The place they are is what could be seen as “true peace” I guess. The other side was nothing more then a purgatory that’s meant to either punish or trap supernatural creatures who can’t find peace. The place Jackson /Josh/Hayley are is where Lexi and Bonnie’s Grams went before the other side collapsed. It’s also where Elena’s aunt went when Ester told Elena her aunt didn’t get trapped on the other side and instead found peace immediately after her death. Another person who was never put on the other side despite being supernatural is Tyler’s dad. He had the gene which made him supernatural regardless of the fact that he never triggered the curse but again he found peace right away like Jenna. That’s the best way I can separate the other side and what “peace” is to everyone now.

2019-08-07 16:38:04 +0000 UTCThe twins are 13 in this episode and Hope is 15. The twins were born a year and half after Hope. In Legacies, Hope is 17 and the twins very quickly turn 16. The concept of "peace" was established at the end of TVD when Hell was destroyed. The creator said after the TVD finale that it was whatever you interpreted it to be. Whether it was an actual place or state of mind or whatever your mind can come up with. So Hayley, Josh, Aiden, Stefan and "after a long and happy life together", Damon and Elena, are all at "peace". You can call that "heaven", the "afterlife" or whatever fits your beliefs.
