I love this episde, but I think nini should have been able to do it without ricky if EJ stepped up, its acting and I believe that showed she should have put that aside and play her role with whoever troy is

Honestly, I was against it (as a die hard HSM fan) and planned not to watch it BUT decided (after seeing Corbin Bleu [who played Chad in the movies] interviewed them) that I would try it out and it TOTALLY exceeded my expectations. Especially since it wasn't a reboot (which Disney has tried repeatedly to bring up and haven't done it, thank you very much. the only reboot I want is with the original characters, duh lol). I'm excited for your reactions to Julie and The Phantoms, and I still can't wait for your reactions to HSM 2 & 3. Oh and advice, ALWAYS watch the end credits when it comes to High School Musical (which you missed with the first movie [I saw someone mention it in one of their comments, and I believe you said you'll go check it out as part of your Reaction to HSM 2 so hopefully you still do that). OK, I think this is a long comment. I'm going to stop now and go watch your first Julie and The Phantoms Reaction lol.

I originally only watched this because of nostalgia for the movies and curiosity for how they would adapt this idea. I totally thought this would be a corny Disney Channel type kids shows, but they went so much deeper than I ever thought they would.

If you want more there is a holiday special where they all sing individually/duets and Joshua wrote his own song for Ricky to Nini and Olivia has a beautiful cover of River. Also, you should definitely check out the vevo performances of Just for a Moment and Start of Something New with Olivia and Joshua!

2021-03-31 14:11:15 +0000 UTCfun fact: during the “i love you” scene joshua improvised parts of it - the memories he lists that we hear were all part of the script as memories that nini & ricky shared, but during olivia’s coverage (when the camera is on her) joshua was saying memories that he & olivia shared throughout filming which is why her reactions/emotions feel so real!!
