One thing I noticed about Mr. Robot that makes it stand out, directorally, is there are a LOT of shots that are off-center. Most scenes, especially with one person focused on or talking, they are not center frame. They're off to the side, from below or above, making it off-kilter or slightly uncomfortable. I think Shayla and Elliot sound terrible on paper. An addict and drug dealer/user in a relationship. But, they actually seemed good for each other. They both seemed to be improving the other's lives and they were only together for a short time. It made it even more sad, to me.
