Pandemic Pause on Patreon Charges

Hey guys.  I'm just letting you know that I've put a pause on all Patreon charges right now.  The content will continue, and nothing will change.  I'm just doing this because I'm well aware that many people are in some nasty financial straits right now with the whole pandemic thing.

As for me, don't worry about me.  I'm lucky that I can work from home on my day job and get paid during this time.  My wife's in the same situation, getting her full salary, so we are in a better financial situation than many.  And that's why I paused the donations: I can't in good conscience take people's money at this time, knowing that many of those people have it WAY worse than me.

Once the whole COVID-19 situation blows over, I'll resume the Patreon charges, but not until then.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and keep in contact.  I appreciate and am thankful for all of you and your constant support over the years.  The Puck's continuing unabated, so enjoy.

Pandemic Pause on Patreon Charges Pretty Pleasant for we Pecunious Penny-Pinchers

I'm lucky to have a job that hasn't been hit hard yet, so I'm glad to be able to continue my pledges to you and others here.

Yeah, lots of people are in that situation where they haven’t been cut but their field is contracting. My brother works in architecture but the future is probably going to be dim for him because, as he says, the first thing companies and organizations think when a financial crisis hits is, “Well, let’s not build that big shiny new building now.” Take care of yourself and I wish you health and happiness in these times of hardship.

I thought I would be in good shape since I was getting my full salary and working from home, but a week and a half into working from home, we found out that a bunch of customers had delayed projects, and some investors had lost a lot of money and weren't chipping anymore in during the crisis, so all of us got a paycut for 3 months here. I actually made a big spreadsheet and had to cut half of my patreon donations and note them down in the spreadsheet to resubscribe after the paycut had ended. Thanks for suspending it, it's just another small amount that I don't need to cut. (I actually kept the pledge to you as part of the half that I kept.) The government check we get this year will only cover about 1/3rd of the amount I lost. :(

Well, thanks. And I know a lot of creative types who are in a bad position due to this whole pandemic thing., so keeping up the donations to other people is a good thing. Ad revenue for internet types is down, and musicians and performers are hit hard due to the lack of concerts and performances and stuff. They need the money. At the moment, I just think other people need it more.

ElectricGecko

Well, the times, they are rough. So I wanted to be conscientious of that.

Like you, I am lucky to work from home and be considered "Mission Essential", so my contributions won't change. I figure some of the people I support need it.

Cats don't "do" money, but my human pet "Baldie" is fine. Not really any worse than usual. Even the "poor" do pretty well in the USA. He lives a lot like the Goodfellows, in fact. And he's getting $1200 Stimulus Bonus soon. But $5 is $5, so thank you.

I know that probably 60% of my patrons are like me and aren’t having any financial problems, but I want to save the 40% that are having problems the awkwardness of saying something or cancelling their donation or whatever. Thank you, though, for your constant support and kind words. Keep safe and be well.

ElectricGecko

You and yours keep well, friend.

Looks like my comment got dropped. I am a hospital therapist, so not losing a paycheck any time soon. This is an amazing gesture for your fan base, though not needed for me. Your strip is amazing and one of the ones I most look forward to thank you.

My income is SS and savings, so it doesn't hit me in the pocketbook, either. My son and his wife are still working, but, unfortunately, not at home, so their kids are staying in the county with an aunt. He takes them groceries, and waves to them through the window. We. have enough food and necessities for at least 2 more weeks, and then it gets dangerous, as we ask others to do our shopping. Not that I blame the Chinese for this, but they have a saying: "May you live in interesting times" which many do not recognize as what it is: a curse.

I just thought that this whole pandemic thing will put a lot of people in a situation where they feel they need to cancel their Patreon donations, and then it's all awkward, and they feel bad, but they don't want to say anything, and ... I just want to avoid all that. I know so many people who work in retail and they're really, REALLY hurting. For the small business people who don't run grocery stores or takeout places it's murder.

ElectricGecko

Well, in that case, I'm DOUBLING my monthly donation ! Just kidding. Appreciated.
