Lorde | Melodrama - Full Album Reaction

Where has this been all my life??

Comments

all fixed :)

Michael Beveraggi

I’m so sad! What happened to all the lorde videos??😢

Talon Smith

Not available 🥲🥲

Mackenzie Barber

so late to the melodrama party, and i don’t even know why i’d never listened to it before, but this is definitely one of my favorite albums now, and one of my favorite reactions from you by far 🤩

Ashleigh

Dropping in for a re-watch/listen of this amazing trilogy and saying how much I love your reactions and commentary ❤️

Hunter Kuehn

I really really hope you consider listening to Pure Heroine and of course Solar Power since you enjoyed Melodrama so much 🤞🏼❤️

Clarissa

revisiting to manifest a pure heroine reaction before solar power drops next week 🤞

Grace

I come back to watch this reaction every week! It made me fall back in love with this album 🤩🤩

Lucy Quirk

This reaction is PERFECTION! So happy you did it! Hell yea!! 💕

Meghan Cole

PLEASE listen to Sza's album CTRL

Molly C

IMMEDIATELY! And I mean, IMMEDIATELY subscribed to Patreon after seeing this on YouTube just for this yummy yummy uncut reaction to Melodrama, because YES! YES! YES! Although I'm actually baffled with the lack of Lady Gaga here (Artpop, in particular) or maybe you already have her in your library? Idk. But also, you cute. 😊

Thank you for this reaction. I’ve been so stuck on Taylor Swift and nothing else was satisfying my need for great song writing. Until you helped me discover Lorde. Just love this album. I doubt I would have ever appreciated her with you.

Fleur Williamson

Love Lorde! I think you would really like Hozier's first album - from 2014, his lyrics are amazing! and also Pure Heroine Lorde's first album! <3

Melissa Votaw

OMG! This is my fave reaction from you so far. I said the same thing about Gwen Stefani and Homemade Dynamite! I think it's the beat. Also, you MUST listen to Sza's CTRL, her vocals are ridiculous and the production is top tier as well. Actually, I'd said that my top 3 albums right now are Blonde, Melodrama and CTRL. I hope to see you react to it soon! <3

Alia

I’ve been meaning to get into Lorde!!! The only song I knew of hers was royals. Which I loved but I never deep dived into her discography. I just did and what an experience!!! You picked up on things did I definitely wouldn’t of, and you’re reaction and excitement hyped me up even more!!! Gonna go re-listen to that album fully right now!!! Thank you for letting me have this experience with you🙏🏽🤩♥️

Ines Costa

i’m glad you discovered this masterpiece

viola

I really enjoyed this reaction. It’s been so long since I have listened to this album from start to finish. As always, thanks for the reaction Michael ❤️

Hi! Just listening to Green Light now and you talking about The Great Gatsby, and I'm not sure if you're already aware, but Taylor Swift's song "happiness" on evermore is actually related to Gatsby!! There's a lot of allusions in the lyrics, like the "I hope she'll be a beautiful fool" line referring to Daisy saying she hope her daughter will be a beautiful little fool, and later the "green light of forgiveness" referencing the green light. There's also the "winning smile" that could be related to Nick's narration of Gatsby, and the overall discussion of reinvention. You might also be able to find other interpretations as well since you are such a fan of the book!

megan

I also had the same reaction to Writer in the Dark as an author lolz and she was 17 with her debut and 21 with Melodrama. Her, Olivia, and Taylor are exceptional examples of young, female singer-songwriters with Taylor predating Lorde predating Olivia... Lorde rarely outputs. A 3 year hiatus between debut and sophomore and we're on year 4 waiting on Album 3 lolz but she is awesome when she does come around

Hunter Kuehn

Oh I needed this... You are a Jack Antanoff stan: Folklore (with Aaron Desner) Lover, Reputation, Chemtrails, Melodrama... He did work with Fun still has his own band The Bleachers (you might like them, good vinyl music). And Lana's Norman Fucking Rockwell. He did fantastic on that one.. He didn't do Lorde's first album Pure Heroin. A different vibe. A strong debut for sure. Melodrama trumps though in my opinion. Her writing and themes and use of production is SICK on both albums

Hunter Kuehn

Fun fact about The Louvre: when she says "they'll hang us in the louvre, down the back," it's kind of a double entendre. You hang famous paintings and artwork in The Louvre, but also, it was an execution site in the like 12th century or whatever. So when she says "down the back" she could mean they're not famous enough to be like centre stage OR she could mean they'll be hanged down the back in the area previously used for executions. Sorry I kinda rambled on! Just think it's interesting!

Delaney

Joined this Patreon just for this reaction. PLEASE DO PURE HEROINE

Josiah Kane

okay i adore this album. it has been one of my favorite albums since it dropped. but aside from that i think you would LOVE to hear SZA's music! she is wonderful. she is my favorite female vocalist of all time.

Maya W

Lorde was 19 when she wrote this album, but she was the youngest person to ever win a Grammy for Song of the Year when she won one for Royals at the age of 17 :)

Jade Hunter

since you love the great gatsby, you HAVE to listen to "nothing else I could do" by ella jane -- it's based on the great gatsby and it's very taylor swift and lorde inspired!!

Gaby

Would love to see you react to “if I could make it go quiet” by girl in red soon!!!

codenamewitch xx

Also - watching you listen to hard feelings/loveless for the first time has been one of the greatest privileges of my life ♥️

Abbey H.

I love melodrama!! But Pure Heroine is my fav!!!! AAAAAAA so excited for this + for you to finally be listening to Lorde!!!

Xene

THE LEIGH ANNE EAT IN PLSSS !!

Xene

Also based on this reaction you should totally react to Ctrl by SZA. Her voice is killer!

jasmeet

But you already knew that if I just waited to watch it lol

Brianna

This entire album is about jack antonoff - who also produced the album!!!

Abbey H.

I didn't know that podcast existed and melodrama is one of my favorite albums ever thank you!!

Ifigenia B

The louvre is in Paris like you knew and it's one of the biggest museums in the world it has the Mona Lisa in it so that's why the lyric is "but who cares still the louvre". I've been to Paris but we didn't visit the louvre cause the line to get in was the biggest line you can ever think of. The "broadcast the boom boom boom" means broadcast my heartbeat cause she says before "megaphone to my chest broadcast the boom..." As the biggest supercut stan (those streams are mine lol) that song is like one of my favorites ever I recommend just listening to the song from start to finish no interactions but then again everyone has different preferences so I don't know. With Olivia everyone saw the influence from the the beginning in the driver's license bridge something about it is kinda lorde like. Also in deja vu in the second verse the shouting backing vocals "you're singing it together now i bet you even tell her" give me lorde vibes too.

Ifigenia B

this was such a nice surprise!!! when you listen to pure heroine make sure you remember that she wrote it at 15-16, the songs hit so much harder from a high school perspective tbh also you kept saying you wanted to understand the "boom boom boom .. and make em all dance to it" in the louvre- the full line was "megaphone to my chest, broadcast the boom boom boom boom and make em all dance to it" so they're all dancing to her heartbeat which i always interpreted as her "heart" or her feelings that she's putting into her songs that everyone is just dancing to

grace

Loved your reaction! I have been waiting so long to see you react to Lorde! Also for Louvre, the part where she's saying "broadcast the boom boom boom boom and make them all dance to it" I've always interpreted it as her putting her heart into her music which people take and dance to. Cause right before that she says "megaphone to my chest," which could mean like she's making music out of what her heart feels and puts it out into the world for people to dance to and it kind of shows the vulnerability she feels when she puts her music out. I have no clue if that's what that means but that's always how I've interpreted it.

jasmeet

i'm so glad melodrama is making you nerd out because it seems more like a piece of art than a pop album! since you are interested in how she made these songs she actually did a podcast series (that is on spotify) called 'behind the melodrama' where she talks about how each song came about, the lyrics/concepts, and who worked on them.. its a really nice supplemental piece to help you understand some of the artistic choices she made on the album

kaitlyn

this is and always will be one of my favourite albums of all time - so happy you’ve discovered it!

Isobel

On my The great Gatsby is life glad to find another fan my hubby makes fun of me because of how obsessed with that book I am, I read it at least once a year would be more if I didn't have kids haha!!!

Portia Crain

excited to start the polls!! lorde is incredible!!! you definitely need to listen to pure heroine soon! :)

heather

Favorite part: me, a 40+ listener, giggling as he exclaims "I THINK SHE'S LIKE 40 YEARS OLD!" There were actually some conspiracy theories at the beginning about her actual age, but according to Wiki, she's 24 this year. She released Royals at the age of 16.

Andi Watson

Royals: https://youtu.be/nlcIKh6sBtc

Andi Watson

I distinctly remember a review when this album came out - "It's ok, but it's so different from Royals - will she lose her fan base?" I wasn't a big fan of hers at the time, and didn't give this one a chance, but maybe I should go back and listen to both! 🤔

Andi Watson

OMG I can't wait to watch!!! Liability is one of my favorite songs ever. Also, Jack Antonoff helped produce this album... he's been producing with taylor since she released 1989.

Brianna

Mikayla

Yay!!! So excited to watch it, and for you to deep dive into Lorde 💜 Melodrama is one of my all time favorite albums, and Pure Heroine one of my all time favorite debuts from an artist - especially at the time Lorde really brought a new sound to the table, she’s incredible talented and creative
