The doctor and his sister were both in Season 2 of Arrow. She was the lady who was trying to take over the company and working with Slade. He was in 2 episodes as an explosives expert. Sheppard Book was in Season 1 of Agents of SHIELD as the doctor who did brain surgery on Coulson.

One other thing that I noticed, mainly 'cause they aired this ep last, was that although Mal (the captain) doesn't really have time for religion, at the beginning, during the war, he was religious 'cause he wore a cross and kissed it.

I didn't realize it at the time, but what Inara pulled out, in that box, when the Reavers were passing by was an injection that would kill her quickly in case the Reavers got them.

Considering the year it came out, the SPFX are pretty good. It was early 2000s.

"Companions" are very skilled in many different things. The reason they speak Chinese a lot (they never explain it on the show) is that the vision of the show from Joss was that in the future, it'd be logical that the two biggest superpowers on Earth would combine to become one government and that would be the U.S. and China.

I actually saw the movie first, then found out about the show so the pilot was not confusing to me cause I already knew the characters, but i like the kind of shows that just throw you into their world, it always makes it seem more real.

Yes, they actually aired this 2-hour pilot for the show at the end of the aired episodes, AFTER they'd cancelled it. They aired the 2nd episode (The Train Job) first 'cause the FOX execs didn't like it. Also, of the episodes filmed, they didn't air 4 of them. FOX treated this show horribly because they didn't want to air it, but Joss Whedon had enough clout to get it on 'cause of the success of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." The FOX execs at the time had the attitude of "Well, you may have gotten this on, but we don't have to advertise it or air it in the correct order." They basically sabotaged the show. When it got poor ratings, they could then blame the show and say they cancelled it because no one was watching. I watched when it aired 'cause I was a Joss Whedon fan and knew about it, but I think I saw one commercial for it before it aired. Not to mention, they aired it on Friday night, which was a death slot in the early days of the Internet and long before streaming services were a thing. It was over before most people even heard of it since they didn't advertise it. Yep, I'm still salty about it.

The title of the first episode is called "Serenity". "The Train Job" is the title of episode 2. You probably mixed them up since the reason the show was cancelled halfway through season 1 was becuase Fox infamously aired a bunch of the episodes out of order leaving the audience confused which resulted in low ratings. Also, there is a movie called Serenity that picks up where the finale left off to tie up loose ends
