Chapter 26: New Essence, New Equipment? Nah, Sleep.

“Michael, don't go without having dinner.” Gwen’s father suggested but I had something important that I had to do.


“Some other time, sir.” I said, declining the offer.


He was about to burst down at the university gate with the entire force that he commanded. But thankfully, I came with Gwen just in time.


It was not something that the police could have dealt with and to, at best, not end up looking stupid, they needed to send the special forces to even dream of standing a chance.


But that wasn’t necessary in the end.


Thankfully.


“Yeah, Michael.” Gwen gave a smile, “It's best if you don’t leave on an empty stomach.”


Well…


I was hungry.


And I would either have to cook or order.


Giving a sigh, I nodded. 


“Alright.” I said, “Thank you for the offer.”


It would also have been stupid to decline free food.

Finally,


Fucking finally.


I was resting.


Actual rest.


I was done with all the bullshit.


At least for a week.


I was done.


But, I was not done with System.


Oh no, I was definitely not done with the system.


So, I can ascend to a higher tier. What does that mean? I mean why do I have to do it manually?


Wouldn’t it have been better if I was promoted automatically?


But eh, it didn't. I have to do it myself. 


And since, it doesn’t give me new powers –I think– lets do that first.

I was surprised.


Till now, with essence I felt nothing.


But this felt different. My entire body began to sweat. 


I could feel the heat surging through. 


This left me no choice but to throw my clothes out of my body. They were sticking to me, hella uncomfortable.


But after like five minutes of discomfort, I finally heard it.

I finally took a breath of relief and even my body started to cool down.

This hurt, seeing that I can now get S tier spins. When my very first spin was S tier.


Truly hurts.


But at least, it won’t be the issue now. And also… this is a huge jump.


Twice the growth. 


But there was still an issue that I had no way to solve. This might have not been an issue till now, but it will be in the future.


“I cannot change Essence from an already equipped one.”


No matter how long the usage duration was, the fact that I could not shift characters was an issue.


There were moments where I needed Hercules’ durability or strength when I was using Nosferatu. Or times when I needed Nosferatu’s range and control when I was using Hercules.


Will this issue be solved if I increase my tier further? If so, till where do I have to increase it?


If only the system answered these questions, but nah.


I am left to figure out everything on my own.


Well, I will figure it out someday. For now, let’s get over the other issues.


Equipment or Essence?


Of course, Essence.


Always save the best for last.


‘System, spin for the Essence.’


It was an A grade equipment, so I definitely went with the B grade essence first.

Till now I haven’t been able to understand why there was a wheel with colors.


I mean I know that the colors represent the tiers. But then why did I need a wheel?


I already knew which tier it was going to land at. And the only time I had been given an ungraded spin was when I first got the spin.


So, I don’t see the need for these colors.


Oh, well. There wasn’t anything I could do about it. And besides, I feel like I am complaining a lot when this stuff is completely free.


Anyone would kill for something like this, and I was randomly being dumped with powers and items.


As I kept blabbering in my mind, the wheel finally showed the green color glowing.


Of course, I already knew that. That was never a surprise.


But the Essence always was.

Medea? As in Medea of the Argonauts? Well not exactly the Argonauts but the lover of its leader.


But wasn’t she a sorceress? Doesn’t that mean she is super strong?


I was so confused. But there had to be a reason why she was lower than Hercules.


And another thing that I was extremely surprised about was that I got a female essence.


I didn't know I could get women as Essence.


That was interesting.


With a sorceress I could use long range similar to Nosferatu and considering the tier, the long range was obviously stronger.


But wait, what were her feats again? I have forgotten but that also makes me wonder what kind of a sorceress she was.


She did use hexes and prophecies. 


Wait…


Is that why she was B grade and not higher?


Now that I recall. She didn't do any duels, did she? She was more like the support.


Of course, with Jason it was an unstoppable duo but with her alone?


I am starting to get why she is B grade.


“I will need to do a little bit of research on her.” Of course, I had to do research on almost every Essence that I got.


Everyone had a weakness and I would be stupid if I didn't look into those weaknesses.


Just like Nosferatu. If I hadn’t done excessive research, I would have not been able to learn that it was not sunlight that he was weak against but UV rays.


Same with Hercules. I would have not learnt about the blood poison that he could be killed with.


So, research was essential.


Now, onto the next thing.


‘Roll for the equipment, system.’


It was weird to keep calling it system, but it was just that.


System.


And I forgot the name of the system to begin with.

Red, that’s where it was going to land at.


But I wonder what I can get.


Till now, with Hercules I have understood what I can expect.


A grade is basically an unbound power, like I could not exactly see the limit of power. With Hercules, I did not use the full power even once.


Not even against that Android.


So, it was near limitless. But the reason it was possibly not S grade was that it still possessed a glaring weakness.


Which for Hercules was that despite that borderline god physic and strength, he had human weaknesses.


Just on a much higher scale.


So, the same was going to be for the item.


Mask of Loki was an example. It was ridiculously overpowered as it perfectly hid my identity but also I could also change to one person during one run.


And there might be ways to undo the effects of the mask that I am still unaware of.

Now this was something that I had definitely not heard about before.


And I was also too tired to worry about it for now.


So, what did I do?


I slept.
