Patreon Video - Episode 11 - Basic Texturing

In this video I  wanted to show you guys something a bit more beginner friendly. Even though simple UV mapping is something quite fundamental, I think many might not know fully how to use it. It is something I didn't start looking into until relatively recent.

I think this has gotten a lot easier in the latest versions of C4D. Not sure if you could do all this in older versions but I really love texturing my objects by selecting polygons, looking through the correct camera angle and then using frontal projection to uv unwrap those selected polygons. It just make so much sense and makes the process quite enjoyable.

Instead of unwrapping and exporting some super clean uw map I can instead just paint a texture in Photoshop that has all the elements I imagine I will need and then in C4D grab the bits that works best out of that texture.

I hope this is something you guys find interesting even though it might be a bit basic.  I am not sure what your level in these software's are. Would be really interesting to hear what software's you guys use. Also please feel free to suggest other topics I can cover in upcoming videos.

Great! I saw your render on Instagram! Looked great!

Olof this is great stuff! Going through this helped me navigate cinema4d easier.

Thanks man :)

I look forward to the video. Ill rewatch all previous episodes and see if I missed that part. Thank you so much and I wish you success with your upcoming film

Sure! Ill include that next time Ill make a video on animation. Have some bits in the making 👍

Fantastic. Can you please please show us how to export and paint in photoshop. It would change everything. How do I render and import to photoshop . I would truly appreciate it

Oh cool! Yeah I think that used to be the method, to export a tidy uv map with all the elements unwrapped. This is a bit more interactive and cut and past like, which I enjoy. Nice! Yeah I always wait a bit before updating. Have had a bunch of issues with r22 too so been using both r21 and 22 recently. I got this terrible bug that kills my file sometimes when I save.( Crashing and corrupts the file) Worst bug ever. The brushes are from Dave Greco. But to be honest I should make myself a bunch more grungy brushes and share with you guys here. Will let you know!

I like how you don't conform to a normal UV workflow - I used to go through outputting the wireframe of the UV map to a file and paint it in photoshop. I like your method better. Less time wasted and more time streamlining your process. On top of that R23 just came out and they have snapping in the UV editor now (not going 100% R23 until all my plugins I use work first). Just one question - where can I get those brushes?
