DxD: The Sorcery System Chapter 59

Chapter 59: Cleaning Trash

{Quest Alert!

Quest: Show that a human can be trusted!

Protect the little Yokai!}

{Reward: Reptant Tongue}

<<Lava Hail>>

By creating the earth element and then heating it to the extreme, I forged the lava element—an element I previously couldn't construct due to the limitations of my Elemental Magic. But now, with the intermediate level, creating lava came easily.

“Ahhhhh!”

“Don't look.” I shielded the eyes of the little fox Yokai as the men before us burned under the falling rain of lava. Their skin and bones melted with each touch, the wings of the crow Yokai—Tengu—caught fire, and their screeches of horror filled the entire forest.

“It’s okay,” I reassured the little girl. “You’re safe now.”

{Name: Kunou}

{Class: Low Class Yokai}

{Threat: Low-Low Level}

{Type: Nine-Tailed Yokai}

A nine-tails was a legendary Yokai in our stories, and to find one so young and weak... It’s near impossible.

“Are your parents nearby?”

Her eyes were still covered by my hand, sparing her from the carnage before us.

“M-My mother,” she muttered. “S-She lives i-in the Yasaka Shrine.”

I knew it.

Sona warned me about Yasaka, and now it seems I’m entangled in this mess.

“I’ll take you to her,” I promised. “So, don’t be afraid.”

As I said that, I noticed the men—the Yokai and humans who had survived the lava by raising shields and defensive magic—glaring at me.

“Y-You!” It was a Tengu, a crow Yokai known to be the reincarnation of those who were once proud and arrogant.

Judging by the swords they wielded, the stories of them being expert swordsmen must be true.

{Name: Tengu}

{Class: Low Class Yokai}

{Threat: Low-Low Level}

{Type: Low Class Tengu}

A Tengu with the name Tengu?

I glanced at the other Tengus, and they all had the same name—Tengu. Did that mean they had no individual names and were simply referred to by their species?

“You filthy human!” The Tengu with the largest sword screeched, “You shall pay!”

As they dashed toward me, still somewhat damaged from the previous lava shower, I whispered into the nine-tails' ear.

“Can you please cover your eyes?”

The fox Yokai meekly nodded, keeping her eyes shut and bringing her tiny hands to them.

“Good girl.” I patted her head; she had suffered enough because of these monsters.

<<Curved Barrier>>

Harming innocents, killing men, women, and children—all for money.

No, they weren’t criminals that prison could reform.

They were supernatural scum, like that priest Freed.

And as I had learned and accepted:

Such scum should not be allowed to live.

“Bloody monkey!” The Tengus screeched in unison, their cries annoying even the humans they worked with.

But I didn’t care about their dynamics; I decided to use my own magic.

“Die!” they yelled.

No.

They will die.

<<Mud Field>>

By combining the earth element with the water element, I created mud, and when that mud spread across the ground, creating a field thick and deep enough to swallow an adult whole—we got Mud Field.

They were Low-Class beings, their threat level nonexistent, and I needed only one spell to defeat them.

But I didn’t stop there.

I had to ensure they understood the consequences of their actions.

They had to suffer for the innocent children they had hurt and killed.

“Ahhhhhhhhh!”

Their screeches of pain and horror made even the little girl flinch in the corner, as their blood began to paint the mud red.

<<Glass Cemetery>>

From the Earth Element, I created sand, and by melting that sand and rapidly cooling it—I created glass.

Laying those glass shards on the Mud Field, I crafted the Glass Cemetery—a death trap of tripping hazards.

Their cries of pain echoed as they fell onto the glass shards.

Some were lucky enough to fall headfirst, dying instantly.

Others weren’t so fortunate, impaled yet still alive.

“M-Magician Freak!”

None of them even had a proper chance to attack. Their blind rage had driven them to rush at me instead of using their ranged abilities.

The last three who were still able to move—having stayed in the backline without rushing—decided to throw arrows and spells at me.

<<Spiral Barrier>>

Unfortunately for them, after my run with Riser, I had learned the best types of barriers to counter each type of attack.

“W-What a freak!”

They trembled as they saw their magic fail to make even a scratch on my barrier. With their friends dead or whimpering in pain, bloodied, and with no hope of winning, they realized that living wasn’t a privilege granted to them anymore.

“W-What is he d-doing!” The two humans yelled, looking to the last surviving Yokai for answers.

Both of my hands pulled back, as if gripping the air and drawing an invisible bow.

“I-I don’t know!” He shouted, “Attack him before he does—”

Too late.

<<Lightning Snipe>>

Edged sparks of lightning, shaped like arrows, formed on both sides as I pulled—creating two pointed arrows.

Before they could cast a single spell, the arrows flew forward—impaling the two humans directly through their necks, killing them instantly.

“W-Wait—”

The Tengu begged, but after the innocents he had killed, he no longer deserved the privilege of mercy.

“Too late.”

I drew another arrow, pulling it back and preparing to launch it at the Yokai.

“Begone—”

However, the arrow never flew. A loud howl from a terrifying beast made me instantly cancel my magic.

Why?

Because I had to save my life, dodging the massive sphere of fire that flew my way.

“M-Mother?”

The little girl’s voice made both me and the Tengu pale equally.

Damn.

{Yasaka}

No!

They hurt my little girl!

They hurt Kunou!

My magic surged out of me, the fox inside clawing to transform into my true form and burn the entire forest down.

But I couldn’t.

It would hurt Kunou.

I couldn’t hurt Kunou!

No! There was one spell.

One that wouldn’t hurt Kunou!

My hand raised as I focused on her presence ahead of me.

And four others—no.

Two had died, two remained.

Who were they fighting?

No!

Kunou! I need to focus on her.

I gathered my magic, aimed it at the two presences that remained—both far from Kunou.

They had to die; they had hurt my precious girl.

“Fox Fire: Sphere of Greater Purge!”

A sphere made of the purest Fox Fire, a fire unable to hurt a Kitsune, golden and feral, swirled and grew massive before raging forward—burning part of the forest in its wake.

My howl echoed through the forest, ensuring Kunou could hear it.

As the flames cleared and the area came into view, I finally saw them.

Two men.

One human, forging an arrow of lightning aimed directly at the other—a Tengu.

Those clothes.

East Yokai Faction.

It doesn’t matter.

They both must die.

The corpses on the ground weren’t enough. For hurting Kunou, they must die twice over!

“M-Mother?”

The little girl whimpered, clutching her injured tail, dirt and tears staining her soft cheeks.

They hurt her, made her cry…

They will pay! They will die!

Of the two, the human reacted first—casting a magical barrier while quickly jumping out of the way of the fire sphere, saving himself.

But he won’t stay alive for long.

He will pay for hurting Kunou!

My fury intensified as I saw them dodging.

Fire alone wouldn’t satisfy my rage.

They had to suffer in the most horrifying way possible.

Youjutsu.

I raised my hand once more, prepared to kill.

“Please wait!” the human boy yelled. “Lady Yasaka!”

No.

There was no waiting.

Demonic energy spread around me, allowing me to invoke the most harrowing form of Youjutsu—Demon’s Haunting.

And so the spell took form.

“Youjutsu: Demon’s Haunting.”

“No!”

I heard Kunou’s voice as she morphed into her fox form and jumped in front of the human—shielding him from the smoke of nightmares.

“Kunou!” I cried out, horrified to see my daughter jumping into a fearsome Demon Art that I created. “No!”

Damn it!

If that hits her, she—she—

<<Gale>>

The human boy immediately grabbed Kunou and cast his spells.

<<Dual Spiral Barrier>>

A spiraling barrier, creating a wind current in front—alongside the wind magic from before—slowed the smoke from Demon’s Haunting.

But wind could only slow the magic, not stop it.

“Kunou!”

As I yelled again, I saw him holding her tightly before jumping away from the magic.

He saved my daughter.

But why?

“M-Mother, please stop!” Kunou pleaded, quivering and in pain. “H-He saved me!”

W-What?

“The Tengu was the one who hurt me!”

Oh.

As I turned, I saw the bird trying to transform and fly away.

However…

He couldn’t.

<<Frost Wind>>

Another spell from the human boy froze the Tengu’s wings, rendering him unable to fly—and making him crash right next to me.

“Lady Yasaka,” the boy said. “I’m here to help, not cause trouble.”

That’s when I questioned.

“Why?”
