2020-05-14 22:40:56 +0000 UTCI don't hate Merlin but I disagree with his method, I think he should have tried a different approach to stopping Arthur, through reason or magic or anything else. I get that this was a "battle for Arthur's soul" but he wasn't actually saved, he was deceived. He will now willingly support his father in the deaths of many innocents because he has now being deceived into beleiving all magic is corrupted. Just picture one more innocent person being killed under Uther's oppressive rule and then Arthur finding out the Morgause wasn't actually lying, woulnd HE be upset with Merlin? wouldn't Arthur have that death on his conciensce? If Arthur had taken Uther's life that would have been awful but it would still have been a choice made out of his own free will, based on finally being aware of all facts. His deception takes his free will away because he is not able to make a well informed choice. And also, he may be our hero and our central character but is Arthur's soul is more valuable than the lives of many who will die under the hatred of magic?

(I'm always shy about commenting though) I've been looking forward to you getting to 2x08 and I was crying with you... Not sure why people are hating on Merlin here, I guess because he convinced Arthur it was a lie? He was trying to save his friend from the guilt of having killed his own father, its a messed up choice, yes, but he was trying to do what was best for Arthur... Even if the consequences were destroyed the new outlook Arthur had on magic... This show just gets better and better and more complex as it grows!

2019-08-17 22:48:41 +0000 UTCAgreed. I don't understand why people are hating Merlin now? He saved Arthur from the pain of killing his own father out of rage despite Uther's sins. He cares about Arthur far more than he hates Uther for all he's done against those like him with magic. And he's a lovable goofball, who's clumsy and awkward. It's adorable. I love Merlin. :)

It's so beautiful and emotional. And I deeply love seeing this side of Arthur. My heart breaks for him every time I have watched this episode and I can't help but cry. So beautifully acted by Bradley James. It's his best performance in this show for certain. Thank you so much!!
