Important Update & New Content Poll

Hey everyone,

Sorry about the last month without content, I've been very busy with many life/health issues and important questions, and It's come to the point I need to clear one of them with you, as you are the ones that make my content possible.

I've also been working on Unbiased Videos, tho its been very hard as I'm testing out new Editing/Animations styles. Therefore the prospect of also trying something different has been taking over my mind lately.

Doing the long Byzantine stream made me realize how much I liked making extensive long form content on cool subjects, so I have a proposition to make you:

I've been thinking about the possibility of making a new Channel where I'd do long form Game Analysis, much like Joseph Anderson/Mandalore/Noah Caldwel.

Elden Ring would among my first games, and I've been partially preparing a Ryse: Son of Rome, Portal 1&2, and Stanley Parable analysis just to test the process.

In all honesty doing long form game analysis has always been a dream of mine, but I couldn't in good conscience pursue head on it without first asking if my Patreons would be interested and willing to support the idea. If not for moral, than for financial reasons.

I have attached down below a small sample of a test recording for a Portal 1&2 analysis, so it might give you an idea of what it would be. (Sorry about the reverb)

So this is the question:

Would you support me making a Long form Game Analysis Channel?

(Feel free to ask any pertinent questions)

Unbiased podcasts would be good. It's the voice and monologue that makes unbiased more than the visuals.

I say yes with a big caveat. Even if the story of Rome really can’t be done any further, I still want to see unbiased history. Having a separate channel for long form is probably the best way to handle it, keep the two things segregated. If the animation is slowing you down too much or if you just want to go longer on certain subjects, maybe an Unbiased History Podcast would be cool. A podcast covering different historical subjects but with the tone and feel of Unbiased History minus animation. It might take a minor shift in the scripting but I think it could be done. A history nerd likes me knows all the material but just loves the comedic “un”biased outrageous take on it. The arc from the Severans to Constantine was peak comedy gold. Overall though, I’m strongly in the camp that I want to see more unbiased History, maybe a new series completely unrelated (as far as history goes) from Rome. Whatever else you do, as long as there’s still unbiased history in some form, I’ll support you.

I'm gonna use the audio sample to test the lip-sync on my game's character models (it's so clean!) lol. But on to relevant topics, I like the idea of a video game analysis. If it's a new channel, I'd say go for it! I think having some of your 'unbiased' commentary on it as well would help improve the format and somehow keep your unbiased history identity. At least during the first videos, it would help others fully transition from byzantine to video games. Or maybe try an analysis video and then an 'unbiased game story' to follow up. I don't think you need to limit yourself to one single type of content format, especially for non-linear games, you could re-tell your own adventure in an unbiased way. As you make content for your channel, you can later place videos on playlists, so people who just want unbiased stories can check that playlist, and so on. But that said, unbiased stories or not, I'd absolutely love some game commentary. Those types of videos help me better understand what makes a game good/bad by relative criteria, while it helps me keep a steady path while making my own video games.

Thought I wouldn't be into it, but after listening to the sample I'm all in. Take my shekels

Onyxtale

I don't really watch videos about video games anymore, but I support you trying different formats. I'd hate to learn that you're burned out by unbiased history and are just through the motions of it, but I love watching UH and wouldn't support it disappearing entirely.

Patrick

hi dovah. i have no interest in supporting anything that isn’t related to your history content that we’ve gotten all along. wishing you the best of luck

Jon Ries

I am mostly a fan of your historical work. I would support you in other things if it's still 'Dovahhatty'. I do like Mandalore's style, but I favor SethTzeentach's or UberDanger's much better. I believe the quality of your work around Julius Ceasar to the end of the Roman series is the best you've done, with a peak being (of course) the five good emperors. I know evolution happens, but that just felt the best. Edit: I like the Portal script you've posted. I would watch it

I'd love to see a bible series. I had never known I wanted that, but after you proposed it here a few months ago before the byz series, I totally fell in love with the idea.

Y.R. Music

It would be great if you did the historical games. You could give good insight into gameplay.

Michael Porzio

I put it out there a while back, but I'd love to see a short series on the Inca empire and their chads unifying south america and then quickly dying to the spanish

Aaron Sanford

Its fine as long as it doesn't take precendence over unbiased history. I'm here for 40+ minute history shitposts

ReturnOfTheTsar

I'm here for the shitposts. This is just an opportunity for long-form shitposts.

Johnny Jhonson

No problem, a nice analysis of Portal, Stanley etc would be cool, the only thing I'm worried about is the video being too long. Other than that i support it. P.S. I personally think these three games would be perfect for you to do a video about - Dear Esther, Limbo, and Darkwood.

Nicholas Bevan

I think you'd do excellent work in the Mandalore Gaming/sseth style, and would love to have another youtuber putting out content in that long-form format. I am 100% for this, and may actually up my support for the first few months as you get that off the ground.

Khantemplative

I mean, you saw the results of your last poll. Reviews for video games are not that high up on the list. If it is what you want, then go for it, but you will most likely lose a lot of viewers if you focus more on game reviews than history videos. I would probably still support you, but I came here for your very special history videos and I would like to see you go back to what made you unique on youtube.

Shunja776

Are history-related videos in danger? If not, then I see no problem with some innocent video-gamey shenanigans on the side.

Fluffy Beaver

I think that you are hitting a brick wall with history as it is hard for you to be creative. I think taking a break and doing something else will help you relax a little and do something you enjoy.

Joseph Voda

I'd like for you to do more history! I (and alot of others) really enjoyed the Defenestrations of Prague vid, because it was so clear that it was made out of genuine enjoyment of the subject, and that it was some that was fun making. So i think alot of people would enjoy more stuff like that! One offs, smaller series and stuff like that about different historical subjects. I think what made unbiased history so popular was that there really was nothing like it anywhere else, so i honestly think that continiung unbiased history (although different subjects) in a way that you find fun would be the best option. However if that isn't possible i think most people would support it.

Jamie the Moneymaker

I somewhat like the approach you're going for, but I HIGHLY recommend this being a second channel only thing as I feel like this will tarnish your brand as a "history" channel. With that being said, however, I think you should primarily focus on history related topics as a whole (because that 's your brand and all), and put your side gigs into "Dovahhatty II", because your Portal sample does feel like your content, but having another channel makes sure that pleases both old and new fans alike.

Abin Jaimon

Personally I love the history content, but you're also a funny dude with good quality videos so I'm sure you could make many things work. As others say the best for us would be to do a mix, but please take time for yourself as well, if you don't feel like history videos will be fulfilling for you then you do you and you will grow a support base any way (:

AzzaRudders

I would support, but on a separate channel/only if it's a side gig. I'm here for history content. There's many Youtubers that do video game analysis'. That being said, I did notice in your Portal blurb that classic Dovah snark, but to a much lesser degree. Don't get me wrong, if it's a dream of yours do it. The income you may lose with history fans would likely be recouped by your new content. I'd recommend (take this with a grain of salt because I'm a stranger on the internet that gives you $1.50 a month, which is like half the price of a coffee) but a good in-between short/medium term would be to do history oriented games. This way you can find your footing while pleasing both audiences.

Electricjars

I’m mostly here for history, if the historical content dried up I don’t think I would be willing to pay.

Not_Not_A_Robot

I'd support just about anything you did. You're a fantastic creator and your content always has loads of rewatchability.

Olsonus Maximus

I think the general consensus, and certainly my own, is that what we became patrons for is your unique take on whatever content you're making. Doing long-form games criticism is still Dovahhatty content. So we're in. But I hope to see you also explore more history, movies/series, and anything else that catches your fancy as well along the way. Godspeed, Dovahhatty

Scott Gresham

Of course we would. But please, continue with history as well.

Stephanius Saccus

I’m definitely ok with this. Long-form (especially hours long) content is something I get a lot of use out of (See: History of Rome Podcast and Hardcore History), and I love the thought of you dipping your toes into it.
