Merlin 1x12 REACTION

This is one of the most frustrating episodes of this series. I completely disagree with Gaius about Uther. He says that Uther has brought peace to his kingdom but that is not true at all. A large portion of his kingdom are magic users who live in terror at being discovered and swiftly executed or watching their loved ones executed just for having magic. He is a bigot and a tyrant. Also, when it comes to the morality of "letting Uther die" I mean, really, letting him die is not killing him, and just because Gwen wouldnt take Uther's life, doesnt mean he deserves to live.

This series tackles a lot of issues that aren't strictly black and white, some real difficult issues of right and wrong and this is one of the first times we see it. At least after we met Mordred and were told by the dragon that he would get in the way of Merlin and Arthur's destiny. I really enjoy watching these types of situations play out throughout this show. :) Uther, I think, is a very difficult man. I'm not going to defend him as I think he is very hypocritical, stubborn, and set in his ways, but I understand what Gaius says about him too. I do think he does what he thinks is best for Camelot and his people, he's just blinded by hatred. I think he has a soft spot for Morgana, Arthur, and even Gaius a little bit which is why we see his more vulnerable side when he is with them. I don't think he really regretted killing Gwen's father either, I just think he regretted the effect it had on Morgana since he cares so much for her. And as much as the dragon is probably right, Camelot and those with magic would be better off without Uther, I also agree with Gaius that Arthur isn't ready yet, so it could be for the best that Uther wasn't killed here. I'm really loving your reactions to this series, I've rewatched it a few times but it's been a while so it's been a lot of fun watching it again with you! :)

Thank you, Juli. For fixing the sound issues. And thank you for another great reaction! I enjoyed this episode too, although not as much as I liked most of the others. I like Morgana and Guinevere a lot and this episode really brings out a side to both women we're not used to seeing, which is great. What happened to Guinevere's father is tragic and it certainly makes me hate Uther that much more. One of the best moments within this episode is when it showed who Morgana could become if she falls prey to her hatred toward Uther, as she came to plotting against the King with this sorcerer who wanted him dead. However, Uther's love towards her in the end tamed her anger and she saved him despite her alliance with the villain. My other favorite moment is when Merlin is speaking with Guinevere as he asks her if she would kill Uther for what he did to her father if given the chance. And I love that she answered no despite having every reason for wanting him dead. This shows how good and kind Guinevere truly is, and it shows how strong she is. I also love that her answer allows for Merlin to realize that he must save Uther despite what the Dragon tells him. Overall... it was a very good episode, so thank you for your reaction for it once again. :) One episode to go for season one!! Until tomorrow...

The only opinion I care about is mine and juli’s. She loved the movie and so did I. Also a billion dollars doesn’t seem like a flop.
