You forget that a vampire can drink the cure from whoever took it and become human as well. Granted whoever the vampire drank the cure from will start rapidly aging to accomendate for the years that person stayed immortal, but elena has only been a vampire for a few years. Its Damon who has to worry about the cure getting sucked out of HIM because he's been a vampire for over a century and a half. Also they cant get the cure from the 1903 prison world without running the risk of Kai and the heretics escaping
