I think it says a lot about her character that she chose THAT song to perform. She could have used that moment to spotlight a single or another song to boost Romance but she intentionally chose First Man. She appreciates all the sacrifices her parents made to give her opportunities here in the US as an immigrant. That's why she supports dreamers (children of unauthorized immigrants who grow up in the US). She dedicated her Havana music video to dreamers as well. I'm excited for you to check out her music videos. You really get to see her personality and creativity in those. Her Havana mv shows the two sides of Camila. Her first name is Karla and she went by that name at school. That's her painfully shy, introverted self and in the music video she plays "Karla" while also watching her "Camila" self which is her middle name and the sexy, confident, performer side of herself. Once she decided to audition for X-factor and face those fears she kind of reinvented herself. I can't wait to see more live performances too. I'm still waiting on Havana at the Grammy's, Consequences at the AMAs, Living Proof at the AMAs and a Señorita one as well.

2021-03-04 11:12:00 +0000 UTCThere were about half a dozen re-blogged racially insensitive memes on her Tumblr from when she was 14/15. The chances are she just reblogged them without looking or understanding. The one including the N word was a joke by a black comedian btw. As someone else mentioned here, the problem is everyone just reads the hate on Twitter and regurgitates it without any research. Camila apologised and closed the Tumblr account but someone went to a lot of trouble to resurrect them when Romance came out (the timing was not coincidental) and she apologised again. Since then, her mental health was affected and she has spent the past 12-18mths and especially since the BLM movement kicked into gear last year, educating herself and becoming deeply active in the racial healing movement (to the point where her latest initiative has earned her a place in People's Women Changing the World issue this Friday (she launched the Healing Justice Project in partnership with the nonprofit Movement Voter Fund to provide grants to 10 BIPOC, LGBTQ+and youth-led organizations to cover six months' worth of mental health support for their workers). This is following years of BLM support starting when she was first called out, and she and Shawn both marched in the protests last year. As for 'assuming that the names she and Dinah used included the N word', that is merely an assumption and there is no proof at all of such a thing. (Normani herself has a problematic past with video surfacing of her mocking Arabic/DESI people). The only other racist scandal was the fake tweets which were created by Normani stans who admitted it and thought it was hilarious. Camila has spoken to Normani and told her own fans to back off. Which is more than the other girls did after Camila left the group and received horrendous hate including racial slurs (based on her Mexican heritage) including death/rape threats against her and her family and calls for her deportation. Instead, they performed at an award ceremony where a fake fifth member was thrown off the stage at the start in the most tasteless display I've ever seen. Camila sat home and watched and cried. These girls had been her friends, and in the appearances in the last months, their behaviour towards her was reminiscent of Mean Girls, leaving her crying in the locked bathroom, the only place she could work on her own music. So before you all start perpetuating the baseless 'racist' rumours, do some research, and remember that the entire premise of the BLM anti-racist movement is that those who come from privilege or non-black backgrounds, whether they have participated in active racism or not, become educated in that privilege so that they can become anti-racist. If you can't accept that a 14yo kid, an immigrant child from a background that has incurred significant racial hatred itself these past years, whose life and growth the past ten years has been well documented, has changed, then what point is the whole movement? Sorry about the rant, but as the mother of a daughter the same age as Camila with similar mental health issues, I find the immense amount of online hate and bullying against Camila, and Shawn for that matter, two of the most unproblematic celebrities out there, to be disgusting, and just unfathomable. End of rant.

2021-03-04 09:21:50 +0000 UTCYes people need to read that Twitter thread , the only true thing is the Tumblr reblogs when she was very young and although thats no excuse she has accepted full responsibility and regret for those memes she re blogged. She has done so much to show change, compassion, love, and fought for whats right for nearly the last 10 years or so. So many artists have a history of saying ignorant things as children including even shawn who I adore , and he is one of the nicest humans, and a stand up compassionate man. People can change especially from when they were children. We need to focus on holding people accountable who don't learn and change their bad behavior, and support those who learn to do better and make those changes. Life is about growing and learning.

When Camila left and the group disbanded after, it’s hard not to feel heart broken when I see her name (dramatic but it feels like I went through a break up). However, I am genuinely happy for all her success and it seems she’s still stayed as down to earth as she was when she started in X Factor.

She was young, and to quote her "ignorant" and yes its inexcusable, however Normani herself has excepted her apologizes, and if you do follow her you can also see all of the genuine work she has done in this regard. So lets stop rehashing and maybe learn from other peoples mistakes.

2021-03-04 06:49:44 +0000 UTCall the claims on camila being racist towards normani are based on fake Facebook screenshots that the person that made them has admitted to making them and i think normani was talking about was fans being racist towards her. camila did call out her fans when the situation was happening as i said and i've seen the tweets its nothing about herself. she has apologized about what's real and the the tumblr reblogs that no one is denying that they are real and she recently spoke in the racial healing event and further on apologized other than the other times that she has apologized on social media. i wish there was someone here to explain the situation better than i can but what i know is that i obviously respect anyone feeling uncomfortable with supporting camila because of the tumblr posts but i'm tired of false rumors being spread around here is the most recent video of her on the racial healing event https://youtu.be/whBaZcHoXPc

I think that you will love his performance of Bad Reputation and quite frankly all of the other ones as well. He was only 19 but what an honor it was for him to be given the opportunity to restart shall we say the MTV Unplugged concerts since they were no longer being done regularly. They stopped having them for a number of years I believe. its like being at a rock concert with a full on string section.

2021-03-04 06:43:12 +0000 UTCthere’s actually a video interview where fifth harmony is asked what their contact names are and camila and dinah insinuate that their names include the n word while normani stands to the side looking uncomfortable. this seems to me like her and other girls used that word frequently around normani, a black girl. i mentioned the fans thing because although camila told her fans not to hate others in order to love her, she never actively called out the racism which looking back i can see why normani was so hurt. of course camila was young when this occurred but it’s stained her to the point where now i do stop and think, is she still having these racist, hateful thoughts and only speaking out now because she was called out? i wonder this to myself and never send her any hate or try to cancel her because i just don’t think that’s productive but i think to remember just how racist her posts on tumble were are important when thinking whether or not to support her.

I don’t think Camila is the worst person in the world nor am i trying to cancel her but that situation really made me lose respect for her. It’s the constant jokes about black people including Rihanna’s domestic violence and monkey jokes that she liked and made on her tumblr, even if they were years ago, that leave a bad taste in my mouth. It’s especially worse when you consider that camila’s fans bullied normani off of twitter by spamming her with photos of her being lynched. It’s a lot of hate based on race that’s connected to her over the years that makes me side-eye her now.
