It is so rare to get an episode devoted mostly to character development of the "Bad Guys". Even Azula gets a small scene to show that, in her own horribly misguided way, she does care about her brother. As the episode shows she can't even do the smallest things as far as social interactions in the real world.

Roku was his great-grandfather so his wife was actually Zuko's mother's grandmother, not her mother. I was like you and had to go back and go, "Wait, what? Run that by me again."

One thing I didn't realize until subsequent viewings was in 3x05 when Zuko goes back to his family's old place and he's remembering happy times as a kid. They are of his mother and of being with Iroh and Iroh's son, not any happy times with his own father. He thought of Iroh as more of a father than his own 'cause Iroh always treated him like a son. :'(

Wow I completely forgot about that plot twist with Avator Roku being Zuko's great-grandfather.. my mind is blown again. This show is just so damn good!!

That's my favorite aspect of Avatar! The richness of the story makes it so enjoyable even for adults. It's so well done! Glad you are enjoying it.

What I loved most about 305 is that we finally get to see the teenagers be all angsty and self-loathing like God intended. It’s really refreshing

The idea with Combustion Man (yes that is his name) is that he channels chi energy from his stomach, focuses it and channels it into his overdeveloped third eye through the tattoo on his forehead and it creates a bolt of energy that explodes on impact, hence his name. The showrunners said that when he was young, he couldnt control it at first which is why he has a few prosthetic limbs. But when he eventually did, he would then gain his reputation through a series of various firebending duels that clearly didnt last long. Also, we get to see that when Azula isnt controlling through fear, she doesn't know how to act around people
