So she couldn’t just leave them there for hours or days because once the moon left she wouldn’t have the strength to keep them there. Also she was running into Mystic Falls to escape Kai and his powers so she wouldn’t have had any magic to keep them in there.

It's usually to protect someone he cares about or to defend himself. Enzo, just this season, has killed 3 innocent people just to be an ass. Also, Matt's ring doesn't work anymore because it was connected to The Other Side,
