Thank you Heidi for this FANTASTIC recommendation. Thank you for supporting what I do here. I hope everyone enjoys this movie reaction as much as I did.
Another phenomenal movie, with phenomenal music. :) As is the stage production... The Phantom of the Opera Live at the Royal Albert Hall in England. So beautiful. I also saw this show on Broadway and loved every moment of it!!

Thank you so much for reacting to this movie for me, Juli!! I am so, so happy that you loved this movie and Jim Caviezel's performance in it so much. I hoped you would. I absolutely love him as an actor and I truly love time period piece movies like this because they're so beautiful and the stories are passionate and moving.
I love the novel, The Count of Monte Cristo. It's one of my favorite novels of all time, so I was thrilled when I heard that they were making a movie out of it, and even happier that Jim Caviezel was playing Edmond Dantes.
And the rest of the acting was phenomenal too. I mean... yes, Fernand Mondego, played by Guy Pierce, was definitely evil and creepy. His pride and jealousy became his downfall. And the end fight between him and Edmond was just so satisfying and amazing. I was on the edge of my seat and smiling from ear to ear. Also... in case you didn't recognize him, the Priest was played by Richard Harris, who played the original Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter movies before he died. He was a brilliant actor in his lifetime. Jacopo was played by Luis Guzman, who's in a ton of movies, though usually in more minor roles than he plays in this. This is one of his biggest roles and I loved him so much. He's so funny and his character definitely brings out the majority of the comedy shown in this movie too. Albert is played by Henry Cavil who is best known for playing Superman in the latest Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman movies. I don't care for these movies except for Wonder Woman which I really liked a lot, but I liked Henry Cavil a lot in this movie. He's a talented actor. And lastly... Mercedes is played by Dagmara Dominczyk. She's only ever guest starred in a few other shows I've seen and no other movies that I've seen, but I really loved her role in this movie too.
As for your comments about none of these characters recognizing Edmond when he came back into their lives as Monte Cristo... you have to realize that this movie took place in the time of Napoleon, when medicine was scarce and prisoners thrown away in cells such as shown in this movie typically died not long into their sentence, whether due to poor health, or suicide... as we saw Edmond attempt before he met Priest. Plus... everyone was told that Edmond was executed. So, of course no one would recognize him, even those closest to him. Mercedes did, but at times she kept seeing Monte Cristo as nothing more than a ghost coming to punish her. Because Edmond being alive was a miracle she couldn't believe. No one could believe that he survived all those years trapped in that kind of Hell.
And as for Edmond not knowing how to read, write, or swordfight... Again in those days, it was rare for anyone who was poor to have any kind of education or knowledge how to fight with a sword. Only the rich did unless the poor were fortunate to know someone who could teach them. Edmond and his family were extremely poor. That's why Fernand was so jealous. Because Fernand had wealth and power, yet not the love of a woman he coveted, or the happiness his poor friend had despite being poor.
Thank you again for reacting to one of my favorite movies of all time! You keep thanking me for my continued support, but I want to thank you for continuing to watch and enjoy the shows and movies I love so much! It means a lot to me to be able to watch all of your fun reactions.
Oh... and yes, the movie you mentioned you had also seen with Jim Caviezel and Jennifer Lopez is titled, Angel Eyes. Another phenomenal movie, as is the Passion of the Christ. And if you're looking for another movie recommendation for this month or at some point down the road... I have one more with Jim Caviezel that you have to see if you're interested. It's titled, Frequency and it also stars Dennis Quaid and Elizabeth Mitchell. I think you would absolutely love it as well and I would be thrilled to watch your reaction for it. :) I can't wait for more Person of Interest as well!!! Thank you, thank you again!! You're amazing, Juli! Until next time...
