I liked the ending of this show, because it asks the question of how do these types of programs affect the subjects and those around them. They immortalize particular moments in people's lives and turn them into characters in a story to give a dramatic arc. And as much as a filmmaker may try to show many sides, their reputations and personas in public will always be to some degree two dimensional. Because, except for every documentary or podcast that actually brings real evidence to light and solves a case, there are how many more that never uncover anything concrete and leave viewers with opinions about who committed a crime? How many people think Jon Benet Ramsey's brother killed her when he was a child? How many people think that the step dad of Chris Byers killed the little boys in West Memphis? Were the three teenagers in that case guilty and let free or did they suffer 18 years on injustice in prison? Whether these people are guilty or innocent in reality, they are guilty or innocent in the minds of thousands or millions because of documentarians. We can never know. And I think by leaving this show open ended and having Peter be up front about his own doubts as to the effects of his film this show does its job as satire quite well.
