The original Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze, actually DID make a deal with Mephisto (one incarnation of The Devil) and Mephisto turned him into the Ghost Rider by binding his soul with the demon Zarathos, wanting him to do his bidding. Basically, to be his personal enforcer. But, the Ghost Rider (and Johnny) rebelled against doing his bidding. They both hate Mephisto each for their own reasons. That's one reason I loved this character since I was a kid 'cause the Devil tried to pull this, "I MADE YOU" crap on him and Ghost Rider was basically like "Yeah, well, I guess you f'd up, huh?"

2018-08-29 05:19:54 +0000 UTCOne thing I heard on Emergency Awesome, when this was aired, was he said The Darkhold is from the comics, mostly Dr. Strange comics. Something they don't say on AoS, but is revealed in the comics is The Darkhold was written by a chaos demon, so it's whole point is to sow chaos, even if you read it with good intentions. I think of it like those old stories of the djinn and how you never make wishes from them 'cause they are looking to do you harm and will grant your wish, but in the worst way possible.

I didn't remember this when watching the Cloak & Dagger series that it deals with the same concept. I didn't know anything about those characters from the comics.

One being the bullet hole in the skull where Johnny was shot in the comics. The lines on Robbie's skull were shown on his skull mask/helmet he wore in the comics, but here signify the cracks in his skull from the crash, the showrunners said.

Eli wanted the book so he could become a god which lead to Robbie becoming ghost rider. Fun fact the Good Samaritan identity is not mentioned but fans choose to believe that he is Johnny Blaze the first ghost rider.
