After you react to Maze Runners and Pitch Perfect, my suggestions are Lord of the Rings or Pirates of the Carribean. It's one of the best movie series of all time and you should watch it, if didn't do it yet. Besides, Amazon is going to shoot the TV series in the lord of the rings world, which can replace the game of thrones as a frontrunner of the genre.

Anton Nefedov

yea! Jude Law as Dumbledore was the best thing in this movie! I almost wished Dumbledore was not gay, but only almost hahahaha

Carine Allen

And yes, Dumbledore is gay, that is canon and was confirmed years ago and taking into account the story of the fight between him and Grindelwald when they were young, which caused Ariana's death (Dumbledore's younger sister) and the resentment of Aberforth (the brother we saw in the last HP movie) against Albus, so if you want to know more about this story I recommend reading the HP books, but at least in my opinion it is clear that Dumbledore loved Grindelwald romanticaly , but it has never been shown that Grindelwald felt the same way, but every time I watch this movie, I notice the scene in which Grindelwald talks to Queenie about "loving freely" and the face he does on the scene, every time I watch gives me a vibe that he was talking about someone specific (maybe that was intencioned for future films), but I'm not sure since by Grindelwald side was never confirmed by the author J.K. Rowling. Also, these films are not based on books, they are only inspired by the book "fantastic beasts and where to find them" that is just a book for studies. But the script for the film was writen by JK Rowling herself.

Carine Allen

First: Yes, that is the Elder wand, before it belonged to Grindelwald, remember that in the 7th film Voldermort goes to Grindelwald to ask about the wand and he is the one who tells him that is now with Dumbledore. Second, the brother we saw in the last Harry Potter film is Aberforth Dumbledore, not Credence, even HP fans who read the books did not know that Dumbledore had another brother, since he was never mentioned in the books, what caused some questions amoung the fans after this movie and some theories were created about the story, one even that Grindelwald is lying to manipulate him, but we will have to wait for the next film to know for sure.

Carine Allen

We actually learn quite a lot about Dumbledore's past (with his family and Grindelwald) in the last of Harry Potter books. Though it's not explicitly said in the book, it was later confirmed by the author, JK Rowling, that Dumbledore was gay and in love with Grindelwald. There are so many great little details in the books that never got to be seen in the movies, so I will forever recommend reading them ;)

Queenie falling for Grindelwald is actually my favorite part of the film. It's genius storytelling tbh. If you want to portray an ideology and hatred (standing in for real life political conflicts) like with Grindelwald and you want your audience to understand how persuasive and dangerous it is - the best way to achieve it is by using a fan-favorite character to underline it. Queenie is unhappy with the current state of the law, all she wants it LOVE, but it is denied. She's open to manipulation. And Grindelwald provides an answer. And we feel his darkness and his power much more by losing Queenie to his cause. Ugh. I could take about this for hours, LOL. I'm so in love with that story. Queenie is now my favorite character bc of it.

Julian

I think the following movies will answer all our questions about the true relationship they had. Because yes, it was never confirmed that Grindelwald loved Dumbledore back.

Julian

Yeah...silver-tongued bastard. ;-)

Well, Like I used to say, Grindelwald is more the kind of charismatic leader, who can charm anyone, even if we see that he's ruthless he is very tempting and persuasive, I liked that they made him that way because they're not one way to be a Dark Lord, or a bad Leader, he is like a leader from a sect or a cult, so he can twist an idea to thinking "well, after all, it's not that bad". He is very talented, thing that Voldemort used to be when he was younger, a little bit like this (charismatic) but growing up he became the tyrannical leader, the one who make people fear him instead of love him like Grindelwald try to, he can twist mind, even the kindest.

AnaΓ―s

Yes, it's will be so interesting to discover her story but I think she will go willingly to Voldemort, I don't know why and what happened to her between those two periods time but I think she kind of "turn bad" maybe because Credence will die by Albus hand? (Just a theory) but something turn her in the dark side and I'm exited to know what ...

AnaΓ―s

I also wondered if she caught the Nagini thing. When Credence said her name, I automatically went from hating that damn snake from "Harry Potter" to feeling so bad for her, "OMG, she used to be a person! And is CURSED to become that snake AND Voldermort turns her into a horocrux!!"

Thadman

Interesting. I guess I just assumed that Grindelwald felt the same way, but that is interesting if he didn't. Much more complicated.

Thadman

Grindelwald's rhetoric is VERY similar to things that white supremacists tell the general public to win them over to their side by saying they are for freedom and that they don't really hate the others, but just think of them as separate. "We're not white supremacists, we're white separatists." Then the longer they stay around and the more light you shine on them, the more they start pointing out WHY they're separate and spread propaganda about "the others" and "they" become dangerous or dirty or reason to fear them which of course, for those who didn't already feel it, justifies hatred toward them. You know that's what Grindelwald is doing here also because he says as much to the "evil hot French" lady that we don't say that out loud. It's what they want and what they feel, but they know it doesn't play well and turns people off. They KNOW that what they REALLY feel is unpopular and viewed as wrong and despicable, so they have to soften it and make it more palatable. On whether you should see these in the theater, I never have for the "Fantastic Beasts" movies. I tend to wait about a year after they're out (or a few months) and they come out on digital or Blu ray. I've never been spoiled and, obviously, neither were you. ;-) So, I would rather you wait for the blu ray 'cause that's when I will probably watch it.

Thank you so much for such another great reaction to a movie within the Harry Potter world. It was fun to watch over again with you. I enjoyed this movie, though I love the first movie even more. This one had a few disappointments to me, although I loved, loved, loved Jude Law as a younger Dumbledore. He played Dumbledore so well. He is what I loved most about this movie. Oh... and as for your question about Dumbledore's brothers... Aberforth is the name of the brother we see in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part II. Whereas as Credence is Aurelius Dumbledore... another brother. Next... my biggest disappointment of this movie is what happened with Queenie. I hate that she fell for Grindelwald's lies and was so forceful on Jacob. It's sad that he called her crazy and it was wrong, but he does truly love Queenie and wants to give her everything she wants. He is just afraid of what the ministry would do to Queenie if she were to go against the rules to marry a muggle. Jacob is afraid for her. I loved Jacob and Queenie together in the first movie, so to see them break up and part ways in this one was disappointing. Leta's story was sad, as was Credence's. However, I didn't really care for either of their characters. I understand Credence's role, and of course I feel so sad for him. I don't care anything for these characters, but I suppose they do add to the movie. Johnny Depp as Grindelwald was creepy and he acted well. And like you, I understood why so many people followed him because his lies are convincing. So were Hitler's and so many people blindly followed him too. It's scary. Overall... this movie was good. I still just think the first one was better and yet Dumbledore as always was brilliant and fabulous! Thank you again! Until next time...

Heidi Elizabeth Marcum

Yes she confirmed that Dumbledore was gay but I don't think she said that Grindelwald was too, he was very close to each other, yes, but I think Grindelwald didn't loved him back this way but more like a brother.

Great reaction like always, did Juli realize that Nagini, the woman who can transform in a snake was later in Voldemort service ? I think this will be very interesting to discover how a such good and fragile woman end up being the most trusted allie of Voldemort few years later. By the way the brother of Dumbledore who was in Harry Potter didn't call himself Aurelius like Credence but his name was Abelforth. I'm excited to see what will happen to all of them, it's kind of the origin story of Harry Potter and many of those characters, so I really liked it. Look forward to next reaction movie with Scorch Trials, Maze Runner.

I just watched this last weekend, so I could watch your reaction and it stuck with me and made me pretty sad. I liked the movie, but it left me very sad and I think it was the scene with Queenie leaving 'cause she did look like she was in pain and then was calm. I wondered if something of her burned away at that moment. Also watching it this time, I picked up that the dude that was with Grindelwald but burned up was probably a spy for Dumbledore and I also thought that Grindelwald targeted Queenie from the get-go, probably for her useful and rare mind-reading skill. Through this whole 2nd time viewing, when Grindelwald spoke, I say "That silver-tongued bastard." xD It was also funny how you were expecting EVERYONE to kiss yet kept questioning the Dumbledore/Grindelwald relationship. After the last HP book, J.K. Rowling confirmed that although she never mentioned it explicitly, Albus Dumbledore is gay and was always intended to be and that he and Grindelwald loved one another when they were young. These movies were written long after she revealed that, so most people that had read and kept up with her knew this going in and that was one draw about this, to see exactly what their relationship was, although this takes place after they've already had a falling out. I believe there is really quick shot in the original books/movies when Dumbledore was talking to Harry about the mirror, they show him look at the mirror and you quickly see a young Grindelwald. They never mention it nor explained it before.
