There aren’t tons of speak now stans people are usually split between red/1989/reputation. But speak now will always be my favorite taylor album. It’s whimsical and you can hear how different her attitude is towards love when you hear this and then listen to red which came after it. I really feel a lot of songs on this album are underrated. IMO Back to December, enchanted, haunted, and last kiss are up there with all too well in her best written songs.

I went into my email to find it for you <3 “Also, there's a little storyline here that connects a lot of songs: Joe Jonas broke up with Taylor over the phone on a 27 seconds call after meeting Camila Belle on the set of a Jonas Brother music video (Lovebug). Taylor wrote Forever and Always about him. Then JB released Much Better on their next album, then Taylor released Better Than Revenge about Camila 'stealing' Joe and threw the line "show'em how much better you are'. Last Kiss is also about Joe, and some people assume Haunted is also about him. Like people've mentioned, Back to December is about Taylor Lautner and it was the first time she wrote a song taking blame for a relationship not working out and the 'september night' she mentions is the VMA/Kanye incident, when Taylor Lautner was actually onstage when it all happened. Innocent is about the incident with Kanye but i actually find it extremely condescending instead of that 'forgiving' lol”

Many inexplicable tears were shed watching this. I can remember this time so vividly. I was 18 years old and had this album on repeat all day long. No one understood me or my emo-ness but Taylor. So dramatic, I know. But that’s how it feels when you’re 18. I literally haven’t listened to this in at least 10 years but knew every word by heart. So insane. I kinda fell off Taylor’s music after this time, not sure why really. I’ve heard her hits but wasn’t listening to her albums as religiously. Well, within this last year and through watching your channel and getting excited right there with you - I’m a born again Swiftie. I loved watching your reaction to it. You’re always so kind, fair and insightful. I very don’t mind a 2+ hour Taylor reaction. Keep them coming. Much love. Xx

I remember there being like 5 or 6 music videos, but it seems like a bunch of these songs played on the radio, even some of the deep cuts. Maybe that’s just because I grew up in the south and Taylor always played on country and pop radio so her songs were everywhere.

And if you listen To the lyrics, its still pretty accurate: "The cynics were outraged, screaming this is absurd, cause for a moment a band of thieves in riped up jeans got To rule the world". There is still so many people thinking TS is overrated and says it is absurd when she wins an award. Also, the song "Innocent" is about Kanye West. And yes "Dear John" is about John Mayer.

Also the line that says "I'll watch your life in pictures like I use to watch you sleep." He's an actor so she would watch him pictures. Great reaction! Ours is one of my TS favorites!

While it does have some song i'm not a huge fan of, the deep cuts on this are some of my fave from her entire career. And also Long Live which is a song that I have tattooed because it just means the world to me and the feeling of celebrating the good moments we have even if they don't last forever.

Fans have speculated for so long that Taylor will come out with a rock album, when you start watching her tours there's a lot of rock. I hope one day she does. Also, if you want to hear something that will make you smile then look up "Owl City- Enchanted" on youtube. It's rumored she wrote the song about the lead singer, and he turned around and covered the song from his perspective then released it on Valentines Day years ago. So sweet.

Swift had some regrets about writing the song: “I was 18 when I wrote that,” she said. “That’s the age you are when you think someone can actually take your boyfriend. Then you grow up and realize no one can take someone from you if they don’t want to leave.”

I don’t agree with the lyrics in better than revenge which sucks cause it’s such a good song! I’m not sure what Taylor is going to do about the re-recording. I hope she still re-recorded the song. Maybe she can change some of the lyrics? We all know Taylor is an incredible songwriter so I feel like it wouldn’t be too hard, but then again it will defeat the purpose of the re-recording being exactly the same. So who knows! Anytime I see someone hear this song and like it without hesitation, it always makes me side-eye them a little bit. Yes, it's misogynistic. It's also misandristic in that she doesn't give the man ANY human qualities at all. He is only a toy for them to fight over. If I'm honest, that is actually what saves the song for me and allows me to listen to it because the other woman isn't a person she likes, but at least she's a person. This is a song that Taylor has tried to distance herself from, and she has said she no longer agrees with the message. All that being said, I do still have a blast singing along to it in my car haha

Long Live is about her band members and her and how they began their touring together. when Taylor just started her career, she had done everything with her band and her mom. quickly this song song became the anthem of swifties with Taylor and the song is also about the bond of Taylor with the Swifties and how they stick by her side all the time.

I’ve been a fan of TS since her debut came out and I’m her age, so her albums always take me to those specific moments of my life as well and it makes it all the more special. Taylor wrote this album all on her own, not becuase of the word on the street but becuase of the sexism in the media and the critics . You should react to her speech when she won Artist of the Decade at the Billboard Awards where she talks about this . I remember watching all interviews she gave when this came out . “Mean” won a Grammy and she wrote it about music critic Bob Lefsetz who pretty much said Taylor’s career was over after she had one bad performance (also he and others critics always criticized that her music ‘wasn’t real country’ so she made that song the most country all album ) Mine is a concept song, it’s TS daydreaming about a rom com type love. Sparks fly was a song that she used to sing live around the fearless era and the fans loved it so she included it in the album. Back to December is about Taylor Laurent, and their brief relationship. They’re friends now. Beautiful song and also one of my faves. Speak Now is also a concept song very movie-esque and she wrote it after she friend was upset that her ex boyfriend was getting married, its a jokey day dream song. Rumored that the friend was Hayley Williams. Dear John is about John Mayer. amazing songwriting. He was 31 when they dated and she was 19. He wrote a song in response called paper doll (it’s bad ). Pretty sure Ours and Superman are about him as well (before they broke up obvs) Better than Revenge was a song that everyone loved back then, becuase musically it’s a good song. I remember liking it back then but as I grew up I stopped liking it and definitely hate the message now. I think the same thing happened with Taylor, she matured along the rest of us and has said a few times - that she obviously was immature, I mean she was 18 , also as she mentioned in her documentary part of growing up is deconstructing that misogyny and sexism that we all grew up with and that is ingrained in our brains and that lives inside us and we have to be so mindful and conscious of and work on deconstruction . But that also comes with growth abs maturity . innocent is about Kanye West, I remember her saying the song was about him before the album came out so everyone knew that One was about him. So crazy to think she wrote that and then everything he put her through in later years. I guess he never grew up. Last kiss is one of my favorite TS songs ever. Enchanted and Haunted are also two of my favorites in the album.

That September night was the night Kanye interrupted her speech, so he had held her while she was crying. Hahaha, ouch. HAHA! Remember, Taylor never does anything on accident. Dear John is 100% about him. Confirmed. Here is a brief history: they collaborated on his song Half of My Heart, they dated, he's... him, so she wrote this song. He called it cheap and lazy writing, then a few years went by and he wrote the song Paper Doll about her. It's a shame he's so talented because WTF. Mean is pretty much a letter to a specific critic who would tear into everything she ever did. He would completely rip her to shreds, saying her career would be short-lived and that she was pretty much embarrassing herself for trying. We have to laugh. I can't listen to Never Grow Up without crying so... thanks for this. Better Than Revenge.. the problematic child. Oh man, Taylor was mad. This song is a direct response to the Jonas Brothers song "Much Better". There are a few songs on Speak Now that are about/responses to Joe Jonas. This being one of them. I'd be very surprised if this was included in the re-recordings. I'm surprised her team let her release this song, honestly. They probably saw dollar signs though.. the public loves a good song battle. Innocent is Taylor originally forgiving Kanye West, but we all know how that ended. Notice the September reference like the one she made in Back to December. I haven't been able to listen to Long Live without crying for 11 years... send an ambulance.

Except for Sparks Fly which is my favorite on the album and one of the overall favorites so I'm a little sad about it 😅 Fun facts: Forever&Always, Mr. Perfectly Fine, Better than Revenge and Last Kiss are all so different but apparently are about the same guy, Joe Jonas. Also Dear John and Ours is about the same guy. I guess she wrote Ours before Dear John. Sad, right? I started to appreciate Ours more when I heard the acoustic version on Storytellers and the story behind it. Mean is about her critics (there's constructive critisism and then there's just being mean) but it became an anti bullying anthem 💪 Enchanted is about Adam Young from Owl City. He did a cover of the song on one of their concerts (and changed the perspective, I think). But they never dated, it was just a sympathy. Long Live is about her band and indirectly about her fans ❤️
