Taylor Swift - Reputation (Full Album)

I can't believe how much time I spent on this Album!! Taylor is unreal

Comments

Seeing this for the first time and had to pause during your reaction to End Game because I am getting HYPE right alongside you lol -- thank god for people who don't temper their enthusiasm.✊

ThisIsMeTryinggg

hi there. coming back here so that I can listen to reputation without giving money to scooter and vicariously live through Bev and pretend to listen to it for the first time again till rep tv comes out 😬✋🏾

Bee

Just found you and DELIGHTED. Everything Has Changed is one of my all-time favorite songs ever! I gotta go to bed but I could NOT wait to see you react to these! Looking forward to binging your stuff! SIR I CANNOT STAY UP WATCHING THIS AND YOUR REP TOUR 3 PARTER yesssssssssnoooooooo. (I'm having a blast watching this, thank you so much). King of My Heart is my favorite (and my favorite from Rep tour actually! Her joy with that dance partner is everything).

Darsy Smith

I love your reaction

Juan Otero

Also I’m new here, I love your reactions so much <3 found you for Julie&TP lol 😻

Kelly Belher

The A-Team is definitely a nod to Ed, she actually invited him in to show him the song when she was still working on it ‘cause she was so excited by the A-Team thing and when they were there she was like “do you want to write a verse?” And that’s how the collaboration started <3

Kelly Belher

I’ve been a swiftie since day one, and when i first heard Rep I didn’t like it. All the instrumentation sort of distracted me from the lyrics I think and I was so upset that I didn’t like it. Then I sat down with the lyrics and listened again a few times and really picked it apart and it has become one of my favourite albums. It’s so great.

Stephanie Lechelt

Fun facts taylor described this album as two in one ready for it…?- …so it goes as the first half and gorgeous till the end as the second half. Almost the entire album is about Joe, aside from idsb, lwymmd, getaway car and tiswwchnt. Actual since rep almost every love song has been about him, all of lover was inspired by him as were invisible string and peace on folklore and willow, gold rush, long story short and evermore from well, evermore. The final lyrics in New Year’s Day “ hold on to the memories they will hold onto you.” And “ please don’t ever become a stranger whose laugh I could recognize anywhere.” We’re lyrics Taylor wrote in her diary years before this album came out but never found a place to use them.

Monica Torres

OMG this is so fun but I CAN NOT wait for you to listen and react to RED. That is the album in her discography when she started jumping more into experimenting and toying with pop ideas. Just an incredible album all around. I'd recommend you listen to that album first before watching the Reputation Tour!!! I know (and I've watched) you've already reacted to 1989 too so you're good there ;) That way you'll have more songs under your belt to appreciate live.

Sarah Walter

You absolutely HAVE to watch the reputation stadium tour on Netflix. you're going to lose your mind

Katie

Please watch party the tour on Netflix! Omg please! Also, the only song I think she didn’t cover was So It Goes.... it played while everyone exited.

Tiffany

There are actually Behind the scenes videos for almost every song on rep explaining her creative process behind this album. It‘s worth checking out!

Lizzie Zimmer

I’ve never listened to her because of all the drama surrounding her. This was my first listen. Thanks for holding my hand through it, lol. That was incredible.

April Wier

Some things no one mentioned here yet... Maybe you already know them so sorry if you do. Yes, the baby at the beginning of Gorgeous is one of R. Reynolds and B. Lively's kids, but another fun fact: Taylor used names of all of their children in the song Betty: James, Inez and, of course, Betty. That sonic and instrumental changes in King Of My Heart Taylor did on purpose. The beginning is soft and she sings about how she's alone. The song progresses and she sings about how she met Joe and how he changed her life. The chorus is like the highlight of the song and she sings about him being her everything. This album is very loved by the fans but kinda underrated by the critics. The fans are still furious it wasn't even nominated for any of the Grammys. Seriously can't wait to see you react to the Rep stadium tour! I'm so bummed I wasn't able to attend it because it's hard to imagine she's ever gonna top it... But on the other hand she's Taylor fucking Swift so you never know!!

Andreja

Side note i just thought that maybe you should react to her albums before the reputation tour? Just because half of the set list is stuff from her old albums so having heard them first might help you appreciate some of the old stuff and mashups more

Elisha Li

So excited to hear you react to the reputation tour and her old albums. All Too Well (track 5 !!) from the album Red is probably one of most loved Taylor songs of all time. The lyrics are amazing. I watched another youtuber react to Taylor’s albums and he put it perfectly: 1989 is the sunset/evening, Reputation is the middle of the night, Lover is the sunrise, and Folklore/Evermore is the morning.

Elisha Li

42:06 “ how was she not the greatest artist of the last 10 years or so?” Coincidentally, she was given the artist of the decade award by the American music Awards

Elisha Li

"So it goes" is not on the Reputation Tour on Netflix, at least not live. It's playing at the end.

Susie

The videos from this album are amazing and I agree diving into Halsey would be so worth it. The videos for Reputation are so sick I love them!

Jennifer Marriott

Hi, Mike, how are you? I love this album, it's my favorite from Taylor. Folklore and Evermore are beautiful in terms of lyricism, but to me, Reputation is the perfect mixture of kick ass melodies and extraordinary songwritting, she truly paints a perfect picture in your mind with sounds and words full of metaphors and alegories. My personal top songs are: Dancing with our hands tied Delicate King of my heart Dress I think it's because they're very synth pop, which I adore, and she does it so well, with sick beats, bass and drops you wouldn't expect, but at the same time, that make perfect sense with the feeling she's trying to evoke. And at the same time, they're the most vulnerable tracks on this album. Also, I would recommend that you dive into Halsey discography if you want. She's also a great storyteller, I love her music. I love her first two albums "Badlands" and "Hopeless Fountain Kingdom" I can't decide which of the two is better, but I think is better if you start on the first so you can see her growth. Apologies in advance if my grammar and spelling aren't great, english it's not my first language.

Alia

Great reivew, I don't mind the longer video at all! Can't wait for miss American doc as I think it will help you understand this album better.

Liz N

love ur videos

Alanna Smith

Loooveed this, was so excited to finally see your reaction to this! You are going to LOVE the Reputation Stadium Tour (it's on Netflix). It was one of the best live shows I've ever been to in my life! Also the 'Look What You Made Me Do' music video is one of her most viewed videos and it has tonnes of easter eggs in it - the visuals are incredible. "The old Taylor can't come to the phone right now" refers to her rebirth after going dormant from the public eye for three years between 1989 & Reputation. There's lots of references throughout the album to the media/general public view of her and how she used to cop slander for dating 'too many' people as well as the whole Kim/Kanye feud, and the Tour really represents this in such an amazing way. Can't wait to watch you experience it!

Cait

I just want to echo the sentiments from the comments above about LIVING for longer videos for Taylor. Watching people discover discography is the closest I can come to experiencing these albums for the first time again. So feel free to keep them longer if you wish. You’re the only person I’ve seen take time to appreciate all the intricate details. Secondly, I’d love to see your reaction to the stadium tour/miss Americana! As always, thank you for sharing your Taylor journey with us 💖

Cynthia Stone

You have to check out the reputation tour on Netflix! It’s so incredible. Even better than the album. The only song she doesn’t sing from this album on tour is so it goes. And she does songs from other albums as well!

Katey

all of the love songs (and references to a significant other) on this album are about the same person aka her current bf Joe (with the exception of getaway car. That one is about a rebound relationship before she met Joe: if you listen to Long Story Short from evermore, it will make sense because "wrong guy" in LSS = rebound guy in getaway car).

sai

the only song from this album that was not on the set list for the reputation tour is "so it goes..." but there is a segment on that tour where she performs one song from her entire discography acoustically and one night she chose to perform "so it goes..." Dancing with our hands tied was on the set list BUT it was also performed acoustically

sai

I don’t know about anyone else, but I absolutely love the more in-depth album reviews. Especially when you love an artist as much as you clearly love Taylor. I’d probably sit through another hour of this tbh. Seeing people fall in love with things that I love is why I watch reaction videos. As far as I’m concerned you don’t have to worry about the length of the videos.

Jared

OMG! I’m already so excited picturing you reacting to the Reputation Stadium Tour! It’s gonna blow your mind!

Francisca Álvarez

I think people wanted you to listen to Reputation before watching the documentary because a lot of this album is reflected in the documentary in terms of her disappearing and what led her to that point. You should also listen and react to the reputation tour on Netflix its iconic. thank you for a great reaction :)

jane

You answered it like 2 seconds later 😂

Cynthia Stone

I'm not going to put any explanations in because I know plenty of people will but I'm so happy I woke up to this reaction this morning because it made my Monday. You pay such close attention to every intricate detail and could get the things she was accomplishing with the sound and the differences and I appreciate that so much. I'm glad you loved it as much as we all do and CANNOT wait for you to watch the reputation tour live because it is amazing and you'll be so hyped lol

Ariana Moskwa

Stopping the vid to answer your question about Look What You Made Me Do, it’s an interpolation of “Im too sexy for my shirt” she credited them on the song!

Cynthia Stone

The love songs on reputation are about her current boyfriend, British actor Joe Alwyn. they began dating in 2016 and that's when Taylor made reputation, so the love songs on the album are about him and their relationship beginning in 2016. so Ready For It, Delicate, Don't Blame Me, Dress, Call It What You Want, So It Goes, Dancing With Our Hands Tied, New Year's Day are all about one guy, her current boyfriend (they're still dating to this day). Joe is actually William Bowery. it's his pseudonym on folklore and evermore. so Taylor and him wrote Exile, Betty, Champagne Problems and Evermore. the Lover album is all about Joe as well. you were right about look what you made me do. they remixed "I'm Too Sexy" in the song. and she credited the "I'm Too Sexy" singers as songwriters in the Look What You Made Me Do" song. and yes, the music video for this song was epic. it broke the internet. because of what it's about. the song is about her feud with Kanye West. in 2015 Taylor and Kanye made up after the VMA's 2009 incident. then later Kanye made a song called "famous" with lyrics refering to Taylor: "I think me and Taylor might still have sex. I made that bitch famous" and Kanye called Taylor before releasing the song to get her approval of using the lyrics " I think me and Taylor might still have sex" and Taylor agreed to it but Kanye hasn't told her the "I made that bitch famous" lyric. after the song was released Taylor was about mad about the "bitch" lyric and wrote a post against it and in her 2016 album of the year acceptance speech Taylor said: "there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame, but, if you just focus on the work and you don't let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you're going you'll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there. And that will be the greatest feeling in the world" and to that Kim Kardashian released an edited video clip showing Taylor approving the lyric "I think me and Taylor might still have sex" to show the world that Taylor is lying and she did approve the song. so that video clip turned the whole internet and the world against Taylor calling her a liar, manipulative, a snake (which made Taylor make that the theme of the reputation era. she said "you call me a snake, a liar, a witch" well, i'll be that persona you all think of me and that is the reputation album. in 2016 everyone on the internet HATED Taylor. everything about her was mocked, she was blacklisted and had only her fans to defend her. now in 2020 the full video of Kanye and Taylor's phone call was leaked and it showed that Kanye didn't mention the lyric "I made that bitch famous" and that Taylor wasn't aware of that lyric at all. which brought it to the internet apologizing for Taylor for not believing her. 2016 was a horrible year for Taylor. everyone HATED her with passion. it was "cool" to hate her. I recommend reacting/watching her documentary on Netflix called "Miss Americana" where she talks lengthy about this time.

Tal

Brace yourself Michael, I was adding my thoughts to this note as I was watching so it’s a long one 😂 This album came at a time when the entire world hated her (hard to believe in 2021 but it was true) so the reason it’s so experimental is because she genuinely thought nobody was going to listen to it anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️ The first half of the album is a characterisation of her reputation, she becomes who everyone thought she was after Kim Kardashian and Kanye West released an edited video of an illegally recorded phone call (“friends don’t try to trick you, get you on the phone and mind-twist you) which made it seem as though she gave consent for him to reference her in a song (the full uncut video was leaked early 2020 and fully vindicated Taylor). In delicate she’s referencing the start of her relationship with Joe Alwyn (“Do the girls back home touch you like I do?” He’s her London Boy, the William Bowery who she’s written 4 songs with) and how she was anxious about whether their relationship could work based on her past relationship experiences and her reputation at that time. As you’ll see when you watch Miss Americana, between 1989 (the next Taylor album on your list) and reputation, Taylor completely disappeared. She deleted all of her social media posts, she didn’t do any interviews, there were no paparazzi photos of her, she just vanished. Then one day she posted videos of a snake (which Kim Kardashian had called her) on her social media and she dropped Look What You Made Me Do (“I rose up from the dead”) and the world stopped, it was a complete reset. She shed the goody-two-shoes, America’s Sweetheart image she’d made for herself and completely flipped (“The old Taylor can’t come to the phone because she’s dead” We all lost our minds). Also you were dead right about the chorus on that song, she sampled the melody from Right Said Fred’s too sexy because people said “all her songs sound the same, they’re so boring, she can only sing one note”, the anti-climactic drop from the pre-chorus into the chorus was a reference to how the media built up the Kimye drama and instead of playing into it and fighting back she just disappeared and didn’t give in to the build-up. The second half of the album comes back to the real Taylor instead of the media portrayal and her budding relationship with Joe during the writing of the album. The house she references in This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things and King Of My Heart (“Up on the roof with a schoolgirl crush”) is the house they both lived in on Cornelia Street (“Barefoot in the kitchen, sacred new beginnings that became my religion”) and It’s Nice To Have A Friend (“Light pink sky up on the roof sun sinks down, no curfew”) “GORGEOUS” “Was that a baby?” This actually Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s baby 😂 Also, there is a Reputation Stadium Tour movie on Netflix which you absolutely should watch (the live vocals are somehow better than the studio vocals, I don’t know how but she did it) but I think you should wait until you finish the albums because she does some throwback songs in there, most notably an acoustic version of All Too Well from the Red album and I think if you hear the acoustic version (8 years after the song was written and when she’s looking back on the situation) before you hear the original (like I say, it’s a track 5 and arguably her best song ever written) I think the swifties will have your head on a spike, they’re very strongly-opinioned on seeing live performances of All Too Well before you know the song. 😂 The only song from Reputation that doesn’t feature on the tour is So It Goes because that was one of the bonus songs which she didn’t perform at the show that was recorded (She performed All Too Well instead) but it does play over the credits at the end

Liam Mcfarlane

Thanks Michael, Reputation is actually my favourite Taylor album so this was a nice little birthday surprise 😂

Liam Mcfarlane

I really enjoyed this, nice reaction Mr B. 👍😁💗

Mandy Sherratt

Here's some pieces of Reputation's prologue: "Here's something I've learned about people. We think we know someone, but the truth is that we only know the version of them they have chosen to show us. [...] The point being, despite our need to simplify and generalize absolutely everyone and everything in this life, humans are intrinsically impossible to simplify. We are never just good or just bad. We are mosaics of our worst selves and our best selves. [...] I've been in the public eye since I was 15 years old. On the beautiful, lovely side of that, I've been so lucky to make music for living and look out into crowds of loving, vibrant people. On the other side of the coin, my mistakes have been used against me, my heartbreaks have been used as entertainment, and my songwriting has been trivialized as 'oversharing'. When this album comes out, gossip blogs will scour the lyrics for the men they can attribute to each song, as if the inspiration for music is as simple and basic as a paternity test. There will be slideshows of photos backing up each incorrect theory, because it's 2017 and if you didn't see a picture of it, it couldn't have happened right? Let me say it again, louder for those in the back... We think we know someone, but the truth is that we only know the version of them that they have chosen to show us. There will be no further explanation. There will be just reputation."

Gabriela B

This album came out after the general public "cancelled" her (it was a whole thing and she got a loooot of hate) and she disappeared from the public eye for a whole year. It is very different from everything she ever did before. The firsts songs aside from Delicate play with the persona the media created for her, the serial date girl who can get any man but they leave her because she's too crazy and clingy etc etc. The rest of the songs focus on how amidst all the chaos and her bad reputation she somehow was able to find a real love, who likes her for who she is! She's talking about Joe on most of these songs haha. When you watch Miss Americana you'll have a better understanding of all of this.

Gabriela B

There is the Reputation Stadium Tour on Netflix which is really cool and the whole album is actually about her current boyfriend Joe Alwyn who she also talked about in the Long Pond Studio Session. It's her first album about him.

anonym 1

the reputation stadium tour is available on netflix! i was there, it was iconic. the only track not played was so it goes, but she does play a lot of her earlier hits as well. definitely check out miss americana before you check out anything else with reputation because it'll give you a lot of insight into the stories she's telling throughout this album

grace

This album was released after a 3 year hiatus, and followed a period of serious self-doubt from the trolls online that led her to believe she was hated. Her introspection during that hiatus gave her the insight she needed (and anger) to write Reputation. Some of the songs here talk about a series of guys she "used" until she met her true love, Joe. She and Joe developed as a couple during that break and she followed up with Lover to celebrate that relationship. If you haven't already checked out the Netflix documentary Miss Americana, this will give you some insight as to her mental state and thought process during this period. You'll also see some of her creative process there. Thanks again for your analysis.

One advantage of insomnia is I get to catch a late night post from Beveraggi! Thanks, Michael! Taylor is my absolute favorite for the same reasons you love her.
