TVD 5x12 FULL UNCUT REACTION

Here we go, this episode was better for Caroline but a step back with Damon.

TVD 5x12 FULL UNCUT REACTION

Comments

But a very much needed essay section.

Meagan

Couldn't agree more with every word. Reading that reminded me of my comments about the show defending my characters and ships when it aired live trying to get people to see and understand exactly what you just wrote.

Meagan

Literally what I've been saying about my favorite character since this show aired. Preach

Meagan

Katherine really pissed me off this episode. She broke my Damon's heart once again. 😣 I agree with you about Caroline and Stefan. Their friendship and bond is so cute. Tyler has become such an annoyance since the second half of season 3 and I wouldn't mind if he were to leave the show either.

Bria Bey

Beautiful Hazel!!! Agree with every single word you said on Damon, Elena and this story.

Claudio Cristovao

My word. These essays! Lol

Charlie

This is more like an essay section than a comment section XD Damn!!

Now onto Elena.....You say Elena's not the person to call Damon out on his BS...Are we watching the same show? All throughout seasons 1-3 Elena has called Damon out on his shit.....When Elena found out Damon killed the Whitmores she was visibly upset difference being Elena is NOW a vampire, she TOO has killed so the Elena we are seeing NOW isn't making excuses for Damon...She's UNDERSTANDING him she KNOWS what Damon was feeling at that moment in time, she KNOWS what it feels like to LOSE everything, to lose yourself, while having nothing to live for in return....Elena was exactly like Damon when she lost her brother her emotions were turned off, didn't have a care in the world, NOTHING mattered to her it took Damon to bring her back by using Matt as the emotional trigger....So whatever Katherine told Damon completely goes against what Elena's character stood for. If you look at the context...What Katherine was SAYING is completrly opposite of what Damon was DOING....Let's rewind back to the first half of season 5 Damon was the good boyfriend, big brother towards Jeremy (Damon does genuinely care for Jeremy w/o Elena's assistance), tried to bring his brother back after he found out Stefan was locked away in a safe (again w/o Elena's assistance) worked to bring Bonnie back, etc... Of course a PART of Damon wanted to this for Elena but another PART of Damon wanted to do it for himself too...Mystic Falls and the people who live there has become Damon's home, something to live for, someone to build his future with etc...Damon has changed for himself and for Elena too...Changing for Elena isn't a bad thing...You do that for people you love...They ignite that feeling inside you....A feeling that makes you want to live and do and be better...You need that support system to back you...Damon FINALLY had that he's NOW at a place feeling as if that part of him had been stripped from him....So in Damon's mind what is there to live for other than deconstruct, pick up the pieces, deal with the consequences and try and build from there? Damon had NO idea his girlfriend was in danger, he had NO idea it was Katherine who told him those terrible things INSIDE his girlfriends body, he had NO idea WHY Elena was running into his arms frantically/anxiously yelling out his name just to be near him...ALL he knows is what he THOUGHT Elena had told him. This is yet ANOTHER obstacle for Damon/Elena and Delena as a whole...Delena will have to self evaluate and figure out wherever it is they stand. That is the essence of Delena...They grow together...They don't drift apart...Damon right now just needs to believe in Elena's love for him...Know that Elena knew who she wanted to be with when she announced it on graduation night...The young stubborn woman who TOLD him she was IN LOVE and was NOT sorry for it....The strong woman who chose to KILL Jessie in order to save his life...Elena is all in this with Damon...Damon just has to believe it.....And Juli....You need to believe in them too.

I feel you don't understand Damon, Elena OR Delena at all. Let's start with Damon.... Damon’s darkness was fostered by the darkness of others. It was instilled in him by outside forces, drawn up from the depths of his soul in captivity and torture, betrayal and manipulation. Damon wasn’t born a monster. He was turned into one by the monstrous acts inflicted on him. Stefan’s darkness is NOT the same. It was not brought out of him through physical and psychological trauma. It was let loose by his transition. It was the product of his heightened emotions and enhanced personality. Which means he WAS born with it. He carried it inside him all his life, and was unable to fight its allure because it was magnified by his vampirism. Stefan was the first to revel in his vampirism, first to kill their father, first to convince his brother to drink human blood. Damon's life has been a continuous hell. He spent 145 years being deceived by a sociopathic selfish bitch who ruined him and his brother, got them killed and drove them apart. For nothing but her own amusement. He was turned against his will because his brother didn’t want to live forever without him. He was held captive and tortured everyday for five years, treated like little more than an animal. He spent over fifty years void of all humanity and personal connection. And he wouldn’t take any of it back because it brought him to Elena. Every ounce of misery, every bad choice, brought him to that abandoned road behind the falls where he met the real love of his life, the true purpose of his immortal existence, Elena. So when you say things like "Damon is being the psychopath we ALL know he is" is completely misunderstanding his character...Damon is the anti hero he WILL slip up...The writers have done this all of the time with Damon when he falls...He falls hard but he rises to the occasion when needed. You say that Damon needs to be good for HIM not for Elena....He's BEEN doing that...He was just fine playing pool by himself not trying to kill anyone earlier in the episode...He didn't start looking for her UNTIL Caroline and Stefan showed up trying to "babysit" him  because they were EXPECTING Damon to screw up and go on a murderous spree. They were EXPECTING the worse from him and Stefan damn near convinced Damon to get back with Elena just SO he wouldn't kill anybody you would think half way in season 5 Stefan would have more faith in his brother.....So when you really factor all of that in It's really not a surprise why Damon killed Aaron...He's proving to himself and to everyone what's EXPECTED of him. Katherine just triggered the self doubt and hatered Damon has with himself she knows what his emotional trigger is, she knows what buttons to press so she does it vicariously by being Elena because she KNOWS that "Elena" not believing in Damon and basically cutting Damon OUT of her life WILL cause him to go off the deep end ...Elena was that ONE person Damon thought would ALWAYS believe in him...She was that ONE person who expected the GOOD in him not the bad, that one person who ENCOURAGED him to BE the better man. So when you have that ONE person you thought would always be there for you but does a complete 180 that WILL mess with your head. And comparing Stefan's level of maturity to Damon is silly...Throughout vampirism Stefan has had Lexi, Elena, Caroline, Bonnie, Grams etc...to keep him grounded...He's had people in his corner be there for him and believe in him even after he's recklessly killed thousands he's had Elena making excuses for him, being deemed the "good" Salvatore etc. It's easy to be sane and level headed when you have that kind of support backing you. Damon had NONE of that....His father hated him, he was ALWAYS the 2nd choice, he was use to wandering the world ALONE completely void of humanity, he was use to people expecting him to screw up etc...He had NO ONE in his corner so really when you factor all of this in what was there for Damon to look forward to? Who was there for him when he had his bad breaks? Who was there for him when he needed words of encouragement?

Elena can't get a break fml

OK REACTION JULI, sorry for the. long rants on Damon and Katherine LOL <3 <3

Now lets talk about Damon!! I also foolishly believed that the writers were done having Damon act impulsively and irrationally. This story annoyed me so much in my first viewing but now I get it!! It's all for plot, writers will redeem characters when it's convenient and and will regress when it's convenient for the story as they've done multiple times with Damon, Caroline, Stefan and Klaus on The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. I said a lot of the same words you did at the time Juli. "The writers need to stop this back and forth with Damon" "Elena can't be the only thing he fights for or hangs on for to be good" "I want Damon and Elena to have some space so they can both deal with it and decide where they want to go from there" I questioned if it was a tactic to end Damon and Elena's relationship for good or it would be the defining thing that would cause Damon to stop and start acting a little bit more rationally and less erratically. He's a little like Klaus in the sense that if you hurt him or disappoint you he acts out and does something crazy. For Klaus that means daggering his siblings or destroying whatever happiness they have in their lives, for Damon that usually means going crazy and doing something outrageous and crazy... like killing people. They do this because they don't know how to deal with this. Damon and I am not defending his behaviour in this episode or the next because what he did is really messed up just like I was really angry for a few episodes when he snapped Jeremy's neck in season 2. But Damon has a history of being abandoned which will be explored more later on and he just doesn't know how to deal with that. For whatever you want to say about Elena she was THE ONLY person to see the good in him, the only person to believe he was worth loving so when that person tells you "This is who you are, this who you will always be" and close the door definitely on you it has to hurt a lot especially when it's someone you love. And one for one Damon has always been irrational and impulsive, and to be really fair he has not done anything terrible since season 2. He was fine from seasons 3-5 until the whole this. But then THE PLOT DEMANDED FOR DAMON TO BE DARK AGAIN because the writers love twisting things around, they love going back and forth on certain arcs and for some reason believe that the audience wants to see Damon be that bad boy all the time, which is partly true to some degrees. He never be 100% the Hero, he will always be the ANTI-HERO because we already have a HERO character in Stefan, we need the contrast between the two brothers. Also Juli you can't really compare Damon to Stefan, they weren't treated the same way, the weren't loved in the same manner by people and even their parents, Stefan is always the preferred one (The Hero), the chosen one to everyone. As you said Stefan CAN deal with his emotions, Damon CANNOT he's said this a million times in season 2 and 3. Damon is perpetually lost, insecure, he only believes that there is darkness and evil in him and in this moment he's just decided to wear the mask everyone always attributes to him, the mask of the monster. He's trying to prove this to others and mostly to himself. And why wouldn't he believe that Stefan was secretly happy, STEFAN STRAIGHT UP LOOKED HIM IN THE EYES IN SEASON 4 AND SAID Elena was so blind that she didn't see how wrong he (Damon) was for her. Yes Stefan changed his tune but that only happened recently lol. And I do believe that Stefan is being sincere and altruistic. This is not black and white or a case of just be good or be bad and sticking with it for Damon. It's like a an addiction. Stefan has his ripper issues and Damon has his darkness a darkness that we've never seen in him as a human but somehow he developed over the years of loneliness and wrecking havoc. Yes he needs to grow, yes this decisive moment, yes Elena is not the only thing he should cling on too but she was literally his only life-raft in this ocean of darkness he lives in. I think in his core Damon is motivated by love, and he loves blindly and recklessly which is not always a good thing. Elena understood that back in season 1 and she always understood him in a way better than Stefan ever had. And as I once commented on one of your videos on YouTube Damon is always hanging in the balance of being a hero and being somewhat villainous. I do believe he has good in him, he just needs to believe it!! And this is also plot to cause drama!! The question is how he comes out of it and what it means for the Damon of future seasons.

Claudio Cristovao

The first time I watched this when it originally aired, which I believe was early 2014 as the 100th episode was in January, I had a lot of issues with the storyline not only because it caused such a huge character regression in Damon as it destroyed Katherine's character for me and her damage remained permanent, at least in my eyes. But if we're really thinking about it and being honest this is IN CHARACTER for Katherine, it's 100% what she'd do under the guise of 'survival' I just foolishly expected better from her, I expected a redemption storyline for Katherine since she was now a human being. But let's be honest she's always been a horrible selfish person. She claimed to love both Stefan and Damon (granted she did admit to loving Stefan more, or her love for Stefan endured while her love for Damon ended) but she abandoned them both for over 145 years. It's a truly tragic thing between Damon and Katherine because he honest to God loved her, more than Elijah who chose Klaus, more than Stefan who just couldn't deal with loving a "monster" and opted for her pure and human doppelgänger (Elena). But unfortunately Damon's love didn't mean much to her, and it turned to hate, they sometimes worked together, sometimes were allies, sometimes plain enemies as they are this season. IT'S WHATEVER THE WRITING WANTS IT TO BE, they don't care much about consistency on this show. It's just so tragic to see what this relationship turned into because if you really take a look at it it's so much more complex and raw and complicated than Stefan and Katherine EVER where. He wanted to die for her when she was taken "Then let me be killed" (1X14) as the men took her away to be burned at the church and HE had to convince Stefan to help him save Katherine lol!!! "Katherine is gone there is no word without her" (1X20) he wanted to be a vampire to be with her forever, while Stefan was the one with reservations and needed to be compelled meanwhile Damon was completely bewitched and possessed by this irrational, compulsive and almost obsessive love. He asked Emily to protect the tomb so that the vampires and Katherine who he believed were inside wouldn't perish in the fire. I was so shook to learn in the episode 1912 (3x16) that Damon had been celibate for Katherine for 48 years lol "I do not need a woman for pleasure, I am spoken for" and it was Sage who changed that and taught him new ways. He did everything he could to get her out of that tomb and in the end it was all for NOTHING!! So to see the level of hatred and indifference they have towards each other is so tragic. In his mind he earned the right to torture her and do all those horrible things to her as she was dying BECAUSE HE OUT OF EVERYONE!! WAS THE ONE MOST HURT BY HER ACTIONS BECAUSE HE LOVED HER AND IT WAS A WASTE OF 145 YEARS OF HIS LIFE. I hated this storyline for destroying the richness of the backstory of 1864, the richness of season 1-2, the richness of Damon Salvatore and Katerina Petrova/ Katherine Pierce of the past and I never shipped them together, I just wanted better for them. I wanted Katherine to find redemption in Nadia, her daughter. But this story had Katherine acting like a 14-year-old school girl with a crush and stripped away badass Katherine who used to be on my Top 3 favourite characters along with Damon and Klaus. I hate this storyline for the horrible characterisations that we've had. I honestly believe that she's using Nadia, she may care for her a little but that Katerina who believed that "If we cease to believe in love then why would we want to live at all" (2x19) and yearned for her daughter died in the 1400s time we got to 1864 she was completely gone, and turned cold and manipulative granted smart. Katherine's one of the smartest characters in the TVD/TO universe except in the storyline LOL Her love for Stefan much like Damon's love for Katherine is just so complicated and almost obsessive.
