Chapter 58: Serenora

[[Serenora, Gotham]]


"Where is he?" 


Amidst the teeming place that was scheduled to be inaugurated, Penguin searched for the man who was single handedly responsible for setting up a peaceful district in the middle of the city of crime. 


"You seem just as impatient as ever, Penguin."


This comment drew the crime lord's interest.


"Wh–" As he turned, he paused mid sentence to see one of the most influential men that was probably even higher in the food chain than him.


"Luthor…" Penguin muttered, surprised to see the richest man of Metropolis in the city of crime.


"It's his day," The genius billionaire said, "He deserves to take as much time as he wants."


Penguin was aware that Jasper had recently contacted Lex but the crime lord was not aware that he was able to establish a relationship where Luthor came to visit Jasper.


"He does," Penguin agreed, "He is one of the most hardworking and creative men in this field. And to have established such a place within months…" The villain smiled, "He deserves a break."


In contrast to his pride for Jasper, he had only suspicion for the man in front of him.


"But what is the 'owner' of Metropolis doing at this place?"


This question elicited a smile from Luthor, "The exact same thing you are doing, Oswald."


Being called by his name annoyed Penguin, but there was nothing he could do about it. People of Luthor's caliber were not ones he could mess with easily.


All he could do was maintain his smile.


"So, you are an investor?" Penguin deduced, not too happy with the reveal.


"To be a capable investor you have to know when and where to dump your money at," Luthor said, "And I believe we both are experienced enough to know that."


While Penguin invested in the hopes to form a closer relationship with Jasper and to have the Enchanter's skills at his disposal; Luthor invested in the hopes to unravel the mysteries surrounding Jasper and his infinite knowledge about the heroes.


Yet it all came down to one thing.


One person.


"Jasper is here!"


Jasper, the man capable of drawing the rich and powerful towards him. 


As one of the many business owners that were given permission to run their business in Serenora shouted, Lex and Penguin turned to look towards the rostrum.


"Good evening everyone."


The crowd was drawn to the voice that echoed around. 


"I hope you all weren't bored."


None of them were bored, as the only thing that was in their mind was greed, hope and desire.


"But I hope you understand that it takes a lot of effort when you have to manage such a grand area of business alone," He said, emphasizing on the 'alone' part. 


It was up to the interpretation of others about what they understood by it.


And the only ones to see through Jasper were Lex and Penguin.


"Greed," Penguin grinned, "He is smart."


"That he is." Luthor agreed, "But it would be disappointing if he was unable to make a crowd move according to his desires."


To be a great leader and a business owner, one had to know how to hook the crowd.


"But I believe that since this place is now going to be open for all of you," The Enchanter said, "For all of you to run your businesses and help in turning this place into a thriving district –I will be able to rest and let you all have a chance to grow your businesses."


It was impossible to keep a place as big as Serenora under an individual unless they were a political, economical or supernatural behemoth.


And in the case of Jasper, he had them all.


With his deals with Penguin, Lex and other investors, he was able to buy enough politicians to make sure that he did not suffer from political backlash for his district.


And he was capable of dealing with the supernatural side of things by himself, which meant he had built a robust foundation for his district.


"Each of you will be able to run your business in Serenora and soon we will have even more spots open to host new businesses." Jasper announced proudly, "And this is all because of the few individuals who came forward to help me when this place was nothing but a land of crime."


Saying this, he called out a few names.


"The one that funded me when I could not even dream about owning an apartment." He smiled, "The king of Gotham's underworld –Penguin!"


Penguin was reminded of the time when he introduced Jasper to the public. Now it was him who was being introduced.


'How the roles have reversed.'


He found it amusing, but it wasn't a bad thing. And he liked the fact that despite Jasper always calling him Oswald, he refrained from using that name to introduce him.


So, with a proud smile on his face –Penguin walked forward, climbing the rostrum.







"I am glad to have such a man backing me up," Jasper said, establishing the fact that Penguin was his backer.


This in a way bound Penguin such that he could not pull out without getting a bad reputation from the public.


After Penguin's introduction, it was time for the other business behemoth.


"And next we have the man that allowed me to enter his empire and possibly even branch out to his place." Jasper expressed with great enthusiasm, "The man responsible for raising the economy of his city all by himself –Alexander Luthor!"


With him announcing the details of their deal, he was making sure that it would be extremely difficult for the people to pull out without suffering from major public backlash.


And with this information, Luthor still walked the podium before waving at the crowd.







"Now we were supposed to have one more major investor with us, but she ended up not being able to come because of her busy schedule." Jasper did not reveal who it was, but merely frowned as he placed his hand over his pocket –over his phone.


'Why is Carol not answering my calls?'


He was a little worried, but for now he had other things to focus on.


Thing like introducing the business owners that were were contracted to him. 


'Contracts' making sure that their business would bring him profit and make sure that they were not allowed to backstab him.


So, going through the bunch of people and introducing them –he finally reached two very special people.


"And now, ladies and gentlemen…" Jasper put on a massive smile on his face, "Let me introduce you to the two people that were there with me when I dreamt of opening this place."


As he said that, the crowd saw flowers blooming around them.


"The queen of flora, the woman that every men wants but none is capable of standing besides her," Jasper said, "The woman who is famous in the world of heroes and villains but also someone who is capable in very special ways."


He smiled, "The woman whose knowledge on botany surpasses even the geniuses. Please welcome Poison Ivy, our lead researcher!"


The crowd erupted in applauses as the floral queen walked gracefully from behind the podium –making most men drool.


Her entry surprised everyone as they were used to seeing her in green skin and covered with vines for clothes.


But as she appeared, she did not have any of those classic traits.







Instead she was in casuals with skin that was paler than most.


"Thank you, Jasper~" She said in a seductive way, making the crowd aware that even the queen of flora had someone that she was willing to stand with.


"She will be the one to look after the laboratories and possibly the hospitals that are soon to be opened."


The crowd was shocked at how much authority was given to Ivy, but Jasper had his reasons for doing that.


With that, Jasper took a deep breath before finally putting on a relaxed expression.


"Finally, we have the one that is the sole reason I got the idea of creating this place," He said in a sincere tone, "The woman who is responsible for running the main attraction of Serenora. The amusement park of magic!"


He said before extending his hand frontwards.


"The mistress of magic, Zatanna Zatara."


And as he said that, a figure materialized in front of him –putting her hand over his.


The crowd was stunned by the display. They were gasping at the beautiful sorcery.


The air turned cool and pleasant, the aroma became sweet and butterflies began to fly around the crowd.


All while a beautiful woman emerged out of the air of Serenora.


A woman of beauty and magic.


"Zatanna Zatara!"







"And with these people with me," He said with the most peaceful tone, "I announce the opening of the district of serenity."


He closed his eyes before announcing.


"SERENORA!"
