thats exactly what i thought too. caroline was already thinking of turning it off, but she was hoping that if stefan had stepped up maybe she'd have a reason to feel. but he gave her the wrong idea about his feelings and she believed he didn't feel that way about her. her unrequited love story was just another thing in the pile of her pain, it wasn't the entire reason she turned it off

I feel like with Caroline, she didn't say that she was switching her humanity off because of Stefan. It's like if someone were trying to commit suicide, they have all their problems that they're dealing with but if one person, that one right person, comes and says the right thing and talks them out of it then they may give it another chance. So with Caroline, she just needed Stefan, the right person, to say the right thing and talk her out of it.

OMG, Elena did not turn off her humanity, Damon made her. Everyone keep saying about Elena's hupocricity, but NO. She lost all her relatives and delt with her pain on her own, she only erased her memories about Damon, that was it.

I'm the first one to criticize Elena, but I agree. Elena did not choose to flip her humanity switch. The erasing memories, sure, but she isn't responsible for what happened with her humanity off

Elena was not being a hypocrite she genuinely tried to help Caroline...Also didn't like how you tried to compare Elena's emotional state to Caroline's....Both were emotionally vulnerable and Elena was sired to Damon when she had her switch flipped it's not like she chose to do that.

Damon told Stefan it‘s not true love so Stefan later used the same word. „Maybe it isn‘t true love in the messy way we‘ve experienced it but I think this could turn into sth even better“. He means that they might have experienced true love before but it was super messy and intense. This isn‘t like that and it doesn‘t mean that that‘s bad. It can be even better. He‘s not saying what him and Caroline could have isn‘t true love but that it‘s different and potentially better becausr this time he‘s in love with his best friend so it‘s different. It‘s not love at first sight, destiny kinda love. It might not be as intense but instead of seeing that in a negative way as Damon did, he sees this as sth better and that is what changes with Stefan throughout this episode. He realizes that he can‘t bear the thought of losing Caroline and wants to be with her despite his brother‘s advice

and also, stefan talking about his feelings for caroline wasn't saying "oh idk ill just give it a shot" its more showing that him - a guy who's been alive for so many years and has met many women and fell in love and seems like he's the wisest of them all - doesn't understand his feelings for Caroline. bc she did that to him. i think its honestly beautiful that someone like stefan would be totally baffled at what he's feeling bc he doesn't understand it. He realizes during the funeral, you can kinda tell when she's singing, that he was wrong before, the reason he was confused isn't bc he doesn't feel the same way, its because he does love her but he hasn't felt this type of love before. He used to romanticize love so much as "true love" (which was what he believed him and elena had + cause they're soulmates or whatever according to the travelers) and he never considered that there could be something greater than that. Something that he can't describe or identify at first sight but understands more and more as it goes on - which is honestly the type of love that lasts. It's the same thing Elena felt about Damon, she had more time to ponder over her feelings but she was also confused because she couldn't understand that it was greater than what she felt for Stefan (which was also true love). It took time for her to realize that her love for Damon was undefinable but so much more than what she had ever had before, just like Stefan does for Caroline

just got around to watching your review and i totally agree with you about caroline turning her humanity off - can you really blame her? i know ppl say that other characters have suffered too and everything but the thing is, pretty much everyone has had a rampage or a low point where they screwed up and caroline has pretty much always seen them come out of that and see them fix themselves. it reminded me of her yelling at tyler in season 5, where she was demanding why he expected her to always stay moral when she had the same urges as normal vampires and had proven that she wasn't perfect. I'm really excited for you to see no-humanity caroline bc out of all the vampires we've seen so far, she's never turned it off. she's been in control of her urges since season 2 when she first turned and stefan helped her out. obv it kinda sucks bc stefan was just about to tell her he wanted to be with her but y'know - it's the vampire diaries.

Stefan died at 17 and Damon around 24-25 :)

THIS EPISODE WAS SO EMOTIONAL LMFAO and it def won't be the last time you cry during season 6. I think Stefan saying "it's not true love" isn't negating true love's existence, i think he was saying that it's not the fairytale love he's felt before for elena or katherine. it's different and in his words "it could turn into something even better". he's basically saying his feelings for caroline exceed anything he's had before. the reason it took him longer to realize it was because he thought for the longest time that elena was it for him, and before that he thought it was katherine. he thought unless he felt the same for caroline, it wasn't actual love and didn't wanna lead her on like that. but of course, he definitely does love her and he realized it a little too late. i can't wait for you to go through the rest of the steroline roller coaster.
