Super late to this video, but there is also a video with Shawn and John Mayer doing a mash up together of In Your Atmosphere and Mercy, and it’s magical.

2024-06-06 15:26:22 +0000 UTCYes you are right as far as the time frame of meeting Matthew and when he wrote the song. I don't know what I was thinking, and that's something I already knew. LOL! (Must have been the drugs after my surgery). However, as far as C's mother liking Matthew is concerned, yes she was a fan before they started dating, and yes she did like him, but she also thought he was not for her after they dated for a while, as per C herself.

Roses was written in 2016... when C didn't date Matthew at all... the songs about being rejected after confessing are Because I had you and When you're ready... I feel kind of bad about reacting to all of this, but there is so much incorrect info in your reactions it makes my head hurt.

He had the honor or basically restarting the concerts in 2018 since they stopped for a while, and I’m sure that you know what a privilege it is to be asked to perform for MTV. He was the youngest artist to have such an honor. I promise he does not disappoint. He was phenomenal!

It’s basically when Camila started dating Matthew Hussey and he spilled his feelings for her and she rejected him. And then his next album was basically all about that. When you watch his concert notice his focal point for his center stage. It’s a Rose reflective of the time he was going through and his special Rose, Camila. Everything is always about her!!!

It also has two songs from Handwritten, Stitches and Never Be Alone, but those are also on the Netflix concert so it won't be a spoiler. You can hear the MTV Unplugged as an album or watch the performances on YouTube. Also, I know you mentioned in a previous video about Shawn and Taylor having a collab or performing together and I'm not sure if anyone ever mentioned it, but there is indeed one of each. They performed There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back together at one of her concerts for the Reputation tour when Shawn was the special guest. The "collab" is the remix of Lover. Thought you might want to check those out.

2021-02-15 04:13:43 +0000 UTCWhen I heard "hold on" it honestly made me cry, but what i gathered from it is that it most likely was about being in the spotlight and the industry so young and being away from his friends and family. It was probably all new and scary to him and it was going by so fast. It seems like it's also just about life in general when you're that age is when you start to realize what life really is like and it's scary.

Seems like he wasn't fully in love with her , and knew he had to let her go . So this album definitely is alot of sadness about him ending a empty relationship and longing for another person (camila). I really can't wait for you to see the concert on Netflix, he is amazing as usual. The John mayer show he did was lots of fun and they sang goofy songs together and it shows his personality, and his at home concert with camila I hope you watch because it shows him and camila and how well they feed off eachother , i love that little concert and their other performances because you can truly see their friendship but also how well they mesh as partners in music and love .❤

2021-02-15 02:02:39 +0000 UTCYeah Shawn said a lot of things (not very convincingly) to cover his true feelings at the time in interviews, even in the self-titled era, but the stuff he said about Mercy in particular made me laugh out loud. That song is about love and to say it's about 'music' like he did, well it didn't sound true at the time, and now it is just hilarious.

2021-02-14 19:57:42 +0000 UTCalso up until wonder shawn's music was pretty sad. to my understanding this album has two themes a relationship ending because his career doesn't give him the time to invest in it (three empty words, honest ect) and then songs about someone he loves that's with someone else (ruin, treat you better ect). he said in interviews after the documentary that he talked about how he always wrote about camila that songs like that from when he was 17 were him being overdramatic because he heard that camila has a crush on someone else (camila had a crush on him during that time they were both so stupid lol)

I know what you did last summer was from Handwritten but there is a video and a few live performances... James Cordon . It’s fun to see baby Shawn & Camila . Also the together at home concert they did for Global Citizen was really good . A nice mix of great musicality and goofiness , I’m confident you would enjoy it . Keep up the good work 😊

2021-02-14 19:06:45 +0000 UTCilluminate actually came out it in 2016 with ruin being the opening track and the deluxe came out soon after that i think. spotify says 2017 because that's when there's nothing holding me back was added to the album. so he was actually 17/18 writing this album and that's why his voice is pretty different.

2021-02-14 18:41:23 +0000 UTCHe's talked about a lot of the songs from this period being inspired by Camila even though they don't fit the exact situation that he was in. He used his imagination and told stories that didn't necessarily happen. He directly confirmed Treat You Better in the documentary and Ruin in an interview. She wasn't even dating anyone. He just heard through the grapevine she was maybe interested in someone and went all dramatic with his lyrics. He said in an interview about Like This that he felt guilty about the lyric "she's not even drop dead gorgeous but she kills me anyway" because he meant that he fell for her soul, her personality, her being- not something superficial. Then he pointed out that she actually IS drop dead gorgeous. Haha. It's hard to interpret the songs through what he said about them at the time because he hadn't fully admitted to himself he was in love with Camila, and definitely wasn't going to publicly speak about her as an inspiration. In contrast, his songs on SM3 and especially Wonder are much more honest and directly about their relationship. He also had a relationship from back home when he first started out, and he had broken up with her not long before this album so that most likely inspired some of the songs like Three Empty Words.

2021-02-14 18:20:27 +0000 UTCSo, when this album came out, Shawn made very clear he had never been in love, maybe like, but not love yet and that he was looking forward to that. Also, Shawn has some extremely good co-writers in this album especially Teddy Geiger (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teddy_Geiger), who still works closely with him. Mendes said there were 2 meanings to Mercy, 1 is obviously love, but the other is anything you love or are passionate about, in his case music. If you watch the MV for it, that is the approach they took, which is why love it even more... Stitches (esp MV) is really well done too. This was a great way to start my day! Happy Valentines!
