And can you imagine he wrote “a little too much” all by himself? It’s autobiographical he later said but he was scared so made it in the pov of a girl. Another song he wrote by himself was “Running low”. There is a Handwritten Rewritten edition that has a couple more songs than the deluxe btw!

Thank you for reacting to Handwritten and I’m happy that you found it to be a great body of work considering his age, this is the reason I’ve been asking you to react to the MTV Unplugged concert that he did when he was 19. The honor of being asked to play there is too great to even think of especially when you stop and consider all the greats that have had the same pleasure. One of The albums you want to react to is the MTV Unplugged album that I’ve been asking you to do for a while and that I’ve told you that there is a live concert that you would appreciate more especially when he plays Bad Reputation. Anyway great job and I’m looking forward to the reaction.

I had not listened to his earlier music so this was wonderful. I have new favorite to add to my rotation.
Wow! You can really see the development and you can also see how much of a natural talent and true lover of music he is.
I was today years old when I realized, I too, must be a psychopath. Because I “shuffle all” all the time. I could be listening to Tejano, then 90’s R&B and then some Pop. Doesn’t everyone? That had me cracking up. 🤣
LOVE these reaction so much!

I would love for you to check out some of his earliest youtube cover videos when he was developing his voice and sound. His cover of "Sweater Weather" is a personal favorite of mine. I would love more live reactions too. I get so excited when I see Shawn or Camila content.

Absolutely adored this reaction and your voice!!! Michael I swear when you started singing Dream I had goosebumps all over my arms. I know you did a short cover of Wonder on YouTube way back when but maybe we could get a cover of dream🥺.
Thank you for all the Shawn and Little Mix content lately. Sending you lots of love ❤️

Every time you mention the influence of Ed Sheeran, it reminds me of the moment Shawn said that when he was little he signed up for guitar lessons because he wanted to learn how to play "The A team" by Ed. However, his instructor told him no.😂 I guess he wanted him to learn the basics first idk. Anyways he ended up quitting that day and said he learned on his own by watching youtube videos.

He actually sings " life of the party, stitches, and never be alone" in his Netflix concert. He definitely did some arrangements to each song. Someone in the comments mentioned that in his Netflix concert he changed the whistles to having the audience sing "woah" in the song never be alone. It sounds beautiful!

Thank you so much for this! I discovered Shawn with "Mercy" and then became a big fan during the self-titled era and so Illuminate and self-titled were my favourites (replaced by Wonder of course!) but I didn't really get into this album, he was so young and his voice just starting out, that only a couple of songs made my playlist. I feel bad about it now, because after this I think I love just about all of them! So I owe you a lot! Can't wait for you to watch him on Corden, he is absolutely hilarious! And don't forget to watch (a) James Corden's interview with Shawn and Camila during the I Know What You Did Last Summer era, and then Shawn's reaction to it on a recent episode with James which is just so funny! Anyway thanks again for another stellar reaction and review! Cheers.

This comment is going to be so long, please bear with me, I'm just excited. Also there might be some mistakes, its 2am now, but I was taking notes along with the video because I always forget to mention stuff. Other fans, feel free to correct me if I get anything wrong.
- The only songs he did not write at all were Life of the Party & Stitches, he picked them but they were given to him before he got together with some writers.
- He has an EP too. There are 2 songs on there that you have not heard, Show You & One of Those Nights. The other 2 are Life of the Party and The Weight, a total of 4 songs.
- As others before have mentioned, there are 3 more songs on the revisited version of Handwritten, maybe you can listen to all 5 songs (these 3 & the 2 from the EP) together.
- Never be alone was in the Netflix concert but he played it on piano and changed the whistles to 'woah's. It sounds really nice. The song is considered the fandom's song (I think he ended up dedicating it to the fans since they claimed it but I'm not sure) & Look Up At The Stars, which he actually wrote for us, is like a part 2 to this song.
- About the country twang you mentioned, he's always liked country. He said before his favorite song of all time was Our Song by Taylor Swift and his favorite karaoke song was I Want Crazy by Hunter Hayes.
- Strings is so good. In If I Can't Have You, he referenced Strings during the 2nd chorus
"I'm so sorry that my timing's off
But I can't move on if we're still gonna talk
Is it wrong for me to not want half?
I want all of you, all the strings attached."
I don't know if it was intentional, but when I noticed I was really happy.
- I really still love Aftertaste. Its probably my favorite off this album, but its hard to choose.
- Shawn is the only writer on A Little Too Much. I didn't cry but it made me emotional. Its even sadder because he wrote it about himself but was scared to admit that so he pretended it was about an imaginary girl, and years later confessed it was about his own struggles. It's impressive how in touch with himself and his emotions he's always been, and how he's able to translate it so beautifully into these deep and vulnerable songs. He's had this theme in each one but we have seen it evolve with his albums (Understand and Hold On in Illuminate, In My Blood in self-titled, Monster in Wonder). I think its amazing that he will do it in a way thats relatable, hard-hitting, yet positive.
- This Is What It Takes was Shawn's favorite song off this album (at least he said so in 2018) and the original ending track. Even after listening to it so many times I never got that meaning of the light through the seams/slits of her closed eyes but I love that interpretation. Thanks for pointing that out. I wonder if this song was also somewhat about himself based on the similarities to A Little Too Much? I've never heard him mention it but who knows, or maybe about someone going through a similar experience.
- I remember him dissing Imagination once. Can't remember what he said but the Mendes Army was upset. Its definitely a fan fave.
- The "paint it in black" lyric in The Weight goes back to Bring it Back where he says "it's black and burnt." There are a couple songs where Shawn talks about being cheated on but when asked about it he always says it's made up or he got inspired by friends' stories. I always wondered if maybe he did get cheated on or hurt similarly but won't admit it because he's a gentleman or to try to protect that person from fans who would take it too far and attack that person. I know that he can get a little dramatic when it comes to his writing- he's said before that he stretched the truth or slightly changed things for the sake of the song-, but songs like this and Perfectly Wrong make me think he's been through some shit that he's kept private, which again is normal and better for him in my opinion, maybe a toxic relationship (not necessarily Camila).
I really enjoyed listening to this album again with you and remembering how good it was and still is. You should definitely listen to both live albums, although you can also watch the MTV Unplugged performances on YouTube if you'd like. The Zane Lowe interview is great and I'd love to see your commentary.
If you check out the LateLateShawn content, there's quite a bit.
- The carpool karaoke that you already watched (it was shorter as you mentioned because he was there the whole week)
- The parking space sketch, the cover battle, the Shawnologue, reacting to his voice cracks, the vlog, the Twitter Q&A, the interview snippets.
- He also did 4 performances: Lost In Japan, Nervous, Like to Be You with Julia Michaels, & Perfectly Wrong. Please react to Like to be You & Perfectly Wrong at least!
You'll find the sketches & interviews if you search #LateLateShawn in YouTube, but the official clips of the performances were made private. You can still find them on other people's channels, but not on the show's channel.
Thank you for giving us Shawn content! Love your reactions 💕

I was about to write an essay on how they wrote I know what you did last summer but it's better to just watch this 3 minute video where they talk about (not for a reaction video obviously if you're just curious) https://youtu.be/jmsL1-Spj50
on thing I just want to add is that they knew one another from the previous summer where they were a part of the same tour but they weren't really close friends. They became best friends after all the hours in the studio. So their relationship was basically created from songwriting which is really cute

There already comments about this but handwritten revisited!! not the whole album because it's the same with just some live versions but the last three tracks act like you love me, running low, memories probably better/as good as the best songs on handwritten
Never be alone if you don't like the whistles you should listen to it live when the crowd sings the whistle part. There are 2 version of it live on streaming services my favorite is on madison square garden which is a mashup with hey there delilah

I love all three extra tracks. I cry to running low way too often, blast memories, and feel like burying myself in a hole when listening to act like you love me. And the wonder music video still takes my breath away it is pure magic

We both had the same thought ha. I was waiting for memories and realized he had the wrong version and was like ohh no. But then realized its good news because now he still has more shawn songs to hear 😊

I'm so happy you did this !! Yay. Ok but I have good news and bad news . The good news is the same as the bad news . This version is missing 3 songs , the good news is you have more shawn you can listen to 😊. Handwritten revisited has the extra tracks , "memories" (one of my favorites)then there is "act like you love me" and "running low". So I'd love to see you get to those , maybe combine them with lover remix . Also I cant wait until you can watch his and camilas music videos . Camilas are unreal and shawn has some good ones too. And you'll love his stuff with James corden . James has the most nostalgic shawn content including one of the most famous interviews ever in which he made him and camila squirm (i felt sorry for them but it was funny because James was right lol) . But he has played a few games with James and performed on there and you'll love it. Also snl . Thanks again, always love your reactions, especially shawn content ❤

Shawn really developed so much lyrically & vocally. It’s so cool so see how far an artist has come just by going through their discography. Can’t wait to hear you go through other artists work. Just finished watching your Plastic Hearts reaction & thought it would be dope to hear you also react to more of Miley’s stuff (Can’t Be Tamed & Bangerz are incredible!) Selena & Demi also have some great albums. Now to re-listen to Handwritten all night 😭♥️
