She said, finally processing that she triggered a trap.
"Careful," Kento frowned, "This place seems to be filled with such traps."
Kento's reflexes were far higher than those of anyone else present, but even so, it was his activated {Wind Manipulation} that immediately alerted him the moment the arrow was shot.
"Riley, check if the ground has traps, I'll handle the walls and the ceiling."
Riley nodded and used one of her spells.
"Sando Forceo!"
A strong force swept in, bringing sand with it and laying it over the ground.
As the sand got on the floor, the floor became heavy and immediately triggered the traps, sprouting spikes from the ground.
"Good job," Kento commended, before dealing with the other traps.
{Freeze Breath}
In an instant, he blew a strong breath towards the walls and the ceiling, freezing them instantly and forming a thick layer of ice around them.
This impressed the trio greatly.
"That's a high level ice spell!" Riley gasped at the display.
"Using this skill on the ground would have made it impossible to walk, that's why I asked you to handle the floor traps," Kento said, moving forward.
The two girls were beyond impressed but Jay who had already walked ahead seemed worried.
"Err… Guys?" He gulped, "Get ready. We might have to fight a little."
Because in front of them was a hoard.
A hoard of–
"Goblins…"
Monsters that Kento noticed way earlier than Jay.
…
…
Goblins were a common monster type in any fantasy story, especially if it was one about dungeons.
Kento wasn't impressed seeing them, especially when he felt their presence.
It was barely on the level of the lowest level of devil foot soldiers.
'They can get crushed by even the weakest of the low class devils…'
The goblins were terribly weak, however he was aware that the general level around him was of Low Class to Middle Class.
But this was not a test of strength.
"Jay and Anita at the front, Riley help them with buffs and debuffs!" He said, immediately moving to the back, "I'll cover and make sure that they don't reach Riley."
None of them questioned Kento or his orders as till now everything Kento had done had helped them and surpassed their skills greatly. So, him taking leadership felt natural to them.
As for Kento, he sensed the goblins even before he sensed the traps but decided to let the scene play out as it was supposed to.
After all, trust can be built on a battlefield easier than in a debate.
And it was great for his quest as well.
<<Quest: Complete the Trial of the Tennō while obtaining the trust of the survivors: 2/3

He could guess quite well who that person that didn't completely trust him was.
Seeing a goblin rush towards Anita, Kento made sure to show off.
"Anita duck!"
With that, he shot an arrow made entirely of water at the goblin that impaled the green monster through the stomach.
Anita was amazed to see that Kento had incredible accuracy.
"I used my spell and scouted the area!" Kento said, "There is an exit in this room. Once we get rid of these goblins, we can escape from here!"
"Wahhhh!" With a roar, Jay slash down two goblins in half, "With you around, we can easily escape this place, Kento!"
{Blue Flare}
Making sure not to break his belief, Kento vapourized five goblins in a single attack.
And while he could get rid of all of them in one go, he was still holding back to adjust to the trio's level.
"Kento!" Anita shouted, "Cover me!"
This was all he was waiting for, as he saw Anita rushing into the goblin army with her sword.
"Arhhhhh!"
She slashed through them one by one, taking their heads. With a massive grin on his face, Kento made sure to vapourize the leftover goblins that escaped from Jay and Anita.
Kento was ecstatic, as what he wanted had happened.
The moment Anita asked him to cover her back, he got the message he was waiting for.
<<Quest Completed!>>
<<Quest: Complete the Trial of the Tennō while obtaining the trust of the survivors: 3/3

<<Rewards Obtained: Points ×600, [Lock×1]>>
With the completion of the question, Kento knew that there was no reason to delay any more.
With around twelve goblins remaining, Kento yelled.
"Everyone! Get down!"
There was no reason to drag this any longer, and as such he decided to use his skill.
{Power of Destruction}
An orb of pure destructive energy appeared right in front of his fingers, sending shivers down the spine of the goblins and the trio alike at the sight.
"Begone."
And with that, Kento released the orb which shot straight forward, swallowing everything on its path– rocks, water, goblins– everything.
And as the orb hit the wall, the wall crumbled down before the particles were swallowed up by the orb.
This revealed light –natural sunlight– to the people for the first time in a long time.
"W-We–" Riley felt her eyes tearing up.
"It's the outside…" Anita was frozen up by the sheer happiness.
"WE MADE IT OUT!" And the happiest of them all was Jay.
Or so it would seem, but if there was one person happier than them all.
It was Kento.
