DC: The Enchanter Chapter 65

Chapter 65: Harleen Quinzel (1/3)

Harley was quaking in fury. She didn't care that her limbs were bound by the metallic devices, all she cared about was getting to me.

"Harley!"

"Ahh!"

Ivy had no choice but to activate the device that shocked the female jester.

She tumbled back a little and yet she did not lose the anger that she carried. She gritted her teeth like a feral beast ready to pounce at me.

"Ivy." I said, signaling the queen of flora to close her eyes and dial up the device high enough to make Harley faint.

Within seconds of activation of the device, Harley's body weakened and she fell towards the two of us.

"It's pretty bad," I felt a sigh leaving me, "She is worse than I expected."

And she was.

Her makeup was all smeared up, she seemed like she hadn't taken a bath in a very long time, her hair was all jumbled up and she seemed far thinner than before.

Even with the supplements and the food that Ivy provided, Harley seems to have gotten extremely weak.

Her story was pretty sad, especially with all the abuse that she went through from Joker.

But it was Ivy for whom I was trying to help Harley. And in one way or another, I hoped that I would succeed.

Especially considering this was the first time I was going to try mind enchantment.

"We have to make sure that she is immobile," I said, "During the process, we cannot have her running rampant."

"Can we tie her up to a chair?" Ivy suggested and while it sounded bad, it was possibly one of the only options that we had.

"That's for the best, I guess."

I looked around us searching for anything that could cause disturbance.

"It will be your responsibility to make sure that neither of us are woken up when I start the process."

Honestly, I didn't even know if it would harm her or me if we were disturbed during the mind enchantment. But I just didn't want to take chances.

"Alright," She nodded and used her powers to sprout vines from all around the room –covering the room in a way that prevented outside noise from entering the place.

I had to stay calm. The mind was a very fragile thing and I could not afford the risk of breaking her.

And so we had her comfortably placed in a chair with her limbs being tied.

As for me, I sat right in front of the unconscious Harley.

"Inject the antidote into her bloodstream," I suggested, "And tell me when it starts to take effect."

Ivy nodded, "It takes around five minutes for it to work and I will try to improve the concentration of the chemical so that the effect lasts longer."

"How long?"

"About an hour," She answered, "Beyond that we will need to use another dose."

There was a risk of her waking up before the next dose and she couldn't give another dose before the effect of the first one ran out because of how strong the antidote was.

So, I had at best an hour on me to complete the process.

I can do it, right?

I sure as heck hope so.

"Let's do it," I said with a tone that radiated confidence, however I wasn't as confident as I sounded.

Ivy looked at me one last time, "Are you confident that 'you' will not end up hurt?"

Surprisingly, she asked about me and not Harley.

This unintentionally made me smile and nod.

"I will."

I wasn't a hundred percent certain but those words of assurance still left my mouth.

Nodding at the response, she carefully pushed the needle inside Harley's neck –letting the antidote flow inside her.

And it was the signal for me to form a link between me and the jestress.

And form a link I did.

I relaxed every part of my body and allowed the enchantment to work on my mind, my subconsciousness –allowing me to comprehend and feel things further and on a much grander scale.

My heartbeat quickened and then started to slow down alongside everything around me.

Everything moved at an extremely slow speed.

"yOu"

I heard Ivy speak, her mouth moving extremely slow.

"CaN"

I understood immediately what she meant.

"StArT–"

And with that, I tried to explore Harley's subconscious, trying to match the waves that I felt moving in and out of my head.

I tried to match those waves with the ones that were being released by Harley –ignoring the ones that were being emitted by Pamela.

And in that try, I ended up linking with Harley's waves. Unsure of the result, I still did what I knew was the only possibility of connecting with her mind.

And in that instant, when the link formed –my vision darkened and my senses went numb.

And all of a sudden, my world turned white.

White like snow.

Everything was white. Everything was silent.

Everything was so… cold.

I felt weird, horrifying even to feel such things inside someone's mind.

I wasn't even aware that it was possible to experience such things inside a world that was not physical.

Weirdly enough, it felt as if I was a part of this world from the very beginning.

As if I was a resident of it.

Slowly pushing my body and getting off the ground, I looked around. It was still white with seemingly nothing visible around me.

"Hello?"

My voice echoed through the white void, as if trying to reach ears that never existed.

"Can anyone hear me?"

White was a serene and calming color. Yet in this directionless void, all I could feel was the ominous winds.

Wind that should not exist.

There wasn't a source for the wind to blow, yet it blew.

I calmed myself, reminded myself that this was the mind of Harley Quinn. And if I knew anything about Harley, that was to expect the unexpected.

Closing my eyes once to arrange my thoughts, I decided to move forward. Staying idle would lead me nowhere. I didn't know how time worked in this void as compared to the material world and I was not willing to test it out.

Since there was no direction, no pathways –I took the straight route.

I walked towards a direction that didn't exist –as the moment I looked back, I didn't even know where I started from.

But I persisted.

I kept walking with nothing but a hope to spot something.

At least a single hint that would tell me if I was on the correct path. And maybe… maybe I was on the correct path.

Or maybe I wasn't.

But there was one thing for certain, the wind was growing stronger and colder.

I, in a way, was moving towards the source of it.

Now, was I supposed to do that or not? I had no idea.

I was prepared to use my powers if necessary.

Even if it was someone's mind and most likely they had immense control over it, I had used my enchantment to enter this world. If I was brought here against my will, I might not have been able to use my powers at all but given I was linked to her with the help of my powers –I was certain that they were going to work.

After walking for an awfully long time, the wind turned chilling –not cold, but chilling.

By this time, I had my senses blazing. I wasn't taking any chances and had my senses fully enchanted.

And possibly because of the enchanted senses, I was finally able to hear something within the empty noiseless void.

A cry.

"Huh?"

It was a cry, a helpless and scared cry.

"It's coming from where the wind is blowing…"

Maybe, just maybe I might have found the source of the wind.

"Better to protect myself first."

I decided to enchant my body and my subconscious to be strong against external attacks.

And with that, I walked and walked.

The cry grew louder but it was still not enough for me to spot the person.

So, this time around –I ended up enchanting my legs to sprint straight at a blinding speed.

I only had the source of the cry in my mind and nothing else mattered. Even the cold and strong wind was a secondary worry and finding the person that was wailing was the most important.

And with a few minutes of sprinting, I was finally able to spot something.

It was a blurry figure that sat in the middle of the white void.

But then again, everywhere I looked felt like the middle of the void.

I kept moving towards the figure, having quite an idea as to who it might be. But as I reached a proximity where I could make out the person's features –I was stunned.

It wasn't who I was expecting it to be.

Or well…

It wasn't that person at the stage that I was looking for.

"Harleen?"

I asked, looking at the tear stained face of the blonde child.

She slowly turned her head to look at me, her eyes dull and conveying great pain.

But what broke me were her words.

"A-Are you here to hurt Harleen too?"

Her life… has been messed up from her childhood, isn't it?
