Among the most prominent of the hundreds of themes running through the book series is 'free will' and if the 'end justifies the means'. Having read the books before seeing the show i couldnt tell if they did an acurate job of conveying it, since i knew of them before hand, but you picked up on both, very cool, so i guess the makers of the show did good.
