Its like telling a straight person "How do you know you're straight?" Have you ever slept with the same sex? You know what that would be met with? Probably a punch to the face or since I'm in the US probably a bullet to the head.

Me when I told my mom I was Asexual and she told me I haven't met the right guy yet. In one ear out the other, its very invalidating and hurtful and I feel bad for Bobby.

Whew it's been a minute since I saw this movie and even though I remembered what it was about it still had me balling my eyes out. Damn Sigourney Weaver for being such a good actress.

I had no idea the movie waw based on a novel. Im going to have to read it because i loved the journey of Mary in coming to terms with Bobby and even becoming active in the LGBTQ community.

Yes, ive seen this movie a few years back. I've only seen it that one time but i thought it was very powerful. I think a few things in the film could have been done a bit better but overall i enjoyed the film. I think the actors who played Bobby and Mary were phenomenal. Seeing this movie a second time with you had me balling my eyes out as well. I cried practically the whole second half of the movie. I knew the movie was based on a true story like most lifetime movies but i didn't know it was based on a novel. I might just have to purchase the novel for reading material and to understand Bobby's journey better.

So glad you thought so too! I will have to watch it tomorrow but I look forward to it <3 Thought it might hit a spot with you having a religious upbringing. The change this woman had because of what happened, losing her son. I don't remember if she says so in the movie but I recently re-read the book and in it she says (before his suicide) that she would rather have a gay son than a dead one (when she learns about him and the pills) I cried throughout most of the movie haha. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. Just curious (as I don't want to open the reaction at all until tomorrow when I can watch it) but did you watch the short little interview or video with the real Mary Griffith? Just thought it would be cool to see the real person, just makes it hit home all the more that this really happened, though obviously some stuff was removed and some added because it's a movie. In the book, for example, Bobby was promiscuous, even prostituting himself for a short period (though he had contradicting feelings about it). Powerful and sad movie, but she learned and recognized her ignorance and dedicated her life to help prevent more stories like Bobby's. I especially liked the line 'remember a child is listening' (which the real Mary said as well) because it's very true.
