"The Talk"

Hey everyone, it's about time to address the giant mammoth in the room.

Summary:  I've been very burned out on the old animation style, and have been trying new kinds of videos, clearly taking inspiration from others to try and find the best way to make unbiased videos on interesting stuff.  The road for a youtuber to suddenly change content is often very painful and a huge gamble, with his audience, the algorithm, and more, but I gotta take it. To all those that subscribed solely and only for the old style of meme animations, I suggest you cancel your donations, because there is none coming in the near future, and likely ever again. I love the content I did it the past, but it's not one I could have done forever. I wish you the best, and that some of you will enjoy what's to come.  Thank you. Plus video voting is coming back :D

Long Answer:

As you well know, I've been doing different kinds of videos recently. Namely the Israel, Morrowind, Game of Thrones, and now Elden Ring videos. Contrary to the meme animations I did at the start and most of my channel's lifetime, they are highly edited summaries/reviews of either historical or fictional stuff. that take very clear inspiration from other youtubers.

I wanted to finally address the main questions that i know have been circulating about the channel, me, and future vids:

"Why the change?"

That's a long answer.

The initial idea to make a meme based history of Rome was a momentary passion project at the start, very low quality, but eventually grew into quite a series. After it finished, it had by then gathered such an enormous patreon following that despite the videos being unmonetizable on YouTube due to copyrighted use, I was able to live through the donations.  The incentive was so great in fact. that I started doing Byzantine history, even though I very much didn't want to. Both because I wasn't as passionate about it, and cause i knew it'd be limited by what kind of humor I was able to employ. It was taking increasingly more out of me, I was getting very burned out, and most of all, the format itself became extremally dull to me.

This might be shocking to hear, but there are only so many chad & wojak faces you can draw slightly different facial features for before it becomes very stale. I also saw little future for it. I had tried imagining myself still doing rageface meme animations in the modern day, and speculated what the future of these animations would be.  I was already seeing it in many channels that based their videos in content like it.

Even with the stupendous patreon support I was getting, the animation process became so unbearable to me I couldn't do it anymore. The culmination of it was the failed post-heraclius video, which, about 75% through it, as I tried to make something that would comply with youtube's restrictive norms around the topic at hand,  the video ended up so unfunny, so unworthy of watching for me that I couldn't bear to post it. Thats what happened to it. It was never finished. It's not in a secret bunker somewhere, it's a pile of unfinished assets.

"Why the new videos?"

The new videos were experiments, each one of them. The Israel one the most of all. I had looong wanted to make an unbiased vid on Israel, but something interesting. The style takes a lot of Sseth in its case. I wanted to test if I could make something entertaining, with the same Unbiased spirit, but in a far more comedic way. Despite being slapped with a age-restriction for while, the vid did well.

Then came the Unbiased Reviews, each and attempt to do an unbiased take on fictional topics. An idea that had long marinated in my head, and it feels great to actually try them out in the wild. Recently with my limited sample size they have done well as well, but even so, the matter of the patrons becomes paramount.

"What about me? I donated because of the animations."

That is most you, I believe. You subbed because you like one of my more popular animations videos and wished to support me for more. I am immensely grateful for it, its because of the handful hundred people like you that there was a roman series, and byzantine mini series at all. Thank you, truly.

This reality is still true, though. Even though I've been making new videos that actually bring in YouTube money, the Patreon and Subscribestar donations are still the bulk of what makes me a living each day, given I haven't done any sponsorships.

I know that were it me donating money to a creator for a specific kind of content, and he suddenly changed gears to something else I don't care for, I'd likely stop donating. Do not feel any restraint in doing so. You have no obligation to support content you don't care for. It is in fact a little bit harmful to said creator, as it gives him/her a kind of false depiction of what the actual donation support in offer is, you know? Its still kind to do so, but it has its costs.

I wish I could still make the content you all have donated for, but I can't. I tried, I actually really did try, but couldn't. The channel is changing, hopefully for the better I hope, and it means the patreon support will change as well.

"Whats Next?"

Hard to say, really. With the new format of Unbiased History/Reviews I could make videos ranging from the War of the Roses, Warhammer 40k, LOTR, Scientology, and far more. I'm currently curious on doing a few more games, like Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim, as well as new releases, but the sky is the limit really.

I've been wanting to restore the voting powers to patrons for a long time now, and with this new structure it will be far easier to do so. So why not start today? I'll be posting a new vote right after this post between two highly asked for video topics, and hopefully it will be the standard for the channel again, restoring agency to donators.

Conclusion:

Thank you all for the support, it allowed it to pursue a huge passion project of mine, taught me a lot about content creation, both positives and negatives, helped me get enough courage to try and follow my passion. If this is goodbye to some you, I wish you all the best. And for those that will stay, I hope I'll make your continued support worth it.

Cheers.

I hope you don't mind others taking up that torch, though. Besides, I still enjoy your content and will stick around for the future.

And the stories. Oh the stories he told! He made us fall in love with Aetius and Aurelian.

It wasn't the actual animation style of the old videos that made them worth Patreon support, it was the style of humor. Much of yt historical content has basically no edge as it's made to be played in classrooms. Unbiased history was different. The Chad, virgin, and wojak memes were fun but the core of my enjoyment came from the edgy humor with primers for further delving into the history thrown in. I enjoy the reviews, but my vote is definitely for historical topics in the new style. I absolutely loved the Israel vid.

Logan Bryant

Pity. Truly an end of an era. I wonder if you would see a future in it if instead of chads and wojaks it was actually more realistic illustrations or actual images of the characters. This would be more difficult though.

Duke Skibbington

I am gonna stay, even though I would prefer more historical shitposts over even the most interesting fictional settings, and all the topics after Morrowind were "meh" for me. But the New Vegas video will probably be next, and I am curious about your take on that one. So yeah, you do you, I might not be interested in everything you produced but from time to time you gonna drop something for me and that will be enough.

Fluffy Beaver

I'm here for the man behind this stuff. As long as you continue to make entertaining shitposts, no matter the form, I will stay.

Jiggly

Hey, do you bro. A man can only do different versions of the same memes for so long. The originals will always hold a special place but as long you're true to your roots there is nothing wrong with branching out.

Thank you for this message. It's nice to see a content creator being honest with his supporters. And yes, I am among those who surbscribed mainly due to thr old animation style. I'll be honest, I am a bit saddned by these news, but pressuring you into something you don't wanna do anymore would taste bittersweet at best anyway. Even though I don't watch these new videos as much as I did with the older ones, the reason isn't rrally that I don't like them, just that they're about topics I am not really interested about (but that Israeli vid was really good though). But I would be eternally grateful for LOTR or Star Wars videos as I love these two franchises. Also, it's nice hearing you talk about how you're still passionate about history. It would be nice to see some historical videos from time to time (but again, only if you want to). Well, I think this is getting long enough. I'll still keep supporting you as you're someone with (in my opinion) incredible potential and, as I've said before, you're honest. So, keep up the good work 😉

While im certain that my Patreon sub will be removed, im still gonna wait monthly for your new YT bc i can sense the passion in it. Even though i wanted to see more "animated" esq videos, even I knew that you lost your passion midway through the Roman series. Still, i cant help but wonder about the great "what ifs" from your writing and style. Shame that i have to end it like this, though i wish you the best of luck in your future endavors though.
